The other B.D. team is the Packers.

The other guy with 4 rings ... I am supposing they weren't all in the NFL since you said "pro football" ... maybe a CFL coach? Bud Grant?

Packers is correct. With that we have most of the answers.

  • I might as well get this trivia in early in the week, so here you go. This is a mixture of football and "potions". Don't ask why I went there, I don't know. Maybe it was something I drank:

    1. If Bill Belichick were to lead the Patriots to another title this year, he would become only the 7th Head Coach in Professional Football history to have won 4 Championships. Name the other 6:

    2. What is the real plant "hogworts" used for?

    3. Lou Groza holds the record for the Kicker with longest career with only 1 team with 21 years with the Browns. There is an active kicker who is second on that list. Who and what team does he play for?

    4. Yesterday Tom Brady moved into the Top 20 list of all time passers by yardage. He has played his entire career with the Patriots. Of those Top 20, 5 other QBs played their entire careers with a single team. Name those 5 QBs.

    5. What band had a #3 hit on the charts in 1965 with the song "Love Potion #9"?

    6. Cheers: Name several of the ingredients in Wassail.

    7. The Browns got beat by a team led by a QB from Harvard. Only 2 Harvard graduates in history have made the Pro Bowl. One played for the Browns upcoming opponent. Who was that player?

    8. Speaking of Ivy League schools, the character B.D. of Doonesbury comics fame is based on Cleveland St. Ignatius grad and Yale Quarterback and team captain Brian Dowling. B.D. actually did play a few years in the NFL with 2 different NFL teams. Name those 2 teams.

    9. Who was the NFL Coach of the Year in 2009?

    10. What famous personage drank a potion of Cadava Berries?

    11. Lynn Swann, Jerry Rice, Michael Irvin, Deion Branch, Hines Ward, Santonio Holmes. Which one of these WRs was NOT a Super Bowl MVP?

    12. What English boarding school in Warwickshire UK which was founded in 1567 and which was attended by among others Neville Chamberlain, Lewis Carroll, and Salman Rushdie gave its name to a well known sport?

    13. What is the rivalry between the Weltenburg Abbey and the Weihenstephan Abbey based on?

Here are the complete full answers:

    1. If Bill Belichick were to lead the Patriots to another title this year, he would become only the 7th Head Coach in Professional Football history to have won 4 Championships. Name the other 6:

    Paul Brown..7 titles, George Halas...6, Curly Lambeau...6, Vince Lombardi...5, Chuck Noll....4, and Guy Chamberlain...4.

Chamberlain won 3 titles with the Canton/Cleveland Bulldogs in 1922, 1923, and 1924, and with the Frankford Yellow Jackets in 1926.

    2. What is the real plant "hogworts" used for?

The Hogworts plant is the source for croton oil. In a very, very small dose it can be a laxative. In anything more than a smidge it is a caustic poison. It is also used in small doses as a facial chemical peel because its caustic nature can create exfoliation. But again, if it is applied in anything but very small amounts it will create caustic burns on the face or anywhere on the skin. It has been used in the past as essentially a torture tool.

    3. Lou Groza holds the record for the Kicker with longest career with only 1 team with 21 years with the Browns. There is an active kicker who is second on that list. Who and what team does he play for?

Jason Hansen has been the Lions kicker continuously since 1992, 19 years and counting.

    4. Yesterday Tom Brady moved into the Top 20 list of all time passers by yardage. He has played his entire career with the Patriots. Of those Top 20, 5 other QBs played their entire careers with a single team. Name those 5 QBs.

Dan Marino with the Dolphins, John Elway with the Broncos, Dan Fouts with the Chargers, Payton Manning with the Colts (so far), and Jim Kelly with the Bills, though, as noted Kelly did play with the Houston Gamblers of the USFL which folded.

    5. What band had a #3 hit on the charts in 1965 with the song "Love Potion #9"?

The Searchers is correct. As one of the British Invasion bands they also had hits with Needles and Pins and a few other songs.

    6. Cheers: Name several of the ingredients in Wassail.

Basic ingredients can include cider, orange juice, lemon juice, cloves, cinnamon, sugar.

On occasion some people do spike it with rum or vodka or the like.

    7. The Browns got beat by a team led by a QB from Harvard. Only 2 Harvard graduates in history have made the Pro Bowl. One played for the Browns upcoming opponent. Who was that player?

Pat McInally who yes, had his head meet Thom Darden's forearms on that one play.

The other Harvard grad who became a Pro Bowler happens to be Mike Birk, currently of the Ravens, but who went to the Pro Bowl 6 times as a Viking.

Dowling played for the Patriots for 2 years and the Packers for 1 in the mid-70s. He is now an investment banker in Boston, and the character based on him still makes regular appearances in Doonesbury.

    9. Who was the NFL Coach of the Year in 2009?

Marvin Lewis of the Cincinnati Bengals.....and lo and behold, he will probably be canned at the end of the year. Note of course that Bengals Owner Mike Browns will never pay a guy to sit at home. If Lewis has more years left on his deal, he will return with the Bengals.

    10. What famous personage drank a potion of Cadava Berries?

Lnc was oh, so close. It wasn't Romeo, but Juliet who drank the cadava berry potion. She drank the potion recall that was only supposed to give her the appearance of being dead, and this is what the cadava berry potion is supposed to accomplish.....kind of like the "Liquid Death" of Harry Potter. Romeo, upon believing that Juliet was dead, drank real deadly poison. Perhaps hemlock or a cyanide concoction.

    11. Lynn Swann, Jerry Rice, Michael Irvin, Deion Branch, Hines Ward, Santonio Holmes. Which one of these WRs was NOT a Super Bowl MVP?

It was Irvin. All the others have indeed been named SB MVP. It was either Troy Aikman or Emmit Smith that won the SB MVPs those years that Irvin played for the Cowboys.

    12. What English boarding school in Warwickshire UK which was founded in 1567 and which was attended by among others Neville Chamberlain, Lewis Carroll, and Salman Rushdie gave its name to a well known sport?

The name of the school is the Rugby School. Rugby of course being the forerunner of football.

    13. What is the rivalry between the Weltenburg Abbey and the Weihenstephan Abbey based on?

Come on guys, this was a quiz on Potions. What is your favorite potion? BEER

These two Abbeys have been having a dispute for centuries over who holds the record for the longest continuing operating brewery. In the Middle ages it was the church abbey's who did the brewing of the beer.

Weihenstephan Abbey claims to have continuously brewed beer there since the year 1040 AD.

Weltenburg Abbey says that its rival cannot support its claim, but that they can support their claim that they have been brewing beer since 1050 A.D. Another abbey/brewery in the Czech Republic claims they are both wrong and that it can show that it has been paying a brewery tax since 1004 A.D.

Whichever Abbey is right, that is 1000 years of brewing beer.

  • Rugby School. Where football was founded?:

  • Weihenstephan Beer Oldest continuously brewed beer.

Have any of you ever had this beer?

  • Weltenburg Abbey disputes the claim:
