NFL Culture

Locked The Browns Board

  • I have only followed football closely since 1999. But this is it. This is the culture of the NFL. Teams like the Steelers, Ravens, and Patriots will always have success and will never have losing seasons ever again. Teams like the Browns, Bills, and Lions will always be at the bottom. They will always lose everything. I dont see any reason to think otherwise. The culture of the NFL will be this way forever. Screw rebuilding. We will always be in last place. I'm sick of it. But we will have to live with it till we die. The days of the 80's are gone. Forever.

ok, i've sat back long enough and watched people try to cheer you up and make you believe. now it's time for tough love.

first of all, let me say that i respect your opinion and usually like reading your posts. you're a smart guy and it shows. i like having you on this board.

that being said: stop bitching. i'm sick and tired of the "poor me" attitude that some browns fans have. so our team is bad and we struggle to win. so what? that doesn't mean that we have to stop believing in them. it doesn't mean that we need to give up on them. crying about how we will never make it won't solve anything. i do believe that we will make it and when we do it will be glorious. this poor me crap needs to end now amongst browns fans. the negativity is sickening.

The lions are on an upward trend with smart drafting. They are not there yet because they have too many miles to travel to catch up with their divisions elite. But if they stick with their coach and the system they have a chance of doing it. Same goes with us. We are changing coaches too often to implement a system. And without a system we will not be able to compete. The Ravens, The Steelers all have a system. That system allows them to make clearer choices. We are too confused to acheive anything.

Lions fans suffer worse than us. They never ever even get a glimpse of success. Even Barry Sanders era wasnt amazing.

Face it, we will always lose.

I don't want to hear about Detroit fans suffering. They have 3 other sports teams in recent history that have won championships!

At times I feel the same way. I've used the analogy many times that watching this team is like watching the movie "Ground Hog Day." Same shit over and over! I'll bet there will be yet another "QB controversy" this year. It really makes you wonder if the NFL is truly the parity that they profess. At any rate, I'm still a fan, and will remain hopeful, but it is quite frustrating. I hope that they finally got this thing right. I'm willing to be patient with the progress. But I need to see consistent progress. I want to see our record improve EVERY year! None of this moral victory bullshit! I want our record to start showing the improvement in terms of more Ws than Ls!

  • The Pats, Steelers, and Ravens wont always dominate. Belichick and Brady wont always be around. The Steelers without Polyhairdo, Harrison, and Big gay would not be the same team. They will eventually fall, they just have good players/coaches right now. If the Browns had a boat load of stars like those teams then they would dominate.

THe thing about the Steelers''..when they have a bad year...it's 8-8 or 9-7..then they bounce back to 10-6 then 12-4..

I can't remebr when they had a below 500 season??..

A .500 season for the Browns is worth getting a Boner on for 😍

Are you that young? Or just that dumb? Are you out of your Pampers? The Steelers were 6-10 in 2003. Were you bothering to watch football then or are you only like just now 10 or 12 years old.

The Browns were 10-6 just 3 years ago. Again, were you not alive and living in America?

On another thread you remarked something about "ancient history". Apparently, ancient history to you is anything over 2-3 years ago.

  • Why would you be a fan if you don't derive fun from it? No one forces you to be a fan. If it's going to depress you, spend your time somewhere else for goodness sake.

It could be worse, a lot worse. You could be a Steeler fan, married to your first cousin, and your mom could be pregnant by your son. Ray Stevens wrote this song about Steeler fans.

  • Cleveland continues on a downward spiral because there a stability issues..Lets fix it quick..5 coaches in 10 years,,anew savior who by the way will bail if a better opportunity arises..just my gut feeling..NE, Pittsburgh..they don't run coaches off every 24 months..They give them time..not here though..pathetic really and now we start over...again and again and again..GROUND HOG DAY..at least Bill Murray is funny...The Browns are not funny..just the laughing stock..depressing

This board is overrun by kids anymore. Christ, Bottlegate to them was like an ancient memory and to you and I it was like yesterday.

Not impressed. Some of these threads look like dialogue from the movie 'Bad Boys' with Sean Penn.

Here is a nice link to the Steelers records over the years. Warning: Please advise the Steeler fans on the board to not look any lower 1971.

Thanks for all of your opinions. It was a depressing night but I am over it.

Firstly, I am 20 and an adult just like the most of you. I was at bottlegate and the spetrum of human brain activity and fuction ranges from age 11 to age 20, so the perception of thought is broader, producing a realm of lost time. Hence why a 20 year old believes that when they were 11, it was ancient history.

Secondly, I need to ask you old timers something. When you rooted for the Browns in the 1960's they were on fire. Then in the 1970's everything went to hell, like it has in the 2000's. Before the Brian Sipe days, did you have this same thought process? Were there different factors? Otherwise, this is the lowest point in Cleveland Browns franchise history.

Thirdly, don't tell me I can't be a fan. I'm gonna bitch if I want to bitch. Thats the beauty of it. So shut the hell up.

    Thanks 🙂

It's when the fans stop bitching, and become apathetic. That's the problem! And I really hope that apathy isn't setting in like it has with the Indians, and soon the Cavs. I feel for ya! I have a 7 year old who has only seen one winning season with the Browns (2007). I at least can hang my hat on the 80s teams, as they were in the mix as a contender, but just couldn't quite take that next step. The only thing I can preach to him right now is loyalty to his hometown, and why it's important to stick with your home teams.

Exactly. I feel like I have it worse than others sometimes because all I have known is failure. At least the elder group has tasted success.

    How about you ban me?

  • So we had the DA/BQ rivalry. We've got the Mangini/Holmgren thing brewing. Now it looks like we're going to have to deal with the old timers/young juvenile rift.

For the record, I'm 21 years old. I grew up with my grandparents until my freshman year of high school. Then I moved in with my father, a diehard Brown since '55, and I've been taking care of him ever since. I am a hybrid if there ever was one. I had reat responsibility thrust upon me at a very young age, and I was never allowed to bitch and moan. I'm a young man with the mentality of a much older person....on most days. But I'm also still a 21 year old. So I'm going to have to side with both parties on this argument.

For us youngins', all we've seen has been turmoil and defeat. It's hard to look at the silver lining, because there hasn't been any. We don't remember the good ol' days. Just when I was starting to put together memories of the Browns, they disappear. Then, they come back, and haven't been anything worth bragging about since. I can only trust people when they say it will turn around, because I've never seen it.

But at the same time, I embrace this organization for what it is, was and will be. I know our history. I've heard about the glory days, and my father tells me every day what it was like watching them win...and win...and win. I know we're on a rough slide right now. But I'm staying strong, and everyone else is too. And that's going to make those 10-6, 11-5, 12-4 seasons all the sweeter when they finally starting rolling. Knowing that I didn't throw in the towel will prove to myself that I'm a diehard, a true Brownie. And that's what I have to look forward to during these shit years.

So, in closure, both of you shut up and root for the Browns.

In bold is the truth! No doubt. That is why I haven't stopped rooting for them. I will always root for the Browns, simply because they are the home team! But watching our division rival continue to win, while we're in what seems to be constant rebuild is frustrating. Not to mention that we have to constantly hear the bullshit from their fans!

and hey, if you still seem a bit down.........i got a terrible towel you can have to start your Steeler fandom. (seriously, i'd send you one)

Sorry, but I'd stop watching football all together before I'd EVER root for Pittsburgh. Just being honest. As for the draft... drafting high hasn't exactly helped us either. Only now are we starting to see the process change with bringing in guys like Haden, Ward, and even McCoy, and Alex Mack the previous year. I'm still on the fence about the Hardesty draft only because of his history of injuries, but I'm hoping that he can make a full recovery and be a nice counter to Peyton Hillis. It's not so much high drafts, but smart drafts.

Sorry, but I'll get the last word in. Be thankful you weren't born in Cinci, and have to put up with a REALLY crap owner, like Mike Brown. The guy is so tight with his money he squeaks- and the Carson Palmer episode is just one in a long line of blunders he's made. And on the bright side, the Bungles two Super Bowl visits are living proof that blind squirrels occasionally find acorns- and the Browns are long overdue to find theirs. Or perhaps you would rather be a Raiders fan, who's only hope is Al Davis dies- and soon?

At least Randy Lerner isn't afraid to spend money on the Browns- let's hope he's spent it wisely on Mike Holmgren and Tom Heckert. Time will tell.

and hey, if you still seem a bit down.........i got a terrible towel you can have to start your Steeler fandom. (seriously, i'd send you one)

Are they flushable? Send us a few hundred, we'd love to use them for toilet paper.
