WELCOME JOE HADEN

The Browns Board

  • The best pick the Browns could have made. They filled their biggest need with the best player available. Can't beat that.

    exactly. i'm can't wait till 6 pm.

  • Well it isn't an exciting pick but hey, if we end up with a pro bowl corner, great.

    Glad to have him.

    WSS

  • Much like the Alex Mack pick last year, it isn't the jump out of your seat kind of pick BUT is one which greatly will improve our team. Just think about it, now you have Wright and Haden and Brown in the secondary. (with McDonald coming off the bench as he always should've been)

We are a better team and added a position of need and a kid who i think is the BEST at that position. I'll take it 100%.

What will round 2 land us? I'm torn tweenst trying to land Colt and perhaps grabbing a safety.

  • No wonder we always suck.....our fans suck.

This is a great pick. They are loaded at arguably the most important position on D.

    Lighten up Francis.......

Hey! That is one of my favorite lines. Good usage.

  • Bad pick. Nobody will know who this guy is in 2 years. Browns screw up another 1st round pick. Unreal. Take the best talent there.... CJ Spiller. Kid is going to be dynamite. Browns lose out.

So Sad to watch this happen year after year

Could not disagree more. First, Haden is smart, very talented, and very physical. He's a great pick. And Spiller was a bad pick even for Bufallo. He will be part of a two back system and in cold weather Divisions like the AFC North and East, he's not the best pick at 7. We have Harrison (for now) and what we need in Cleveland are bigger, physical backs. Plus we have Hillis and Davis who can also catch out of the backfield. Spiller is really good no doubt, but not for this team. Especially when Haden is there to be had.

  • This is the player i wanted. If we can land Colt McCoy in round 2, this will be an outstanding draft.

Why not go ahead and get that safety if Taylor Mays is available?

I still think we need a safety and a DL over a QB. (though, with 3 picks in the second round, we may pick up all three positions: QB, S, and DL)

Good point. It is like the difference between caviar and meat and potatos. It might seem sexy to have caviar, but getting the meat and potatos (read: Mack and Haden), is what fills your belly and makes you happy.

  • If you think about it most of us would have been disappointed with Thomas a month ago. So what changed in a month?

Grossi talked about two things happenning that made people think Haden was off the board:

    1. Ran slow at the combine

    2. Traded for Sheldon Brown

I saw one draft site critisizing the pick saying that we should've gone Clausen, Thomas, or Spiller; but he has Haden rated ahead of all three of those players on his big board!

  • it doesnt matter....the browns are a media bulls-eye no matter what we do.

So is every other NFL team during this draft process. Right now, Denver probably has the biggest bullseye on its back because of their moves. Far bigger than the Browns.

20\20 hindsight says If we had gone for the sexy pick a few years back and taken Quinn first, we'd be watching Joe Thomas go to all those Pro Bowls for another team. The NFL is a pass happy league, and someone said you can't have enough good cornerbacks.

Not the sexy pick, but Wright will look infinitely better as the #2 corner. Dixon and Minnifield were the conerstones for the the Dawgs, and I certainly hope Hayden and Wright can duplicate the feat. BTW, just look at the Bungles and how much better their D is playing with two decent cornerbacks.

Speaking of the Stripers, the TE they took in the first round is a beast- the film clips were mighty impressive.

  • Maybe not sexy, but I f'n love this pick!

True...but id prefer they hate our draft...media always gives a GREAT grade..and it turns into sheit.

lets reverse this trend..tell us how much it sucks!

All i know is Hayden and Wright with SHeldon B slamming people reggie bush style as a safety makes me smile a bit...abe elam is solid..but if they can snag taylor mays and trade back into rd 2 and get mccoy...im down!!!

and if they dont get mccoy..who cares grab a 3rd or 4th round project QB...pike..lefevor..etc..

Taylor Mayes in rd 2 brings ELITE SPEED to the secondary.

  • Anybody watch the press conference on ClevelandBrowns.com with Joe Haden? I like the pick even more now, sounds like a great kid. Holmgren and Heckert introduced him then left and left him all by himself to the media, he has a good presence about him and speaks very well. Cant wait to see him in a Browns uniform

He was great. I liked when someone asked if NFL players should be held to a higher standard. He answered that very well. You can definitely see why the Browns were attracted to him.

I had no idea he went to Florida to be a QB and then a WR. He has only played corner for three years and still has a very high ceiling.

He also said he was talking to Berry before the draft and said "I hope you go early so I can go #7". He looked genuinely happy to be in Cleveland and is also a huge LeBron fan.

  • Abe Elam becomes a better safety with this pick.

  • I like this pick. I also wanted to trade down to get Thomas, But i think its one of them things that no one wanted to trade up into the top 10 unless it was a top 3 pick. So we got the best defensive player on our board. I cant wait to see him shut down some pass games in the feature.

  • ESPN talked about how Haden ran at the combine with a injury. That's why his combine time was so slow.
