My opinion and assumptions are no more wrong than yours. You mentioned the big picture. The big picture is wins and losses, your record.

First off, the team he ran into the ground went to the playoffs the year after he was let go in which he had a winning record.

Second, I have faith in Holmgren although he didn't get to any superbowls in the capacity that he is in now. What I said was that it scared me that he thought he had to make a change. Which sounds to me as if he succumbed to the pressure of the fans, who as a whole, are idiots.

Lastly, the big picture is wins and losses? Really? So we were good to go after 2007 with Crennel winning 10 games? I'm glad we are sitting pretty now. The big picture is building a solid foundation, then adding talent and depth to make winning sustainable. What Mangini did with this team is being overlooked by a lot of myopic homers.

Mike Holmgren knows what building a foundation looks like since he took two teams with no recent history of success to the tune of 3 Super Bowls, has had 5 of his coaches go on to be successful Head Coaches (2 made the Super Bowl), and understands how to put a staff together. He has the Rolodex and the status to get some of the smarter people in football here.

And Eric Mangini attracted Rob Ryan and Brian Daboll.

    Enough said........

  • I'm not sure if some of you morons understand that MH went to superbowls as a COACH not PRESIDENT. Its the same as when Savage was. Whatever you say Walrus, yes Walrus, your the greatest Walrus. I'm rooting for the guy, but the best thing he has done to this point is bring Heckertt. Make him earn your respect like you did Mangini. Don't stand there with your mouth open!

  • Miami cancels interview with Mangini. They said it was for a consulting job, im guessing they found a cheaper ball boy

That is fine but if I am going to get into a battle of wits with regards to building a foundation for winning football here in Cleveland, I am going to trust the guy that did it not once, but TWICE. And he was front and center on those rebuilding projects. Coach, president, whatever - he has much more experience and worthy of more trust than Mangini.

So you can throw around the term "morons" all you want, it still doesn't change the fact that if given a choice, most "non-moron" fans trust the guy with more experience and hands on decision making skills turning around a franchise.

I don't blindly trust him, but I am no going to beat the guy up for sacking a coach who lost 22 games in 2 seasons here.

Ok.....like I said I'm rooting for him too. But he is part of 1 losing season here in place where you only get 2. Now I ask what has he done to this point that you brag to people about? I'll wait........

Holmgren didn't set a time line at all. The 3 winnable games that Cleveland lost under Mangini set the time line, as did going 2-6 to end the season.

  • Of course I'm in the minority, but I wanted Mangini to have more time. The revolving door of coaches is bad for a team. Sometimes, you need stability. The Titans Jeff Fisher has gone through several down seasons, but their management sticks with him because he's the right man for the job. Belichick wasn't given enough time and neither was Mangini

Again.....I ask what has MH done that has you all excited? His past as a COACH?.......congrats! Brought Delhomme and paid him 7 mil?......congrats! Fired mangini?.......congrats! If he decides to coach I understand your excitement, but to this point he's done nothing as PRESIDENT! Seattle through him out like yesterdays garbage just like he did our coach. Tells me he has some question marks to answer. Justified or not doesn't matter........the mangini excuse is over........its all on him now!

Regardless I hope he succeeds for the sake of the team but there is no free passes for past accomplishments!

  • I would like to settle all arguments about what wins championships. It is points. If your team has more than the other team you win, whether (1) they were scored on offense or defense; (2) whether your coach is named Mangini, Holmgren, Lombardi, Gruden etc and (3) whether your coach is a classles slug or a classy lad.

No Seattle didn't throw him out, go read up on it.

And what is it with all these goofy fans who didn't like the firing acting like those who support Holmgren are all giddy with laughter over the move, or really excited now that it happened? I mean is this degrading into a juvenile argument in Homeroom or something?

Holmgren has done this before. I suppose you're going to tell me Philly threw out Heckert likes yesterday's garbage as well. Sometimes I think Cleveland wants a winner so bad that they fear it, so anytime something happens to take them our of their comfort zone they criticize it. Well I for one want more points on the board and our QB developed, and the WCO under this FO is the best thing I have heard in a while.

    Holmgren (WCO) - President

Haskell (WCO) - Sr Adviser to President

    Heckert (WCO) - General Manager

Sandusky (WCO) - Dir of Player Personnel

Spytek (WCO) - Dir of College Scouting

Gilbertson (WCO) - Dir of Pro Personnel

All of these guys came from winners, and the have worked either for Holmgren or Heckert. They have experience drafting for the Seahawks and Eagles, both of whom run the WCO.

Unless Eric Mangini was going to magically produce an offense that ranked above 32nd (2009) and 29th (2010) there was going to have to be a philosophical change in offense, and that means Mangini would have to be in charge of an offense he knew nothing about.

  • Mangini will make a great coordinator. HE is still not HEad coach ready, just like RAC. RAC is proving his worth with KC and Im sure when Mangini gets hired as a DC people will respect him again.

No, no, no. Your missing the point. I'm fine with Holmgren and the entire staff. I was one of the ones who saw the new brand of football this year and understood what was happening with this team. Quite frankly don't understand how people missed it. I sat through some of these games going damn if someone could draw 2 defenders on these pass plays they could really work. I saw a touch of holmgren that wasn't here last year. But excluding the seahawks name one team in the playoffs roster to roster we should be better than. The talent isn't here. That's Heckert's job(as far as I know) and he did well in the draft and some good trades as well.

But beyond that MH has done some eyebrow raising shit since he got here. Jake Delhomme.....really......that's the one thing that pisses me off the most. I don't want to seem too negative about him, but he wanted to go back to Seattle instead of this job and they said NO THANKS! Oh and you can buy the "time with the family" thing, but in this case it meant "it was say this or get fired". They wanted him nowhere around the FO and that scares the shit out of me. This "in Mike we trust" bullshit is ridiculous! Your a Browns fan, we have seen enough shitty years to say "trust no one until its earned"!!

Alright now stick with me........I like Mike. I hope he works out. Minus the Delhomme signing everyone did good on the staff this year. When you play hard every game and have a chance in the end knowing every analyst in the biz picks you as worst team before the season started, then you know your progressing. So in the end everyone should get another year of trust. But nope. Firing EM sends the message that this season was a complete failure, which it wasn't unless your a bandwagoner. So by doing so MH is saying 1 of 2 things: EM never had a chance or instant success is required. So I will hold him to the same standard. Win or get the xxxx out!

It is not this simple. He is not saying W-L record is the reason Eric was fired, you are.
