  • Pacman to sign with the Bengals

Posted by Mike Florio on May 4, 2010 3:27 PM ET

A league source tells us that cornerback Pacman Jones will be signing with the Bengals.

The move comes a day after his second workout with the team since the end of the 2009 season.

Jones hasn't played since 2008, and he missed several games that season after getting into a scuffle with his full-time bodyguard.

In March, Pacman's camp was at one point putting out the word that he would be signing with the Lions. The Lions, though interested, never made a serious play for him. Possibly in part because Pacman's camp put out the word prematurely that he'd be signing with the Lions

And ex-Brown Gerard Warred is a Patriot

Seymour helped push Gerard Warren to New England

Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on May 4, 2010 2:48 PM ET

Raiders defensive end Richard Seymour once said he would consider playing for 31 teams, the Patriots excluded. But he doesn't mind recommending his old team to teammates.

Tom Curran of Comast Sports New England writes that Gerard Warren is partly a Patriot because of Seymour's words.

Seymour told Warren about the atmospehere: "It's all business. Come in. Play winning football. Have fun. Family environment. When you walk in through the doors, it's all business. Very appealing," Warren said.

Warren was drafted by a dysfunctional franchise in Cleveland, but it almost didn't happen that way. Warren was convinced the Patriots were set to take him No. 6 overall in the 2001 draft, but Cleveland snapped him up first.

The Patriots, of course, wound up with Seymour. And this whole little story gives an excuse to bring out one of our favorite old post-draft quotes, this one courtesy of Ron Borges, but typical of how much the day-after analysis often misses:

"On a day when they could have had impact players David Terrell or Koren Robinson or the second-best tackle in the draft in Kenyatta Walker, they took Georgia defensive tackle Richard Seymour, who had 1 sacks last season in the pass-happy SEC and is too tall to play tackle at 6-6 and too slow to play defensive end," Borges wrote.

"This genius move was followed by trading out of a spot where they could have gotten the last decent receiver in Robert Ferguson and settled for tackle Matt Light, who will not help any time soon."

And the Broncos will "Never trade Quinn"

Broncos will "never" trade Brady Quinn

Posted by Mike Florio on May 4, 2010 3:57 PM ET

Earlier today, a report emerged that the Jaguars are interested in taking Brady Quinn off the Broncos' hands. For the record, the Broncos told Josina Anderson of FOX 31 in Denver that the team has "no interest" in moving Quinn.

Privately, we're hearing the same thing, in even stronger terms. Specifically, the Broncos say they'll "never" trade Quinn.

And why should they? At $700,000 per year over the next two years, Quinn is a very affordable option at backup quarterback. His contract spikes in 2011 only if he takes 70 percent of the snaps in 2010.

That fact could make Quinn inclined to play for a team where he has a chance to trigger the escalator. But, frankly, he has no say in the matter.

  • there hasn't been any buzz on the street here about trading BQ either. he's a fit in Denver imo, and McDaniels gave up enough to give the impression he actively pursued Quinn. i'll enjoy watching him attempt to unseat the incumbent Neckbeard this summer.

  • Hey Bengals!!!! HAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAA!!!!!!

Tim Tebow is the most successful QB in collegiate history and Denver just put together a trade to grab him in the first round.

Why in the HELL would you continue to fantasize about Quinn unseating anybody?? He has won three football games and carries a QB rating of 66.8.

What the xxxx is wrong with you?

Before we did anything to address the QB situation in Cleveland by signing Delhomme and trading for Wallace I really would have loved to see us go after Orton. I think he would he fit really well into what we are trying to do with a run first offense and he was a RFA. Obviously I wouldn't have given up the first rounder in which it would have cost to just sign him, but I would have liked to see them maybe try and make some sort of offer for him. Who knows maybe a third and Quinn would have got that deal done and being that he young and about to hit his prime I would have jumped at it. I would have probably even sweetened the deal with a late pick this year and/or next year. And I would still made the Wallace deal and picked McCy like we did.

Hey Z, this thread is about the Bengals Halfway House for character risks. I hear they've got a roster spot reserved for Maurice Clarett, as soon as he gets out of jail 🙂

Maybe because none of those guys inspire anyone...at least not me...to believe that they are all that and a bag of chips or that they are really any better than Quinn...bottom line.

Nevertheless, I will agree with this concept: Who cares who is the QB of the Denver Broncos...as long as that person sucks and they lose it don't really matter which one it is.

  • Pacman a Bengal? "Who dey, who dey!" Who dey gunna arrest next?

I think the reason Bengals fans say "Who dey" is because many of them are missing their front teeth. It's hard to pronounce a TH sound without front teeth.

inspiration my ass...Orton's numbers speak for him; while I can't defend Tebow because he has no track record in the NFL, however BQ does, and Orton may not inspire you, but as the old saying goes "just the facts ma'am" and the fact is the sexy inspirational guy that Orton replaced has no team to lead, and Orton proved he was better by delivering on the field. I've got the newest sports illustrated swimsuit issue, and those ladies inspire me, but it doesn't mean they're going to win football games. Point is Orton is a hell of a lot better than Quinn...he proved it. Take Quinn's best statistical game, and Orton crushed it every time he started last season.

  • I can just hear the phone ringing off the wall at the pole dancers union office . they are looking for more dancers wanting to dance in the rain . 😆

  • I believe I've learned one thing from this thread, and that's if Brady Quinn would commit a crime that he may have a team to sign with after Denver throws him out on his ass.

Well, figure that if the Broncos were so sold on Orton, then why would they trade for Quinn and trade up to get Tebow in the first round? Orton hasn't been in the league for 5 years, yet the Broncos take action seemingly sure to replace him? Apparently they are not inspired by him.

    Just the facts, ma'am.

  • wow, we've managed to turn a non qb thread into another qb discussion thread. the first part of recovery is admitting that you have a problem. some of you need to own up to your relapses and get help.

on another note... i used to think that the bengals were just unfortunate with the people that they had on their team. i felt bad for them that they kept on getting guys that were morons. now i see that they bring it on themselves. i thought that marvin lewis was classier than this and that he deserved better. he and mike brown deserve what they get... which is tons of jokes directed at them for starting that penitentiary call a team.

re:Quinn unseating someone, how does one continue to fantasize about something that never happened to begin with? not sure if you've made an association between an avatar and some strange blind love for BQ but this

certainly doesn't qualify as crowning him.

you must have forgotten that i was pimping DA and smacking Quinn around the board when you still thought it was cool to post his college youtube vids--we can go back and look it up if you want. before horse balls, before it was chic. i specifically remember pointing out his constant hail mary's and wide open receivers in the videos you posted in a thread you started.

as far as Quinn, i'm a Browns fan living in Denver, what do you expect? i never said he was gonna start i just said i will enjoy the battle. just something to follow this offseason considering i will have local news access and a front seat view. if i didn't live in Denver i probably couldn't care less though.

i'm not trying to defend Quinn and i certainly agree that DEN Orton>CLE Quinn for sure. but DEN Orton>CHI Orton. DEN Quinn hasn't played a snap yet and McDaniels apparently sees something in him to give up a pick and a decent player. the system can make a difference.

why would McDaniels give up on developing him right after acquiring him? especially after giving things up to get him. why even get him in the first place? unless McDaniels gets fired i doubt Quinn goes anywhere.
