Why not hire Jim Tressell as Browns coach

  • I don't know why it is so hard for Big Ten fans to give the SEC props. They're tough and talented and winning boat loads of NC's.

And WTF is it about SEC fans pissing all over Ohio State? We play some good non-con teams every year, and some cream puff non-cons. But we are not horrible. Look who we lost to in the SEC lately -- Florida (National Champs) and LSU (National Champs)

We played the best and lost. WTF is so wrong about this?

In your case, nothing. I can tell you are modest. There are other folks on this board, aka King Ghoolie Lives, claiming that Ohio State is the best team in college football. And to be honest, Ohio State plays a pretty easy non-conference schedule. They usually have one real non-conf game per year, this year it was Miami (who turned out to be not so good.)

I just hate hearing OSU fans boast about how great they are because they play lower tier teams and win big, then they play a real team and get stomped. Then next year, the same exact stuff. Albert Einstein once said "The definition of insanity is continuing to do the same thing and expecting different results."

I do give you props, though. You played a pretty good team in Arkansas and won. Although a couple of your top players shouldn't have been playing, a win is a win.

  • SEC leads 20-14??

The SEC is tough and probably the best conference in the nation. I have zero problem stating that. My problem is that it isn't nearly as far ahead of other conferences as the SEC honks like to think that they are.

You do realize that Tressel coached teams are 5-3 in BCS Bowl games with a championship ring to show for it. I know that fact won't sit well with your agenda but there it is.

    Ohio St. 7-10

    Mich 20-5

    Mich St. 5-6

    Indiana 26-21

    Illinois 2-6

    Minnesota 5-3

    Wisconsin 4-8

    Penn St. 16-6

    Purdue 4-5

    Iowa 4-3

    Northwestern 2-5

LOL! You OSU fans have nothing to boast about! Michigan's record beats the shit out of your record.

    What are these records for?

  • SEC leads 20-14??

17-17 is the correct answer with all the games being played in SEC country. Not exactly dominant, eh?

OK, Urban Meyer's BCS record is 4-0 with 2 crystal footballs. 4-0 is better than five and 3. 2 rings is better than 1.

What happened in 2006? I believe Urban Meyer's Gators snuck up and buttf**ked a HIGHLY favored OSU team.

And they were barely bowl eligible this year. Or are we just picking and choosing what we want here?

Also, lol at using a single game thinking you proved a point. If you don't mind, I'll stick with the 34 game sample size when arguing my point.

Barely bowl eligible is fine. They beat a Not so Big Ten team didn't they? Proof that the Gators can have one of their most mediocre seasons in years and still beat a top Big Ten team.

That top team went 4-4 in the Big Ten, Chachi. You really aren't good at this are you?

I know the beating is getting severe but I can't let this hypocrisy slide either. An SEC honk pulling out this card. If I remember correctly, the King of your conference that sold himself to the highest bidder is still able to play in his bowl game, correct?

It goes both ways, same matchup last year with different results

I do not support Cam Newton. He should be banned from NCAA Football.

Cam is not the king of the SEC. The king of the SEC was, is, and always will be Tim Tebow, the greatest college football player of all time.

You don't know Tim Tebow will be the king of the SEC forever...He will probably be for the distant future but someone new will probably come along

umm no? I attended the Sugar Bowl last year and watched the Gators destroy Cincinnati 51-24.

    No sir.

  • I don't really care what conference is best in college football because I pay attention to the NFL a lot more. The SEC seems to be the best conference right now but I won't be surprised if this changes in the near future.

I am waiting for the day they switch to a playoff system. Then the better seeded teams can have the home game. I am getting sick of the SEC (and PAC 10 in the rose bowl) playing home bowl games every year. How about they travel for once and play a road game in the cold up north? I'd be willing to bet the big 10 would win a lot more bowl games than they do now if they got a few "home" bowl games... but people won't travel to cold weather games and all the NCAA and schools care about is the money. kinda sad...

  • We have a great example of the difference between Big Ten and SEC unfolding as we speak

Michigan...the winningest program in college football, has an opportunity to hire the hottest coach on the planet, who just happens to be

a MU alum...but they're willing to accept Harbaugh's decision and just move on, even though, from all appearances, he is the perfect fit

Don't get me wrong, I hate Wolverines, but hiring JH would be good for MU and good for the Big Ten and if I were a MU fan I'd be up Brandon's ass demanding they sell Detroit

to China or whatever they have to do to get this guy in Ann Arbor

If this were , say Georgia...you think they'd stop short of selling their collective souls for chance to whip Florida's ass for the next ten years?

I'm a Big Ten lifer, yet other than Tressel and JoPa, I can't name five other B10 coaches, but...

Spurrior,Miles Patrino,Saban, and Chizik, right off the top...I could probably name the rest if I had to...noway I could tell you who's coaching

    Minnesota.

  • @feartheroo said:

He won 1 National Championship. He coached freaking Youngstown State, that's not even a FBS school so it doesn't count. The Big Ten is weak, he beats up on teams like Marshall then gets rocked by Wisconsin. And the same reason I don't want Cowher=Once a Steeler, always a Steeler....Tressel=Once a Suckeye, Always A Suckeye. I'm embarrassed he went to UA.

Why not hire Mike Haywood to coach the Steelers?

FYI YSU is a FBS team. As far as Tressel goes his realm is college football. If he wanted to coach pro he would have been somewhere by now. I think it's best to seek a coach elsewhere. I agree that OSU plays too soft a schedule and I'm a fan. I think the Big Ten by in large plays too weak a schedule that's where your BCS (Bowl Championship Slaughterings) come from. The draw back for the Big 10 would be...it would take a few years of getting knocked around by SEC and Pac 10 teams before they compete again. Don't get me wrong I'm a Buckeye fan but they're not doing these kids any favors by playing cupcakes plus if they pick up some harder games and actually compete some of the faster talents that flood the SEC might reconsider thus evening the playing field.

are you kidding? YSU is Youngstown State they are definitely not an FBS school, they are FCS which is a joke.
