Jake Delhomme has help?

  • I think Jake will rebound this year back to the form that he had a few years ago...

The one thing that sticks in my mind about Jakes 2009 season is the common denominator that he has with the poor performance of the Browns QB's..

That common denominator is Rip Sheerer.... He was Jakes QB coach last year and he also mentored Quinn and Anderson in 2008...

Last year was Jakes worst since he's been in the NFL.... When Rip was here we had to keep Dorsey on the roster to mentor Quinn...

    Just a thought

    Peace

Don't bash Scherer. He made Anderson what he is. He molded him into the QB that was so present in 2007. Stop blaming Scherer. I know him thru a friend. It hurts me deeply.

  • Why wasn't James Davis mentioned among the RBs in the OP? There's a ton of depth at RB for the first time since the Browns' return. I just hope the O-line can stay healthy OR we can add some depth there in the months to come. If so, we should be able to give Delhomme some breathing room.

  • I dont know why he didnt mention an already pretty good OL - Improved... That will help his success out too.

  • Jake Delhomme Won't Be Going It Alone in Cleveland Browns Offense

The Cleveland Browns offense was just plain offensive last year, finishing dead last in the league.

There now has almost been a complete turnover on the offensive unit, and therefore it becomes harder to predict what you're going to see on the field in 2010.

The only quarterback still on the roster from 2009 is third-stringer Brett Ratliff, and he now has competition from third-round draft pick Colt McCoy and free agent Graham Harrell.

Wide receivers Mohamed Massaquoi, Brian Robiskie, and Chansi Stuckey are there from last year, along with Syndric Steptoe, Jake Allen, and sixth-round draft pick Carlton Mitchell, among a few others.

The running backs are second-round draft pick Montario Hardesty, Peyton Hillis, and Chris Jennings at the moment as Jerome Harrison and Lawrence Vickers have yet to sign their contracts.

The tight ends have received a significant upgrade with the addition of Ben Watson and Alex Smith. Greg Estandia, Evan Moore, and Robert Royal round out the roster at the moment.

Jake Delhomme will be leading the unit, unless he's injured or is outplayed so badly in preseason as to force a different decision.

Delhomme has a career QB rating of 82.1, which could be understated because of how bad his 2009 season was.

Delhomme, if he plays a full season under team president Mike Holmgren's West Coast offense, should throw for around 3,000 yards and around 25-30 touchdowns.

With the focus and success the Browns had with the running game at the end of last season, the bonus for Delhomme is the burden won't be all on him to score. The Browns should be able to establish a good running game in 2010.

There's this big wild-card at the coaching position, though, in offensive coordinator Brian Daboll. A rookie coordinator last year, he showed some improvement as the season ended, but the numbers speak for themselves.

Holmgren allowed head coach Eric Mangini to keep his staff intact, so Daboll's success or failure at developing into a good coordinator will be linked to Mangini's as a head coach.

It gets nasty in Cleveland in the winter, but Mangini proved last year he can win without passing. Don't expect the Browns offense to be ranked last in 2010.

25-30 TDs is definitly not happening. Jake exceeded 25 TDs once in his career and it was his "career" year as a pro. As much as I would love to see it happen that is very unrealistic. I wouldn't even be suprised if this offense as a whole doesn't score 25-30 TDs. The O scares me this year (and pretty much every year) we have pretty much nothing but a above average to very good O line to look forward to. We have some potential in other places but we need to see them do something before I get excited over them.

Personally I am more excited about the D and I hope I am wrong about the O.

  • DONT BLAME SHERER (OR HOWEVER YOU SPELL HIS NAME)... SORRY, IT IS WHAT IT IS....

SORRY I HURT YOU SO DEEPLY??? IF RIP WAS SO SPECIAL THEN WHY DID WE HAVE A ROSTER SPOT FOR DORSEY SO HE COULD MENTOR QUINN??

TRUTH OF THE MATTER IS, HE WAS THE QB COACH OF JAKES LAST YEAR AND JAKE HAD HIS WORST SEASON IN THE NFL.... RIP WAS ALSO THE QB COACH THROUGH MOST OF THE FIASCO WITH QUINN AND ANDERSON....

IF HE WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR DA'S RISE TO PROMINANCE THEN HE MUST ALSO TAKE THE BLAME FOR HIS DOWNFALL (AFTER A MERE 7 GAMES)...

THATS MY STORY AND I'M STICKIN' TO IT.............

    Sounds fair to me.

  • All put together, Mohamed Massaquoi, Brian Robiskie, Chansi Stuckey, Syndric Steptoe, Jake Allen, and sixth-round draft pick Carlton Mitchell do not = 1 Steve Smith.

I believe this is an actual scientific equation! 😆

Those guys though, aren't total crap either. Unproven to a large degree....but there are two high picks at WR waiting to take that next step. Will it happen or will we be bellyaching? I vote on the young guys getting to done!

  • Someone will have to step up, plain and simple, on offense.

I'd expect next year's draft/FA will be to chase after a playmaking WR.

personally i'd rather have options than a telegraphed offense and double coverage to steve smith accounted for a lot of Jake's int's last year too.

one dimensional teams don't win games in today's NFL regardless of how pimp one player is.

and Rip Sherer screws with guys mechanics until they barely have a career anymore. might as well accept it dp3, he's a QB plague.
