Jim Brown feeling bitter toward's organization

The Browns Board

  • I'm surprised he feels anything with all the pain meds he is on

  • Take a laxitive...........you'll feel better.

  • that's bad, organizations should always treat their legends to privileges, but it doesn't have to be something so important, I say just give him an advisory position and make everyone happy. the players enjoy having him around anyhow.

  • If the bum has to be paid, he's a bum. How many other former players get paid 6 figures to do something most of us would do for free?

  • I always thought jim brown was treated very well by the browns organization..then holmgren comes along and abruptly cuts it all off..cant say i blame brown if he is bitter in the blink of a new regime he went from a privileged special guest to unwanted scoundrel...jim brown a cleveland browns hero and fan favorite at his age and stage of life did not deserve to be treated this poorly by the browns org...

  • Jim Brown to skip Cleveland Browns' Ring of Honor ceremony

Posted by Michael David Smith on August 22, 2010 8:08 AM ET

The Cleveland Browns' regular-season home opener will include the unveiling of the team's Ring of Honor, recognizing the greatest contributors in the franchise's history.

But the greatest Browns player of them all won't be there.

In what Tony Grossi of the Cleveland Plain Dealer describes as a "profound snub" caused by "frosty relations between the franchise and its greatest player," Brown is planning to skip the event.

Brown hasn't told Browns officials directly that he won't be there, but his wife confirmed that he will not attend.

"He won't be able to make it," Monique Brown said. "He tried to move a few things around [his schedule], but wasn't able to."

Brown has refrained from publicly criticizing the team this offseason, but he was miffed that Mike Holmgren removed him from his senior management position with the team. And Grossi reports that Brown is also upset that the team curtailed its financial involvement in Brown's Amer-I-Can Program.

One source told Grossi, "I'm afraid we've seen the last of Jim Brown around here."

    That would be a shame.

i have a hard time believing some of the things that grossi writes. the guy always seems like he's had an axe to grind with the browns. so i won't assume automatically that this is the whole truth.

as far as jim brown is concerned. i remember his title being taken away from him, but they still wanted him to stay with the team in some capacity. maybe that wasn't good enough for him? i'm not sure. if jim is actually upset at the browns for not having his senior management position anymore, then i'm sorry to hear about that. jim was needed in his former position back then because of the dimwits the browns had in their fo. but now that they have a football guru like holmgren and a good fo, jim isn't needed like he was before, so he got somewhat of a demotion. i guess we'll find out what the real deal is soon.

  • IT is possible that the front office was disappointed that Jim Brown spoke to the media about some sensitive issues.

  • I never was a big fan of his anyways.

The rb I admired back then, and still do, was Leroy Kelly.

We don't know what was going on behind the scenes in the Browns fo. I'm with Holmgren.

  • CLEVELandMILIDH, i LOVE that you post articles but HATE arrowing back and forth to read them line by line.

am i the only one or does it fit for everyone else?

if i'm not the only one, could you please consider shrinking your sig pic down a smidge so your posts will fit in the width of the page? thanks in advance for your consideration. 😎

i hope this article is Grossi reporting news vs. creating news or making mtns out of molehills. whatevs.

  • Sisky, would you like a buttered hand also

  • It's been time for him to go for a long time. You saw his true colors when he said what he did about Lebum leaving town.

JB was and remains the greatest RB and football player of all time but he also remains one of the biggest egotistical maniacs around.

Good bye Jimmy....it's been fun. You're ride into the sunset is long overdue.

  • yes he was the best player in football history and blah, blah, blah. but how long do you have to keep supporting him financially? give him a benefits/retirement package and send him on his way. what kind of important decisions has he made from the front office anyways, ever? every time i've seen him in the past 20+ years he's always been wearing that dog bowl african kufi hat. when did he become an ambassador to a foreign country? see ya! drive safe!

huh? from your perspective wth is that supposed to mean?

i really don't think it's asking much if others are also affected and he does post quite a bit, almost always a paragraph or more. and it takes all of two seconds to fix. dick.

They didn't post the rest of the article. JB essentially got a demotion and a pay cut, and funding to his Amer-I-Can got cut- that made him unhappy.

His decision- he certainly doesn't need the money. He's 74, and entitled to be a grumpy old man. Always has marched to the beat of a different drummer- and if he wants to march ticked off about the Browns into the sunset, so be it. Gotten to the point we owe him about as much loyalty as LeBron. Anyone younger than 55 can only remember him by the film clips, and if he hadn't cut and run to Hollywood- and done a Jerry Rice and played until he couldn't anymore, I can guarantee you a lot of his records would still be standing. The Browns might even have won a Super Bowl or two with him still playing in the late 60s.

what does this have to do with anything? why even bring this up? it's completely irrelevant to this discussion. there's absolutely nothing wrong with a man showing respect for his ancestry by wearing an item like that. it's not a dog bowl, but your comments are quite prejudiced and borderline racist. just because you don't understand the african culture doesn't give you the right to throw childish remarks at it. instead of talking about jim brown you should look in the mirror and focus on yourself. concentrate working on getting rid of that hate and ignorance in you. this is the second time in less than 2 months that i've seen an ignorant comment like this from you.

  • WTF? are you serious? i guess everyone that breaks balls is a racist? who are you anyways? if you'd like to know (AT THE END OF THE DAY) my business partner is black and i've known him and his family since 1986 when they took me in as one of their own being away from my native ohio being stationed in mass where he and i were in the army together. so step the F off mister hallowed be thy name green lantern jerk. it's just an ugly hat on an ugly man. i'd say the same thing about anyone else yellow red white pink or blue.

wow. to remember that post from the cavs board made a month ago.............who are you, the overseer of all things black and white and right and wrong?

you are such an ass. how do you think my friend and i talk to each other? get off your angry black man soap box and realize that people can be friends and break chops down to the color of their skin and yes.....hateful words (of course there is a line and you must know that). this guy is like my brother and his family are like my family. how dare you tell me how to act or accuse me of shit when you don't even know me. when's the last time you've traveled outside of your little box? go see the country, travel around the world, talk to other people in other lands and come back and tell me what you've found out. people who might not agree with me or people who might not agree with you. so. again. who are you?

BTW, go make some white friends, we're not all bad.

angry blackman? make some white friends? first of all, who said i was black? i guess you don't realize that there are white people who hate racism to. whether i'm black or white is irrelevant.

btw, i'm not the one with the racial issues, you are. i'm not the one who's filled with anger, you are. and just like i predicted, you made a foolish reply that was all over the place and doesn't mean nothing at all.
