Mangini must win 2 out of next 3 or he is a goner
-
This is simply not true. Yesterday was the first loss against a "bad" team and it was on the road against a team that has been giving some pretty good teams a run for their money. The rest of the losses are against teams that have a combined 62-28 record. The Browns have the toughest schedule in the NFL and quite frankly anyone that was expecting a huge improvement in the W-L column this year is a moron. Also, if you can't see the improvement from this year to last without strictly looking at Ws and Ls then I hope it isn't people like you that make the decision on hiring and firing because there will never be any stability because they will be looking at a short term solution instead of looking at the long term which is what Mangini is working on.
So were back to not counting W-L's. Shooting for that participation trophy again.
This long term plan that Mangini has when is it supposed to pay off. This year looks like a 1-2 game improvement over last year. If the process continues next year then that puts the Browns at .500 still not likely to result in the playoffs. Teams that are just on the edge of greatness don't lose games like yesterdays and need the Panthers to miss a FG to get a win. All the Browns needed yesterday was to get in to the endzone once to change the day. Mangini's inability to make a change or his refusal to make a change is his weakness. Putting Wallace in for at least a series would have lit a spark under someone.
I'm not for switching horses mid stream but if that horse can't get you across the stream why stay on him. That goes for QB's and coaches.

I think you start looking at wins and losses next year. It is pretty clear that this team is almost over the hump and with a few additions in the offseason there should be playoff talk next year. I think getting FAs to come to Cleveland in 11 will be a hell of a lot easier than it was before Mangini took over. The entire attitude of the organization has changed as well and will eventually yield a winner. I'm sorry that so many of you remain so shortsighted. By all means, let's tear it down again and continue the coaching search in another two years because it seems like that cycle is working wonders.

Mangini baffles me. He really does. Maybe it's like a Twilight Zone, where Mangini and Holmgren see something else entirely when they watch Delhomme play quarterback.

How about we just hire a new coach every year until we have a winning record! That will surely bring us back to the postseason...
it's better than sticking with some lame ass duck of a coach. there is a reason he's no longer the coach of the NYJ.
what's their record since he's left?
oh and just to save someone the trouble, yeah......i know bellicheat once coached cleveland and you all think he would have been the NE version of bellicheat if he'd only been allowed to stay, right?
wrong. bellicheat has done exactly 2 things in his coaching career to gain all the success and the *genius coach* label he has..............#1 he happened to start the greatest or second greatest QB of the modern era (how smart do you have to be to do that) and #2 he cheated.................alot.
so while switching HC's every year isn't good. so is letting a incompetent keep coaching just to "give him enough time".
i would say you guys need to "chin up" at the HC position, but the chin wants nothing to do with cleveland, he's got his sights and choice of picks on a couple of warm weather HC positions.

why should anyone on this BROWNS board give two F's about what your opinion is about anything. go sniff some ben bum, troll.

It's that simple.
We need to see significant improvement on the field and in the W/L column.
Finishing the year 6-10 is only 1 game better than last year. That's nothing to get excited about. That's assuming we beat Cinci, but that is definitely not a lock.
We have accomplished some things this year. Saints, Patriots, OT vs Jets, Hillis and McCoy, stingy defense.
I recognize the potential, but potential don't mean shit in the NFL. Too many injuries and off season moves make teams change drastically from year to year. This isn't college ball where you know what to expect the next season based on your current roster. Teams should NEVER, ever be happy about talking about next year. That is loser talk.
Do the New England Patriots think about rebuilding for next year? Hell no. And don't give me any bs about all the talent they have because they don't. They have the league MVP in Tom Brady and that's it. They play with 5 ft 9 wide receivers and an NFL defense that is rated as one of the worst. YET, they win because of their coaching. Bellichik gets it done....period.
Quit making excuses for losing. I like what I've seen from mangini in some areas, mainly the defense, but this guy does not a get a free pass just for being competitive. If he has a sh*tty O-coordinator that can't produce anything on Sunday's then the head coach should can that guy and dissaccociate himself from a loser coach.
We are losing to teams we have no business losing too. That's a sign of bad coaching and is a sure fire way to NEVER make the playoffs. You think this shit will stop next year even if we do have talent???? WE'll be talented and lose to teams we have no business losing to and it will become Romeo Crenell all over again.
Yesterday's loss was a BAD, BAD loss. We've had too many BAD losses this year. I would rather eliminate BAD losses than have GOOD wins. WE have had BAD losses to Tampa, KC, Jacksonville, NY Jets (could have ran out the clock for a tie) and Buffalo. These BAD losses are the result of BAD coaching and personell decisaions.
Bottom Line: Stop making excuses for Mangini. I like him. But, if he doesn't win games for me...then he loses my support. PERIOD. No f*cken excuses. It's the NFL and everyone has excuses. Win or GTFO. Let's beat Cinci and split the Balt/Ptt homes games. If this doesn't happen than this season will considered a dissapointment and justification for the removal of all coaches.

You can have that opinion just fine, but be careful or you'll wind up exactly like the Jets (you sound like one of their fans). It's always win now. A bad game, and it's "we need a new OC"... a hundred yard rusher and it's "we need a nose tackle to stuff the run."
These people don't have clue, but because they have their torches and their mob and their radio call-in shows and their chubby chowder heads, they usually get what they ask for... a new this, a new that, ... it's always the next thing and there's never an end to what needs to be fixed. They see all the bands but demand a refund because they never saw the parade.
So here's an idea: think twice about what constitutes success over the course of a season. Think about what ingredients the teams that win have in common. Pittsburgh, New Orleans, New England, Indianapolis, Giants, Ravens (ah em, sry). Think about it.

The common thread is a very high level of QB play and continuity at QB and head coach. Huge article on that recently, quoting a ton of GMs and Chuckie, too. Main point: Until you have a quarterback capable of being Top 10 on a fairly regular basis, you're not even on the track... so you have to just keep firing. Gruden was only one who said, "Everything else is a lot easier."
As the Ravens settle into being a consistent winner for the first time ever (they've had a weird on-off pattern since the Super Bowl), notice Flacco's ascent toward the top 10, joining all the teams and QBs listed above.
Quarterback and head coach.

I would love to see Mangini for one more year with a new OC. Dumballs has to go.. I dont understand why so many people on here want to see Mangini gone.
-
The way I see it, Holmgren has to be salivating over the opportunity to bring in a form of the WCO with such an intelligent, fast and accurate (short) passer as Colt. No question he fires the OC and brings in someone that can implement the system he envisions. If Mangini is on board, he stays. If not, he's gone. But I think Holmgren will keep him here for one more season with some high "win" expectations in 2011.
As for Delhomme, I do not understand the logic of having him start next week. He has demonstrated absolutely no ability to ignite this offence. Remember how quickly Colt was getting the team up the field time and time again? I don't think the team wants to play for Delhomme and I don't think he can carry the team - so it's a bad combination. Perhaps the announcement is to fool the other team into preparing for Delhomme and then having to face Colt? I sure hope so.

Yeah, there is a reason he isn't coaching the Jets anymore

If this is true this simply disgusts me i mean are you serious, I seriously believe this team believes in Mccoy and not Delhomme

The Steelers never win anything when they have to go through the Patriots. This is a fact.
Had the Pats not lost to the Broncos in '05 on a fluky 3 int game by Brady, the Steelers would NEVER have won in Foxboro.
They were lucky to get Jake the Snake instead of Touchdown Tom
Brady gets hot chicks.......Ben has to corner drunk co-eds
Brady 3 rings......Ben 2 (thanks to 100yd pick six's and td passes by randle el)
Brady handsome, classic jawline, straight nose, great hair....Ben is taller
Brady mega endorsements....Ben has and is a "Fathead"
Brady> Ben

oh, and tell me what they've won since they had to stop cheating?
nada!

you both get a "brownie" pass because neither of you has experience on this particular subject, both being browns fans.
just to let you in on reality.
if you ain't winning championships, then you ain't winning anything.

brady has ZERO rings that his team wasn't proven to be cheating while winning.
Ben has 2 legitimate championships.
that said, on paper brady is the better "traditional" QB.
but in reality for Pitt, brady could not do what Ben does behind the o-line we've had for the past 5yrs. in fact i doubt brady would still be able to stand after playing behind the bunch of matadors we have yelling "Ole!" as they let pass rushers attack Ben from every angle.

Holmgren/heckert will base their decision on more than just wins vs loses, keep in mind holmy is a veteran coach and im sure he will find plenty of fault in mangini's overall system and decision making process(which are both piss poor)..
Whatever happens im with holmgren even if he screws up again and needs an extra year to see that mangini is not it...
But if he does keep the manweeni and he fails as i suspect he would than holmgren will find himself at the center of controversy and not looking so smart but instead looking very weak and looking like another randy lerner failsauce hire....
I dont envy holmgrens decision as its one between solid below mediocrity with mangini vs the unknown, unless holmy takes to the field himself and even that has its risks for the czar...
My personal feelings on the issue are gruden/ryan/holmy, even my dog or the homeless guy roaming around the skids could and would outcoach mangini...
-
I agree with you a 100%..
Some browns fans are so use to losing that they think since our team plays hard, that our coach should get another year.
There professionals, they should play hard. Mangini probably would have been a very good coach pre 1990s, but the league has changed.
What I still can't understand is how other teams pick up wrs who are off the street (derek hagan, half the rams wrs). Yet the browns can't get a wr to get any seperation.
Shit michigan expieremented with the towel boy at wr.
