My Opinion On The Cba And Lockout Situation
-
In the real world when dealing with union contracts usually the employees work under the old contract until there is a new one in place. Most company's do whatever they can to make sure there isn't a work stoppage because all that does is make their business lose money. In fact employees usually can use a strike as leverage to get a deal done. I don't understand why the NFL contract situation is handled so differently that the owners are actually forcing a work stoppage in the form of a lockout. This not only hurts the owners, but it hurts the players, the fans and is really bad for football period. I don't see why they don't just work under the old contract so the fans don't have to keep hearing about how there is not going to be a season because these millionaires and billionaires (who have lost touch with reality so much they fail to realize how fortunate they are to not only have to worry about this economy but getting rich doing something they enjoy) can't come to terms of how to split there 9 million dollar empire that the blue collar, hardworking fanbase pays for. I say forget this lockout crap and get back to what got these people were they are in the first place, and that's let the players and teams get ready to do their thing and work on the contract as time goes on. Who knows take away the deadlines, and pressure of having to get the deal done, mabe it gets done sooner. I know I'm dreaming I just think its gotten out of hand.

I mean I think everyone (including president Obama) agrees with you on this one. Honestly, as each day goes by I side more and more with the owners. I know it goes both ways, but the bottom line is these owners have a legitimate right to keep their books closed to the players. They offered more than enough information to show that they are losing money, and agreed to an extremely fair deal with a minimal rise in their cut due to rising expenses. The bottom line is Demaurice Smith (who looks like Elmer Fudd btw) is a greedy and selfish man who cares only about the players and not both sides of the equation, which includes us as fans. It's extremely clear to me now that it was the NFLPA's plan to de-certify the WHOLE time. It's truly pathetic, I lost all respect for the NFLPA after this crap. Every time i hear Smith talk it sickens me cause he's a snake.

While the nfl and its players union are special cased i definitely lean toward the owners view on things, the nflpa hastily choosing to decertify while being out less than a couple hundred million and being offered superior benefits for current and ex-players shows how corrupt this union has gone..
Unions came into existence to assure that workers had rights, fair pay and decent benefits, they did not come into power so the workers could receive 50% of the total take or even to make the workers rich, this union is biting the hand that feeds the workers and in an age to where the union can demand and claim it needs to see audited closed books of every organization before dealing or accepting a deal from the owners and or unfairly threatening to do harm to what the owners have built with the nfl if they refuse to open them warrants a scrutinizing look at the nflpa and the player lawsuits imho...
The cost of doing business is going up and the players union needs to except the facts and contribute back a little bit or they might find the owners fed up and themselves and the players replaced by people that love the game and may find themselves serving burgers at the local McDonalds or working at a warehouse for 8 dollars an hour..
With the union decertified the owners ought to man up and take the big hits in order to rebuild the league from the ground up and return football back to the way it was intended to be, unfortunately they dont have the balls to take the financial blows and the nflpa knows it..

i find it hard to feel sympathy for either side.
the owners owe the players more for making them billionares (more money, more benefits, better healthcare for life- not 3yrs worth, larger rosters and a 2nd bye week for a 18game season).
and the players owe the owners for making them millionares (making sure the league has enough $$$ to keep small market teams in the mix, rookie wage capp, and not bitching about playing 18 games.......i know what my boss would say if i told him i'm not working any more than i am now..............."there's the door, hang a help wanted sign for me on your way out".).
the only people i feel any sympathy for is the fans for having to listen to billionares and millionares bitch and moan about what they do and don't have.

Is this the real Gafreleets? Or an imposter? If so, this is the most intelligent thing you have ever said on this board. Keep it up.

Yep, no matter what, you can bet beer prices at the stadium go up another quarter, ticket prices go up $5, etc. You can also bet there are people like me who will go down & fill the stadium because we love our football, it's our outlet from day-to-day stuff.
The players aren't perfect, and their rep is a buffoon, but remember, the owners piled up a huge war chest to fight this crap & win. It's amazing to me that both sides know the vast majority of Americans are just getting by on median wages, and they don't see the ridiculousness of their own fight.

Yep this was my thinking when I posted this is that neither side can come to grips with reality long enough to realize how good they got it. Most people are living paycheck to paycheck out here and they can't agree on how to split $9 billion. I understand the players want what they feel they deserve, but what about what the fans deserve for being loyal enough to spend are hard earned money on overpriced memorabilia, tickets and stadium food just so we can root for are favorite team on Sunday. We deserve that outlet to be able to escape the reality of life for a few hours once a week in the fall months. I just hope this gets resolved soon because as much as I hate to see the summer end I can't wait to watch some football.
