Ref Admits Steelers Got Gift Super Bowl

Next election Gallop should just poll Cleveland because it's CLEAR the opinion of the Cleveland Browns fan base is representative of the entire United States. Why waste your time with the other 49.
All in all, that is not a bad idea, except you would probably have as much difference of opinion in that polling sample as you do amongst the other 300 some million Americans.

Steelers Shrug Off Bill Leavy's Super Bowl Mea Culpa
LATROBE, Pa. -- NFL referee Bill Leavy may have come clean about mistakes he and his crew made during the Super Bowl four years ago, but it doesn't change the outcome and it certainly doesn't change the way the Pittsburgh Steelers feel about their victory over the Seahawks in that game.
"I'm not giving my ring back," Steelers wide receiver Hines Ward said Monday between practices at Steelers training camp. "You can' t change history. You can't go back in the record book just because a referee made some bad calls. I'm sorry that he said it, but there's nothing we can do. We can't turn back time."
Working practice at Seahawks camp last week, Leavy told the Seattle media that he regretted some calls that were made in that game and felt bad that they impacted the outcome.
"I'll go to my grave wishing that I'd been better," Leavy told reporters. "I know that I did my best at that time, but it wasn't good enough."
Seahawks players took the comments in stride, and Steelers players who were on that championship-winning team were asked about Leavy's admission Monday.
"If he really feels that way and it's really bothering him, then I genuinely feel bad for him," Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger said. "He's an official and I have nothing bad to say about him. I thought he called a great game."
Ward didn't necessarily agree with that. He just took the stance that there's nothing anybody can do about officiating calls, and there's no point in dwelling on them.
"He made some bad calls both ways," Ward said. "You just have to overcome. We never make excuses for referees making bad calls. We move on."
No surprise that the Steelers, who won their fifth Super Bowl that year and their sixth three years later, can take that stance. It must still be a little bit harder to swallow for the Seahawks, for whom that was the only Super Bowl appearance in team history. But here at Steelers camp, there wasn't a lot anybody could do about it but shrug and smile.

From a Cardinals fan point of view
Now those are sour grapes. Seattle fans have a beef, Arizona fans do not. All of those plays were borderline at best. If that is the best evidence that a Cardinal fan can come up with then they really don't have a leg to stand on.

I have to go with the Cardinals fan on this one. Those are all penalties that were not called. However there are penalties on many plays during a game that aren't called. On the run back I think the problem was that as the play continued downfield the refs kept getting in a worse position to make the correct calls. For example I cannot see how they could have seen Warner being held. But yes I do believe that the pizza delivery guy should keep delivering pizzas and not attempt to become a future NFL referee.

Impact of the error? The Seahawks would have lost by less points.

And how many calls weren't made in the Steelers favor. It goes both ways and to think it doesn't is truly delusional. James Harrison was held on the regular all of last season and held plenty during that game. Penalties happen and plays that should be penalties happen. You can't expect the refs to catch everything and they are payed to be as objective as possible. Games are won and lost on the field BY THE TEAMS. I could go back and argue Tomlin's first season when 3 of our LB's were being held and David Garrard scrambled up the middle of the field in to field goal range. If the holds had been called Pittsburgh likely would have won the game. However there were plenty of plays before hand left on the field where Pittsburgh could have and should have capitalized. The Steelers just didn't play well enough and neither did the Seahawks in XL or the Cards.
It's all a bunch of cry baby BS.

It sucks to be a realist and try to argue with homers from either side. I'm done because no matter what, you are not going to change anyone's mind. Homers are always going to mangle what they see to fit their agenda.

I'm also a realist but everyone from their respective fan base is some sort of homer. A realist for example would know the Steelers aren't going to fall on their face this season. However you are correct everyone has their owned agenda some are just more skewed and clouded than others. It's pretty much a constant overcast on this message board.

No matter what anyone says, The Hawks were screwed by arguably the worst officiated Super Bowl in history. You CANT F!CKING DENY THAT JESUS CHRIST!!!!!!!!!!!So justify it either way you want, its not going to change anything. The Hawks COULD HAVE been super bowl champs... This guy lets it keep him up at night still TO THIS DAY.... If his calls were only minor mistakes Im sure that level of guilt and sorrow would be something he would be going through.
Next, who cares?
Steelers fans know how big of a screw job it was, that's why they're so defensive.
Theres nothing more that we can do, we all know the truth... There's just different perspectives and then there's the Pittspukers homers that will refuse to see any wrongdoing and the Browns Backers that will cry foul and blame Rooney and his league associations for it.
The truth is: This game was a close contest of very high calibur teams that ended with questions because of the negative calls that "directly impacted" the final outcome.
Now lets talk 2010 and how the Brownies are going to bring it to AFCN like never before since our return to the league....
WOOF WOOF!
The Seahawks likely still would have lost. Please attempt to prove otherwise. We all know the truth? What's the truth that the calls impacted the game but did not decide the game? That's the truth. The Seahawks lost by more than a touchdown, they lost by 11 points which is a TD with a two point conversion and a field goal. The Calls did not take 11 points from the Seattle Seahawks, period. Let's say the Seahawks score once and simply put up 7, the Steelers get the ball back and don't go in to clock kill mode.

This is an recent article from FoxSports. Here is the link: http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/ref-tak...stakes-too-hard
The recent remarks by referee Bill Leavy admitting to the Seattle Seahawks that he made two bad calls during their Super Bowl XL loss have rekindled the strong emotions of so many: those who are Seattle Seahawks fans, those who don't like the Pittsburgh Steelers, and even many Steelers fans and Steelers players who are insulted that Leavy's calls may have tainted their Super Bowl victory.
I have to admit that I was bit surprised when I read that Leavy addressed the calls with the media. Surprised, but not shocked.
Bill is one of the best referees we have in the NFL. He is a great communicator with players and coaches and has always been very accurate in his decision making. Ask most all of the coaches in the league and they will tell you they respect him. Even Mike Holmgren liked him before Super Bowl XL.
Like the other referees in the NFL, Leavy hates it when he makes a mistake and to make one in the Super Bowl makes it worse. It has been eating at him for four years. He wasn't kidding when he said he lost sleep and was miserable. We had many conversations about this. You live with that negative feeling as an official and it is hard to shake. Last week in Seattle, he found an opportunity to get it off his chest and admit that he had made mistakes. In my opinion, he was too hard on himself.
First, he didn't "kick" two calls in the fourth quarter. He was clearly incorrect when he called Matt Hasselbeck for a low block after the interception when Hasselbeck attempted to go low through a blocker in an attempt to make the tackle. It would only have been a foul if Matt would have made contact with the blocker, but he didn't, so it should not have been called.
Leavy piled on himself by saying that his holding call on Sean Locklear was incorrect. That is not true. It was a hold and should have been called. If anything, you could have made a case that the Steelers were offside and, if the play had been officiated correctly, the penalties would have offset and the down replayed. In any case, the reception would not have been allowed to stand.
Did Leavy's calls and the officiating, in general, have an impact in that game? Sure they did. Officiating has an impact in every game that is played, whether calls are made or not made, whether they are correct or incorrect.
Did Leavy's calls determine the winner of Super Bowl XL? Absolutely not! In truth, there were missed calls that went against both teams. Let's all put aside our allegiances and go back four years and look at the game objectively. If we do, we will see that the Seahawks did not play well and neither, actually, did the Steelers.
The officials also did not have a great game. In the end, however, the team that deserved to win won. That, in my opinion, is the bottom line.
This is from the head of NFL officials at the time of the game.

Well I can throw out a "do the math" for the time being. Is it really out of the realm of possibility a group corrupt enough to pay dirty MD's six figure incomes to administer drugs to their players isn't also corrupt enough that they would also buy off some officials and league execs? Call me crazy all you'd like, but they've been caught cheating the system before, former players have admitted their prior dynasties were HGH fueled shams and the Rooney Family would do anything to win.I'd also say follow the trail of coincidence as well. From the top down. Starting with close Rooney associate and lifelong Stoolers fan.... Roger Goodell. Pure coincidence a Rooney man is pushed for the GM opening? Maybe.
Same Roger Goodell that refused to suspend James HGHarrison for Steroid use, domestic violence or owning a rabid pittbull that attacked his children. Coincidence?
Same Roger Goodell who took no action after the Rooneys 'Roid Doctor was caught distributing controlled substances banned by the NFL to the Stoolers roster. Coincidence?
Same Roger Goodell who went out of his way to levy the stiffest suspensions in the NFL against the Stoolers division rivals, dismantling that teams roster. Coincidence?
Same Roger Goodell refused allowing suspended Bengals players to train with the team until their suspensions were up, yet Big Jen Rapistburger is cleared to practice with the Stools during his light suspension. Coincidence?
Down the line....
The non-TD catch against Baltimore that handed the Stoolers the game as well as the AFC North and home field throughout the playoffs....
Consistent questionable calls in Pittsburghs games included but not limited to spotting the ball 1+ yards on 3rd downs to hand them first downs, phantom penalties, officials allowing dirty hits on players, holding ect.... Pitt being given interceptions that touched the ground... All coincidence?
Is it a coincidence that any other team has a player throw a dirty hit that team is fined 15 yards and the player is fined yet whenever Whines Hard or others do the same it's ignored until AFTER the games? Coincidence?
Or how about the last Superbowl "win", with AZ being called for multiple phantom penalties or any little mess up while the Stoolers accidentally got away with virtually anything until the 4th quarter and/or whenever it didn't matter if the penalties was called as it didn't impact the Stoolers any.....
Just saying. If it were a one time thing I would likely agree with you. However when there is a track record of "bad officiating" and the NFL front office cutting his buddy Art Rooney numerous breaks it says that it is probably something more then that. Referees don't just suddenly have a bad day every time the Stools need a break. When it's happening time after time after time after time SOMETHING is going on with it.
Since the game is so fixed and your team has no chance of winning why not do us all a favor and stop watching. Only a fool would continue to put money down when they know the game is fixed. Right?

I read that post and didn't want to take the time to do what you just did. How can you make a post that long chuck full of completely fabricated statements? It would be one thing to write a paragraph or two and be off on one or two things. A novel was written and 80% of it was heinously incorrect, possibly more. Where are you getting your Steeler news? Fox News? A browns blog written but a 14 year old girl with a hello kitty bed spread? Possibly one of the most ridiculous posts ever made on this message board based solely on the ridiculous amount of misinformation.
