Football Factoids
-
Just some items of interest for you that I have discovered while doing some browsing:
A. There is supposedly going to be a ReLaunching of a new USFL spring football league beginning next year. They are even talking about resurrecting some of the same team names in the same towns like The San Antonio Gunslingers, the Orlando Renegades, the Arizona Wranglers (though they may be in Tuscon instead of Phoenix), The Birmingham Stallions, etc.
(perhaps they could form a new Canton Bulldogs and play in Fawcett, or Akron Pros and play in the new AU stadium)
B. Another AAFC team besides the Browns and the 49ers apparently lives on. When the AAFC joined the NFL, the Los Angeles Dons and the Los Angeles Rams merged. Thus, the current Rams are as much a descendent of the Dons as they are of the Rams.
C. The cities in which the most Pro Football Hall of Famers were born are as follows: Chicago: 11, New York: 7, Pittsburgh: 6, Cleveland: 5, Los Angeles: 4, Houston: 4, St. Louis, San Fran, and Philly 3 each.
No person who has been inducted into the PFHOF has ever been born in the following NFL cities: Oakland, San Diego, Miami, Tampa, Atlanta, Denver, New Orleans, Kansas City, Indy, Boston, Buffalo, Seattle, Phoenix, Baltimore, or Charlotte.
The state with the most HOFers born there is Texas.
D. The Carolina Panthers played their first season in Clemson, South Carolina, not in Charlotte
E. Sammy Baugh was the first Quarterback ever selected in the history of the NFL draft.
F. Bernie Kosar had a career losing record as a starting Quarterback in the NFL. As a starter his team went 53-54-1.
With the Browns his record was 53-51-1, but he lost his only other 3 starts, 1 with the Cowboys, 2 with the Dolphins.
Compare: Brian Sipe's record as a starting NFL QB was 57-55. (Don't know about USFL numbers)
Contrast: Otto Graham's record as a starting QB was 104-17-4. NFL years only was 57-13-1
G. The longest pass in Super Bowl history was thrown by who?: Jake Delhomme 85 yards
H. Since WWII 4 NFL teams went through a season winless: 1960 Cowboys (0-11-1), 1976 Bucs (0-14), 1982 Colts (0-8-1, strike shortened year), 2008 Lions (0-16)
I. The design on the Steelers helmet is called an "Astroid".
J. Former Miami Hurricane/Cowboys/Dolphins HC Jimmy Johnson is slated to be a contestant on the next "Survivor". I understand that the one personal item that contestants are allowed that was chosen by Jimmy was a case of hair spray.
K. The preseason college rankings are out with the following rankings:
1. Alabama
2. Ohio St.
3. Florida
4. Texas
5. Boise St.
6. Va. Tech
7. TCU
8. Oklahoma
9. Nebraska
10. Iowa
L. Have a great weekend. Go Browns

I know you're just kidding T
Some of those cities I can't comment on, but the only ones I would agree with you are the Florida cities. My father in law used to live in Tampa- and the water coming out of the tap there is virtually undrinkable. It reeks of sulfur so bad, you about have to hold your nose to swallow it.
OTOH, on my Bucket list grand plan to see the Browns play in every NFL city- I will say the water in Kansas City, Indianapolis (my brother in law lives there), and Charlotte is quite safe. KC is Cleveland West- they've taken tailgating to an art form, Arrowhead is a GREAT place to see a game, and if you like good steaks the Hereford House and Golden Ox are not to be missed. Downtown Charlotte was a blast- all the bars and restaurants you'd ever need- even met up with Rich4Eagle before the game- plenty of nice and relatively inexpensive hotels within walking distance of the stadium.

It's about mandatory you have a water softener installed.

I am somewhat surprised that no one has expressed surprise about Bernie Kosar's overall NFL losing record. That was a significant surprise to me when I found that. I guess we forget that in his last several years here he had a really bad football team around him.
And this is not surprising considering they were drafting players like Mike "Mad Dog in a Meat Market" Junkin and Clifford Charlton in the 1987 and 1988 first rounds. Who was making those picks anyway, Mike Lombardi?
