Hello!

Wow! Thanks for all the information, and the good Story! I was wondering who the Browns rivals!?(except for the Steelers of course!)
Thanks again!
From somebody who want to learn about The Browns!

you will find that the Browns have fans all over this planet. I am from England and am a very proud browns fan, have been since 1989 when i saw the Browns in a preseason exhibition match in the UK. I've been loyal ever since and enjoy my one trip a year to the amazing place that is Cleveland on game day. A better bunch of people you will never meet.
You made the right choice.

Hey, I'm from England too.
I'm a fairly new fan. I basically started searching for a Browns forum the day Mangini was hired (purely incidental). I've been reading theads on here ever since.
Of course I won't be a proper fan until I come over and see 'em though, which is why I'm going to fly in on Dec 24th and stay to watch the Ravens and Steelers games. All on a min paid job...
It took me a while to get the basics of football down, but it's worth it. I've been missing out on a great sport, and now my favourite.
I was going to try and watch a bit of basketball but the whole circus of L'Moron has put me off a bit.

Hello Browns fan!
I first have to introduce myself, my name is Alex I'm 23 years old and I'm...looking to learning about the game of football. See I'm like almost all the sports but beeing from Montreal i am of course a big hockey fan and also a baseball fan.
But I never really have a favorite football team. And I got to say that i really like your team. Anyway, i was thinking since i want to watch a lot of NFL game this years i got to have a favorite team! So maybe the Browns....who knows! But i was wondering since I'm a Orioles fan, is that weird rooting for baltimore in baseball and cleveland in football?(i don't know a lot about the NFL but a know the ravens use to be the Browns)
Anyway, like a said I don't know a lot about Football but i was wondering for witch reason you became a Browns fan (i really like those kind of story!)
thanks in advanced
PS: sorry for my bad english, is not my first language!
1. Most (but not all) of us Browns fans, myself included, were born and raised in Northeast Ohio so we come by our love of the Browns as a natural geographic matter, much I suspect that you probably root for The Habs. You just root for the home team as they say.
2. The real question is why should YOU root for the Browns, seeing that it does not seem like a natural geographic fit for you. There are several reasons. First, be aware that the NFL was founded right here in NE Ohio. Perhaps you saw some of the Hall of Fame Induction ceremonies over the weekend. The NFL was formed and created in Canton, Ohio and NE Ohio is the cradle of football in this country. Secondly, the Browns have one of the greatest traditions of any team in the NFL despite some recent losing trends. Arguably the greatest coach, the greatest QB, and the greatest running back in the history of the NFL played for the Browns. Also, arguably the greatest dynasty in the history of professional football belongs to the Browns who are perhaps the only team in any sport to play in 10 consecutive championship games.
Traditionally the Browns are also a pure football operation. We don't need half naked dancing chicks to get us excited (even though obviously half naked chicks do get us excited, just at a different time and a different place. We don't need a logo to advertise our team. If there is a logo, it is simply a football helmet. We have some of the most loyal, most prideful, most vociferous fans in sports. Enthusiasm for our team is at an extremely high level....even though they have not been tremendously successful.
But, that is all history and tradition. Why should a young person such as yourself who has no local team become a Browns fan? Because you can be part of something that we believe will be exciting for the future. This Browns team is a team you can build on. The Browns have new, experienced top management with Mike Holmgren and Tom Heckert. We have a young veteran head coach with Eric Mangini. We do have one of the most exciting players in the NFL in Josh Cribbs. We have one of the most solid foundation players in the league with Joe Thomas. The Browns are starting to build some pieces that hopefully will lead to on field success. Come and be a part of it.
3. And, by the way, if you want to put un petit peu of your thoughts down in French, some of here will try to interpret.
A Bientot

And another good reason to be a Browns fan is that you will never be accused of being a "front runner." You know, one of those fans who just picks a winning team and roots for them so he can look cool when his team wins.

The only thing that I'm not sure is the fact that I'm a Baltimore Orioles fan. Since the Browns and the Ravens play in the same division it's not a litle bit weird!? BTW for the people who like baseball here are you all Indians fan!?

Baseball is a whole different sport of course. Why would it be an issue that you like the Orioles? I am sure that most of the Browns fans root for the Indians due to the fact that they have ties to northeast Ohio. I have always rooted for all of the Cleveland professional teams. As long as you aren't cheering for two teams in the same sport and in the same division then I don't understand why there would be concern.

Welcome, again, you made the right choice. Well done for taking the plunge and deciding to visit Cleveland. I was a fan for 18 years before making the leap across the pond - it will be worth every penny you save!
if you want any advice about traveling over etc - send me a PM.
I have to warn you that I don't want too many other English fans stealing my limelight!
Just joking... Welcome aboard. Keep studying the game - What I found was the more you study the game the more you get out of it when you watch - the guys here will show you in their posts just how amazingly deep this game is. I am still learning every season.Don't forget to PM me with any questions you may have.
Howie.

Its Okay for someone like you to be an Orioles fan. I can see why you would not want to be a Washington Nationals fan, seeing that that team abandoned Montreal. You have to pick somebody I guess. And you won't be called a frontrunner for following them either, as bad as they have been.
Beyond that, it is serendipity. Don't know if you realize this, but the Baltimore Orioles began their existance as The St. Louis BROWNS. Indeed. Look it up.

Howie. Did you ever buy that van? You had several of us willing to help you out with the shipping costs to get it over to the UK so you could drive it up to Aston Villa games. (and root against Villa, right?)
