Jim Zorn
-
I just read in BR where Jim Zorn is rumored to be in the conversation of maybe OC . I just wondered what all of you thought of this option . He has a history with the "Big Show , and is said to be very helpful with young QBS .
What say you all?

I remember when the Redskins hired him and the talk was about how much good it would do for Jason Campbell, but that never really happened. Granted being a HC is different than an OC. and OC you only have to deal with about half of the team, maybe less and can focus on certain players more.
I would be okay with it I guess.

I'd love to lure him away from Baltimore.

why would everyone welcome this move? he's never been an oc before.

I feel like I would just hate Jim Zorn all year.
NEXT.

I don't want him as OC. I just don't want him in Baltimore. Get him as QB coach/assisstant OC. It's an upward move, slightly. He's great with young QB's, and he knows the game.
I hate Josh McDaniels, but I wouldn't seeing him as OC. But his ego is too big to take a "demotion".

I don't think McDaniels ego is too big to take a "demotion" to an OC for next year?
In fact, weren't he and Mangini tight when they were together in New England?
Weren't they 16-0 in the regular season with Brady setting the season TD pass record when he was OC there?
I think it is undoubted that he was made a HC prematurely.
It wouldn't surprise me to see Mangini lobby for McDaniels to be brought in here as OC. Not sure he fits Holmgren's idea of what system should be run, but there would be no harm in Mangini asking.

McDaniels is from the same coaching tree as Daboll... and I think we're going to go to Holmgren's offense next season. Just makes sense that he'd want to live or die based on what he knows.
Zorn makes sense if that's true. So does Haskell. Gruden or Harbaugh as head coach (Harbaugh's a WCO guy).

I don't know if they were "tight", but they were together on the same staff. They know each other personally. I'm sure they don't hate each other. It would be a tremendous improvement over Daboll. McDaniels is a proven winner at OC. This is assuming Mangini isn't shitcanned, which I think is a fair assumption. I'd like to see Mangini get another chance with McDaniels at the offensive helm. We wouldn't have to self destruct the playbook, the scheme, reads, terminology would all be relatively the same, I'd assume. McDaniels and Daboll are from the same offensive school, so it wouldn't be too bad of a transition.
If Mangini is fired, as Shep likes to think he will be, there's a bunch of possible scenarios. Personally, I'd like to see this one:
Holmgren brings in Gruden to be HC. Gruden is a brilliant offensive mind, and a WCO genius. He also believes in a well-balanced and heavy running game to balance the WCO, which is perfect for us in the later months as we all know. Gruden has some innovative run schemes, and runs a solid zone scheme. I don't know how that would affect Hillis, but Hardesty is used to the zone scheme as Tennessee ran it a lot. The main reason I like Gruden is because of this quote, though, When asked how he was allowed to run the WCO in Oakland under Al Davis’ ownership, he replied “West Coast Offense, what is that? I run plays that fit my talent and gain yardage. I don’t follow a thing called the West Coast Offense. That idea is overblown”.
Holmgren gives his boy Gil Haskell another crack at OC. We all know why this makes sense.
OR
Holmgren brings in Jim Zorn to run as OC, with Haskell basically calling the shots anyway. After all, why lose your cushy job as Senior Advisor to the President?
As far as defensive coordinator goes, I think it's safe to assume Rob Ryan is garnering a lot of interest as a future HC. If he were to leave, I think the most obvious choice would be Jim More Jr., Holmgren and Mora are very close, and Mora is looking for a job.
I could also see us bringing in Mike Zimmer, current defensive coordinator of the Cincinnati Bengals. After the season the Bengals are having, Zimmer might be looking for a new job along with the rest of the coaching staff. Zimmer coached under Parcells, and Holmgren and Parcells are close friends. Maybe Parcells endorses Zimmer.
I'd much rather keep Rob Ryan, though.

I'm against the whole Mcdainels thing he is the one that stopped giving him carries after her showed promise is rookie year not to mention Hillis like every other Denver bronco really didn't get along with him im sure Holmgren has plenty of other connections to get us a OC

Him=Hillis sorry about that

The weakest link is our o-line and our receiving corp.
