Can rookie Joe Haden back up his swagger, talk?

BEREA — Even from a long distance, even when their numbers are hidden, certain Browns are recognizable just by the way they walk.
Call it a strut. Call it a swagger. Nobody moves quite like them.
One such player is Joshua Cribbs, a special teams star who has proved he can run with the big dogs in the NFL.
Another is Joe Haden, who is a marathon away from proving he was worth a No. 7 overall draft pick.
“I’ve been told that,” Haden says of the nuanced way he walks. “It’s just a confidence thing.”
Talk about confidence. It almost came off as arrogance Thursday when Haden, asked about the speed of the game in his new league, suggested the NFL may not be as fast as the SEC, “at times.”
Haden played for SEC power Florida. He was covering the pride of the Mid-American Conference, Cribbs, for a while Thursday morning.
Their friendly rivalry keeps growing.
On one play during 11-on-11s, Cribbs streaked down the right sideline. Haden had no trouble matching Cribbs stride for stride, but ...
Cribbs stopped suddenly, shuffled back the other way, and was wide open when he caught a nice throw from Jake Delhomme.
A while later, Cribbs tried for another comeback catch against Haden. This time, the rookie adjusted quickly. Delhomme was in the middle of his throw when he saw Haden getting too close. He adjusted and threw the ball out of bounds.
On Saturday, Haden will play his first home game as a Brown, against the Rams. Yes, he said, he is looking forward to facing No. 1 overall pick Sam Bradford.
Head Coach Eric Mangini is careful as he assesses Haden’s progress.
“I like a lot of what I’m seeing,” Mangini said.
The flip side: Mangini doesn’t like all of what he’s seeing.
Haden got an extended playing shift at Green Bay, which, Mangini said, is a good thing.
“We have a lot of things to coach off of,” Mangini said. “He has a lot to learn, and he’s working at it.”
This much has been learned: Assuming they stay healthy, Eric Wright, Sheldon Brown and Haden will be the Browns’ top three cornerbacks, and all three will get a ton of playing time.
Haden, incidentally, says Wright is another of those guys with a signature walk. Haden doesn’t sound like a rookie. He already has made himself one of the guys.
“Who has the biggest swagger on our team?” he said, sprouting a big grin. “It’s definitely Brandon McDonald.”
McDonald probably will be the No. 4 cornerback when the season is up and running.

I never have problem with confidence especially when being a CB in the NFL. This kid should be good and paired with Wright eventually, bring us back to the Dixon and Minnifield days.

Theres no doubt haden has the speed and the moves to be a top CB in the league, he also watches for the ball and turns his head at the right time and appears hard to slip past..not bad for such an inexperienced rookie, wright on the other hand has had a rather rough transition to nfl CB he often has looked robotic and stiff as if he is just running with the WR and not looking to make anything happen, often so slow elam last year left wright on an island and if it was ever time for him to shine its this year because there may not be a next year for eric if he doesnt...
These two guys could make a tremendous duo in our secondary but we are currently one good free safety and 1 or 2 linemen short of that reality...

I think at some point fairly early in the season....maybe game 3-4 we will see Brown shifted to FS.
Brown, Wright, and Haden are our best secondary players and all 3 will be on the field at some point. It makes little sense to stick one in to situational roles.

By the way, what position is it exactly that TJ Ward is playing? I have seen where he was listed at FS and SS and even cornerback. Or is he just multidimensional?

In a Mangini interview he said he expects all secondary players to be interchangeable , so it is of little importance what label you place on them because they will be rotating from one to another . Meaning safeties will switch with other safeties and so forth .
Let me know where I am wrong if I am .

Eric can say what he wants, but some positions aren't interchangeable.
I can see lot's of corners being able to play safety, but lot's of safeties who could never play corner,,,TJ Ward being one of them.
Corner is the skill position on D...those guys have exceptional skills that you can't just switch around.....meaning some people just can't play the position.
Think about it....Joe Haden stands a better chance of plying NT over Shaun Rogers playing corner....Haden might be able to "quick" himself around somebody to get bowled over.....Rogers couldn't run 5 feet with a receiver before the receiver was wide open and long gone..
A QB might be able top play WR, but it is a stretch to think a WR could play QB.

Your point is well taken and I agree . I think you misunderstood my point , or I didn't make myself clear . I just meant safeties going from free to strong . And the corners playing deep or the slot . Sorry for the misunderstanding .

I consider Sheldon Brown to be one of our top 2 starting corners and Haden as the nickle all this year. if he starts i'll be pretty impressed.
i also see TJ staying where he is, with Asante coming on mid-late in the season to spell Elam. sorry Abe but you're just intelligent depth imo.

haden looks like he's getting better and e wright looked improved yesterday. it seems as if eric has strengthened some of the weaker areas of his game. tj ward looks like a hard hitting s in the making.

Yeah i like the whole confidence thing as well for Haden but i hope he dosent over blow his ego and that comment about the SEC being faster at times i find pretty hard to believe wait to you have to face top NFL wide receivers Andre Johnson Randy Moss etc. then you can talk all you would like aka (Revis) but i do like what ive seen so far he dosent look like he gets beat very often and is a quick corner but to be drafted as high as he did *7 overall i believe he should have the expecations to become an elite corner in this league.....Eric Wright is looking very well to last night he dropped a pick though and whats the plan with him are we gonna try to lock him up to a deal or does he wanna hit the free agency market and run for high dollars?
