Your Personal 3 Round Mock Draft

The Browns Board
43 22 3.8k
  • Jones may very well end up picked before Green, I wonder about Green's elusiveness compared to Jones' quickness and elusiveness to get open.

Getting Houston or Beal in the second round would be cool, but I figured before they would be picked in the first round, or top of the second

before the Browns pick. Who knows. It's fun though, because most all of us will be wrong like every other year. The first rounder is so much easier...

  • My personal 3 round draft:

The reincarnation of Deacon Jones to rush the passer.

The reincarnation of Dick Butkus to stop the run.

The reincarnation of Jerry Rice to catch passes.

This was supposed to be a "wish list" right? Well, those are my wishes.

  • I just want to get everyone's opinion on who they think we will draft with the first 3 picks. At this point we have a good idea of where most people will fall in the first, seond, thrid round so just jump in and give your picks and opinions.

Round 1: A.J. Green WR: I just have a really good feeling that Green won't be off the board by the time we come up to pick. I really think that there is a 75% chance that he is still on the board. A lot of mocks have him either going to Carolina (no one is ever going to take a WR with their #1) Buffalo (I think they have alot more holes that need filled other than WR) and Cincinatti (They have already said that Ocho will be back next season and they have an abundance of good WR they started to play at the end of the season. Clearly the best WR to come out in the draft in the past 5ish seasons. If he is gone we pick up a DE/DT depending on who is left.

Round 2: Cameron Heyward DE: Another guy who I think is going to fall to the second. He got alot of bad attetnion during the season from not living up to last year but showed in the Sugar Bowl that he has what it takes to play in tough games and he could just be great in the NFL. Would definatlly have to fall though since he is still considered a late r1st to early seond round pick. Another pick would be Tank Williams LB from TCU but only if we stayed in a 3-4. If we miss Green in the first and go DE I think we pick up Jonathan Baldwin at WR who is huge at 6'5" and only had a drop off of production this season because of horrible QB play.

Round 3: Cassy Mathews ILB/OLB: I think this pick in the 3rd round is a no brainer for us. Some will say that we need to look at CB first or RT but I think this is THE safest pick you could make in the 3rd round. He comes from a family full of pro bowl football players and is really where his brother Clay was physically as maybe a Junior in College so he still has some muscle to put on. He is good enough to play ILB if we stay 3-4 and play outside in a 4-3 and either way you look at it we need to shore up those positions regardless of what defense we end up running.

A slight update on my original 3 round wish list/mock draft.

First: At this point I feel that there are equal chances of the Browns either getting Green, Quinn, Dareus and even Peterson. I have actually grown more to think out of these 4 the biggest with bust potential is now Dareus the DT from Alabama just because of his potential for injury. Next would be Quinn who I have grown to like more over the past weeks and will more than likely love to get after the combine, but his bust potential comes not really from his 1 season suspension from the NCAA but his athletic skill not being able to transfer to suscess in the NFL. I feel that Peterson and Green are the most solid that just might fall to us with Peterson having a bit more bust potential but only by a small fraction.

Second: In the second round I have given up all hope for Heyward falling to us. I believe that we will go DT if we get either Green or Peterson in the first, or Wr if we go Dareus or Quinn. The is a large list of WR who could be gone in the late first, or taken in the second who's stock will change in the coming months so I am not really set who we would pick at that position, but as far as DT goes is I think we will get DT Drake Nevis out of LSU. He is just dominate and falls because he fits at 4-3 DT and not at a NT or DE in a 3-4 set.

Third: In the 3rd I don't think we will take Casey Mathews becuase it seems that on most mock drafts his stock has fallen since the NCAA season has ended. I think he will be there in the 4th and that would be a good place to take him. In the 3rd we could really go a bunch of different directions. I know there is a good OT availible who played for Flordia named Marcus Gilbert and started for 30 games over the past 3 years and has played both tackle positions. A very good run blocker. There is also a punch of WR that could still be on the board that could make solid impacts and another good 4-3 DT from USC named Jurrell Casey. He had a solid year with 67 tackles 5 sacks and an INT. His film is good, he just seems to slide off of tackles and does a great job of finding the ball carrier. Just like Nevis he is expected to fall because his talents and size constrict him to be just a 4-3 DT and the 3-4 teams won't be looking at him... hopefully.

    Heyward = another Vernon Gholston

The only reason gholston failed is because he was lazy which everyone said he wouldn't be in the pros but he still was also you cant just expect to run around people in the NFL which is the only move he had Heyward on the other hand is versatile since he can move around on the line and still be effect not to mention he has power and decent speed where gholsten just had speed

Is this an example of the quality of education in OH? Scary.

I hope you guys draft Green this high. That's no way to

build a team, which is why Browns will probably do it.

55 catches a year, 800 yards, in college. Great. Use

a super high first rounder on him, while the rest of

your team is in such a sorry state. 😆

  • Round 1 ) Robert Quinn - DE North Carolina

Round 2 ) Torrey Smith - WR Maryland, or Jonathan Baldwin - WR Pitt

Round 3 ) Jurrell Casey - DT USC

I keep hearing arguments about Quinn not playing at all last year... here's my response - Sam Bradford

The part of the team that is perhaps in the sorriest state is the Wide Receiving Corps, so it should be no surprise if the Browns try to fill in that major need in the draft. That said, I would prefer a DL or LB.

  • my mock draft is as follows:

Round 1: Patrick Peterson - I can see why everyone wants Green as I used to really want us to draft him but the more and more I think about it, I honestly don't want him if there are other certain prospects available (Bowers being the other). I see Green getting snatched by Cincy with T.O. and OchoCrapo being cut loose if they forgo drafting D-line and also the Broncos will pass on Peterson with Bailey just being resigned as they have many other holes to fill. A good example is the Lions drafting WR's in the first round and it overall doesn't affect their Wins and Losses even with Calvin Johnson. In any event Heckert runs this draft and in his history he only once drafted a receiver in the first round, Desean being a 2nd rounder with Maclin being the only one he drafted in the 1st round only after he built the Eagles to be a perennial playoff contender after several drafts and that was the 19th pick not the 6th. Impact wise Patrick Peterson is a phenomenal physical athlete that can start from day one, giving us a tandem we used to have in the days of Hanford Dixon and Frank Minnifield in the 80's. Peterson I consider is the top prospect in this draft that will effect this team not only in defense but also in the Win Loss column. Our secondary's starters would essentially be anchored with Haden, Ward, Peterson for years. People may point towards our front 7 being depleted, but I see that being fixed with later draft picks and smart moves in free agency. I also see our WR corps being bolstered with proven free agents such as Arizona's Early Doucet/Steve Breaston or Green Bay's James Jones with Robo and MoMass being reevaluated and used right. There's no way we can pass on Peterson and his talents as it's easier to find D-line prospects later in the draft while shutdown corners come once in a long while. IF he's gone I'm all for Amukamara.

Round 2: Marvin Austin - If Titus Young is somehow still on the board I totally expect Heckert to take him as he's perfect for WCO but he's raised his stock well into the first round and I'm still convinced they're going to reevaluate Robo, Mass, and the never used and hyped Carlton. I'm iffy with this pick as I am not sure how Holmgren and Heckert look at a Defenseive tackle with top ten talent with second round character issues and work ethic. He was rated in the top ten in 2011 mock drafts before NCAA ruled him ineligible for the whole year . This pick instantly makes our D-line that much better, but it's a gamble as he could be another Shaun Rogers only playing hard when we're winning. But i foresee him being coached well and believe his character flaws were blown out of proportion, total steal if he plays to his potential.

Round 3: Sam Acho - people will be screaming for Casey Mathews with this pick if not the second rounder we have, but he's being way too overhyped and gonna be drafted a round early just because of his brother. Love the family lineage, was screaming that we passed on his brother last year as Mangini kept trading down (for nothing), but Acho would be the best impact pick as Mathews is undersized for a 4-3 linebacker. Acho showed he can play OLB but DE in the 4-3 was his main calling at Texas. We did great on pressuring the QB last year but never really seemed to be able to get there and take him down consistently, Acho will push this issue over the edge.

I've seen him quite a few mocks where he is that low due to his light weight and being a bit of a hybrid. This is of course a draft where everyone falls to us. I can see Austin getting selected in the first round easy.

Von Miller is and OLB in both a 3-4 or 4-3 and he isn't projected to make a switch to DE in a 4-3. I understand why having a pass rushing DE sounds great and everyone knows that Miller is a fantastic rusher but he just doesn't have the weight or height combo that you need to play DE in a 4-3. It's kind of like how everyone says we should move Bernard to DE next year, he also doesn't have the weight or height for the position.

  • I see Von Miller starting at OLB but will also could be used as a de situation rusher. Just because we are switching to the 4-3 doesn't mean we wont have some form of the 3-4 at times such as the raiders.

In which case he would still be an OLB not a situation DE is he was on the outside during a form of the 3-4.

Not a good comparison imho. Gholston was a defensive end being converted to linebacker. Heyward is a defensive lineman period.

I just don't see holmgren allowing the team to spend the first three draft picks on defense. He said he wants a home run hitter which isn't going to come in the later rounds without a TON of luck

  • Which means Peterson in 1st round.
