Browns Vs Lions .... Your thoughts

  • I thought the first team offense looked like a real NFL offense. That alone isn't something we could say for the past few years. I really wish our FO would have made more of a push to get a a good to great veteran WR because our corp are really green. Our defense has looked really suspect. I don't even want to hear how Ryan is keeping it vanilla blah blah blah. We are getting shredded. I understand that you don't play your hand in preseason but when A.J. mother-effing Feeley is carving you up like a thanksgiving turkey, you have a problem. They have looked slow and out of place (minus TJ Ward). Oh, and someone better get some stick-um for Jerome Harrison's gloves because he is dropping that ball like it was dipped in crisco. High and tight Jerome! HIGH AND TIGHT!

  • U have to be the biggest tool. I haven't seen anyone say that the other teams are going all out. It is freakin pre season.

Let's see the year the lions went 0 and 16 they went 4 and 0 in preseason. The pats lost to the rams, colts to the bills.

Do u not know anything. Let's wait until the regular season and then u can come here an maybe have a inteligent thought.

By the way, how does sperm taste? Does it feel all warm in ur mouth?

Some of you Browns fans are amazing! When your guy does it, it's a great play, or, hey it's a tough sport. When it happens to your guy, it's a cheap shot, a dirty team, and you root for a season ending injury?

You your ED problems have nothing to do with this forum!

I don't think we are being inconsistent: When Joe Jones piled drived Terry Bradshaw, yes, it was a cheap shot. Whoever said it wasn't? The fact that we enjoyed the hell out of it doesn't make it any less of a cheap shot. Same deal here: it was a cheap shot. It just that we did not enjoy the hell out of it.

    So? What's your complaint?

As far as rooting for a seaon ending injury for an opposing player, why not? If it means that team is less likely to beat us, so be it. Its nothing personal against these guys, it is just a method by which an opposing team can be weakened. Some people are going to get hurt, so let it be the other guy. God knows the Browns have suffered their share of debilitating....even career ending injuries over the years from Jamir Miller to Courtney Brown to LeCharles Bentley to Joe Jurevicius to etc. etc. etc.

Nobody likes to see their QB get tossed around but, again, if a Browns player did the tossing you guys would be celebrating his intensity. And as far as Manning or Brady, you're over-reacting.

Right, it should not be Manning or Brady...perhaps it can be BR. If he does get his suspension reduced his first game back will be against the Browns. Maybe then the Browns can manhandle him like King Kong manhandle Fay Wray....and put him out for the year. Again, nothing personal, it just that I would like to see the Steelers take their chances with Byron Leftwich and Dennis Dixon. Why not?

    Dear Douchebag:

    Cut and pasted from scout.com

I loved it, when is the last we had a player on defense that scared the other QB's. I want it as my Avatar.tongue

Can someone post a video of Suh trying to rip

Delhomme's head off? That was pretty funny.

i have to agree with most people here and i loved he showed some sort of emotion. prior to the penalty there was a browns player all in suh's face, then the very next play he destroyed jake. if suh unleashes that type of attitude every play he will become even more disruptive.

I enjoyed it and I hope the next qb he rips the head off of is wearing a Minnie Vikings uniform.

In one play Suh did everything that the league is trying to protect quarterbacks from. Honestly, it was sort of awesome.

The play gets better every time I watch it. Yes it was a facemask. Yes, it was unnecessary roughness after the QB got rid of the ball but there's no way he saw Delhomme get rid of it. I love the play. It's the preseason guys. I'm not ashamed, I'm proud. Maybe we can be a team that will be feared. If I am a QB, I don't want Suh getting anywhere near me.

Ripping off Delhommes head? C'mon Delhommes head is still in tact and he's fine. No stretchers were bought on the field after the play

Dont like it? Stay out of the big mans way. It could have been way worse. It's football folks and I'm ok with people thinking of Detroit as having an intimidating D-Line.

Like I said, so be it. The next time someone goes Joe Turkey Jones on Big Ben Gay, don't complain about it.

Or, do. But who's gonna care?

  • Cleveland Browns quarterback Seneca Wallace thinks Ndamukong Suh's foul against Jake Delhomme warrants suspension

Mary Kay Cabot, The Plain Dealer

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Browns quarterback Seneca Wallace thinks Lions rookie Ndamukong Suh twisting quarterback Jake Delhomme's head and then whipping him to the ground headfirst Saturday night in Detroit was flagrant enough to warrant a suspension by the NFL office.

Browns coach Eric Mangini said the Browns will ask the NFL to look into the incident, but that he imagines they'd do so even without an inquiry.

"He already face masked him, then he grabs him by the neck, twists it and throws him down,'' said Wallace. "To me, that's something you can get suspended for, I think.''

Wallace said the move was "a little over the top as far as a personal foul goes. I understand the face mask part. But he horse-collared him and threw him down. We laughed about it, but that stuff can get people really hurt.''

With about nine minutes left in the second quarter of Detroit's 35-27 victory, Suh grabbed Delhomme by the face mask, yanked on it, then grabbed his head and twisted it before flinging him to the ground. Suh received a 15-yard face mask penalty for the infraction.

Mangini said he anticipates the NFL will review it.

"We will [send in the tape] but I have to imagine that whether we did or not, I'm sure they'll look at it closely,'' he said.

Mangini went on to say that he liked Suh, the No. 2 overall pick, when he interviewed him and worked him out during the predraft process.

"When I met the kid, he was a good kid,'' said Mangini. "I don't think he's a malicious guy from what I know about him. Just a poor decision.''

Should he have been thrown out of the game?

"He put the quarterback at risk, but I'm not the official,'' Mangini said. "You don't want to see that at any point, but my experience with him in the draft process is that he's a good kid.''

Delhomme said Sunday that the officials handled it during the game and that it was up to the league. "I'm just glad we got the first down,'' he said with a smile. Delhomme went on to throw a TD pass two plays later.

  • Browns’ Lauvao Bests Lions’ Suh: Mangini Asks League For Discipline

    Written By: Rick from WFNY

I went back and watched with great interest the match-up between Browns rookie right guard Shawn Lauvao and Detroit rookie Ndamukong Suh. Suh was the second pick in the draft, but widely considered to be the top player available. Lauvao was making his second preseason start, and looked pretty decent in his first effort against the Rams, but wasn’t tested the way Suh would certainly do. What I saw made me smile. Lauvao certainly held his own against the Nebraska uber-pick.

Before you go crazy remembering the face-twisting body slam Suh laid on Jake Delhomme, make sure you check the tape. Suh lined up across from Lauvao, and despite a wicked inside spin move Shawn kept his feet in the proper position and walled Suh. He then had to engage a stunting LB from the opposite side of the line, passing Suh to the inside. Originally I thought Mack should have picked up Suh, but Mack was also engaged. With the stunt the Lions had brought more rushers on the right side than the Browns had blockers. Lauvao, having stopped Suh’s forward momentum reacts and picks up the hard charging stunt keeping him from Delhomme. The line holds for at least 3 seconds, at which time Hillis disengages and becomes the outlet receiver. Jake is forced to step forward in the pocket because of an outside rusher who gets by Joe Thomas as he stumbles. Delhomme steps up right into Suh.

I wouldn’t lay the blame for that hit on Lauvao. He took on two men on the play.

Suh used a variety of moves against Lauvao and Shawn was ready. I thought his footwork was excellent most of the time, and he used his hips well against the bull rush. In the running game he even got movement on the bigger Suh. Watch Hillis’ touchdown run (if you can find it, I couldn’t online) and see the push Lauvao gets against Suh. It was fantastic.

Now Ndamukong Suh isn’t a polished NFL veteran, but he was the best test of the preseason for Lauvao and in my book Shawn graded out to an A- for the effort. based on what I’ve seen the last two weeks I would be more than comfortable giving that starting RG spot to Lauvao. Will he make a few rookie mistakes through the year? Of course, but he seems to have the physical tools and techniques necessary to play the position. If you recorded the game, there was a play in particular in the first half where Lauvao’s helmet came flying off at the line of scrimmage, but that didn’t deter him from sprinting out to make a cut block on a LB in pursuit.

Tony Pashos didn’t have quite the day that Lauvao did, but overall he didn’t play bad either. Like St. Clair, Pashos was victimized by the edge speed rush once or twice, but certainly nothing that I would classify as ‘turnstyle’ worthy. Pashos also got into a few heads on Saturday by blocking until the whistle blew. On a couple occasions I saw Detroit linemen frustrated and taking shots after the whistle at Pashos, who had the sense not to fall for the ploy.

Could this mean a strengthened right side of the line? If Womack is able to return I would feel much better about the depth heading into this season.

A lot of players are going to be put out for the year anyway. Why not have it be the right players, the players that play for the teams that we would like to see lose.

I mean, face it...it is highly possible that the Steelers got to win their last Super Bowl because Tom Brady was hurt and out for that season. If he plays for the Pats that year, maybe they win the SB and not Peetown. Don't look a gift horse in the mouth.

  • Back to the original point....Browns v. Lions...random thoughts:

    1) For a team that's been down a few years now, it was nice to see Detroit's offense actually look lively. I like what I see from Stafford. I like Best but I think durability may be an issue. Their defense looks to be much improved in year 2 of Jim Schwarz. The front four will pressure a lot of QBs.

    2) Jake Delhomme continues to be efficient which is the last word you'd associate with a Browns' QB in recent years. I don't like making too much of this having only seen the TV angles but it seemed like Jake passed up some open receivers for shorter routes. Perhaps that's a pre-season thing. I suppose I should not read too much into it. I've always maintained that the improvement Jake brings to the QB position is from the neck up. He looks in control and doesn't seemed challenged by the simple things (getting the team out of bad plays, gettng plays off before the clock, etc). His arm probably isn't what it once was but he's more accurate than #10 or #3 were and that helps.

    3) Harrison continued with the fumbling. Hillis continues with the bruising. I'd love to see Hardesty get in on the action. James Davis left more of an impression on me with his open field moves and acceleration than the previous games. Chris Jennings is gone. Too much tippy-toeing.

    4) WRs/TE continue to look improved with better QB play. Robiskie is more like what I thought he would be last year. Cribbs showed that he's working on being a legitimate receiver. I don't know about the bottom end of the depth chart but perhaps one will emerge. I can't say enough about Watson and Evan Moore.

    5) Lauvao held his own against Suh. I think he'll pan out. Pashos looked reasonable as RT. Mack, Steinbach and Thomas were as expected.

    6) I was hoping to see more out of the front seven but I don't know if that's by design or not. We aren't getting pressure on the QB. I've thought the run-defense was fairly reasonable (Jahvid Best's run aside). One of the DLmen forced a fumble that Wright scooped up and they did turn the tide in that regard in the first half for our offense to get some control over the game. Barton and Bowens, for all of their veteran savvy, just seem slow and lumbering. Gocong needed to finish on the play where he came up the middle. I heard a theory somewhere that we haven't actually seen Mangini's final LB combination and I sure hope so...because we need something with a little more oomph.

    7) I think Elam needs to sit. He's a liability in pass defense and doesn't seem to contribute much

😎 Haden seemed a bit more comfortable in this game. I can't tell from TV which DBs are doing well in coverage. I don't know how much criticism a Sheldon Brown or Eric Wright deserves.

    9) Colt McCoy seemed to have a little more rhythm in this game. Sure, the fumble hurt and in the end, he didn't get us in the end zone but it seemed like 10-14 was better than the previous outings. Obviously, our season being a success or failure will have absolutely nothing to do with #12's development or lack thereof.

    10) Special teams continue to excite me. I hope Sorensen is okay. It seems like this will be a strength again this year and I can't wait to see how much we can change games with STs.

    Just my .02

That sounds like the Jake many of us came to know and enjoy rooting for in South Louisiana. Doesn't complain, simply cares about trying to win.

You Browns fans picked up more than a few fans down here, at least for as long as Jake is the starting QB. We hope he can regain his 2003-2005 form!

Nah, I was just reminded that Suh's nickname is, or should be NdamaKingKong Suh. And he kind of acted like King Kong on that play so I thought I would use the line.

I thought it was clever.....and unlike Jim Brown I AM seeking validation for my cleverness. In fact, I demand it. Give it to me. NOW!

    Creativity I will give you!

I just can't believe how many, and how vehement, you guys are about this. There are "over the top, aggressive" plays in every game. It's just that when it happens to the Browns you guys get all twisted up.

I remember a few years ago when the Browns missed the playoffs because a team (I think Indy) laid down for the final game of the season. This happens to a couple teams every single year, but when it happened to the Browns you guys were out of your mind.....you wanted the NFL to change it's rules, you wanted blood.

You girls get your panties in a bunch at the drop of a hat!

And every fan base of every team does the same thing. Welcome to planet Earth. (Or is it Planet NFL?)
