The only addition the Browns have made to a pretty poor Receiving core is yesterdays 6th Round pick Carlton Mitchell from South Florida.

Tony Grossi reports that the Browns 2009 leading receivers (Jerome Harrison & Mohamed Massaquoi) had 34 catches. That's the lowest total to lead the Browns since the NFL went to a 16-game schedule in 1978. Even the 1999 expansion Browns had three players with 44 or more catches.

Grossi & Mary Kay Cabot both seemed to emphasis Josh Cribbs playing a bigger role with the receiving corp, perhaps this stems from Holmgrems/Mangini's/Heckerts Press Conference? (I didn't hear it all, I don' know), but the fact hat they are both now singing this same tune about Cribbs must mean they heard it from the source somewhere.

In my opinion, Josh Cribbs is not a receiver to penciled in here. He is a package guy that can be tossed in to create mis-matches at times, but we are joking if this is all we got to bolster up a very weak 2009 unit after the departure of Braylon Edwards.

Only name being thrown around in the veteran department is Mangini's ex-Jet (and Bengal in 09) Lavranues Coles, who got paid HUGE last year in Cincy.

This is of Major concern and is today's biggest need by far.

I don't know much about Carlton Mitchell, but in this picture he looks like he can drop the football as good as anyone we have.

I don't know Stan. I think we have some decent receivers.....no doubt no all-pros, but I can't help but think the qb play had some impact on the receiver play last year.

I wouldn't be surprised if MoMass caught 60 balls this year....won't guess at TD catches.

I also can't help but think Robiskie isn't the total stiff he looked like last year. You follow OSU....while I know Robiskie was never the top receiver prospect to come out of OSU, he wasn't crapola was he??

Also, when the time is right, I could see us signing another vet.

I think we could only do so much this year and the thinking was what we have will be good enough...expecting a few of them continue to develop.

Next year could be a prime year for a 1st or 2nd round receiver.

I am hoping to see Freddie Barnes as one of those UFA's that we sign. You dont break records in college and not have any skills. Go get him Cleveland!

I like our group of young guys we have (Massaquoi, Robiskie, Stuckey, Mitchell, Cribbs). By stockpiling guys who profile as #2 or #3 wideouts just like the Giants and Eagles have done we are using a good strategy IMO. We are a difference making, true #1 WR away from having a good unit there. Adding a guy like AJ Green, Julio Jones, Michael Floyd, or Jonathan Baldwin next year in the first round, or adding a stud veteran #1 like Miami did this year with Marshall or the Jets did with Holmes could solve our problem there.

We may be stronger at WR than many believe because we were weak at QB however i would still feel better if we acquired at least one real true scorcher, all we really lack is speed and experience..

    I believe Chicago signed him.

Makes sense since he's from around the area, he likely grew up a Bears fan.

Gips, I think you're possibly correct. I would like to see what our WR's do with better QB play. To be fair, it's not as if they were never open last year.

The lack of experience is exactly why I'm pleased we didn't go after a receiver early in the Draft. Sign a veteran & be patient. The QBs we had last year didn't help the young receivers we have.
