  • Speculation drives me nuts! If we put stock in all the speculation, we'll be taking about 14 players with our 6th pick! LOL

I trust in Heckert et al to make solid decisions, so here's my speculation............

    "We'll see!!"

I think Dareus is the pick if he's there. Too bad there isn't a great qb list in this draft.

That's right - there are so many legit possibilities, we'll just have to wait and

find out how every single mock has been wrong.

exactly! mcshay isn't doing nothing but giving his opinion. it's not like heckert and co. sat down and shown him their draft board.

I don't worry about minor league stuff like underage drinking.

I mean really, who didn't drink beer before they were 21???

Same with smoking some pot. It's illegal, but who here hasn't.....I have.

Not since maybe 1972 when it was maybe $20 a ounce, but I have.

$20 was for no stems and seeds....a good number of flower tops.

What does a ounce of weed go for these days??

Not that any of you buy it of course, but some might know from the friend of friends friend. 😉

$200 0r better...Im just sick of cleveland teams taking flyers on guys with injury histories...Hardesty,Suggs...Courtney browns...xxxx that shit!

In fairness, I don't recall Brown having a injury history before he was drafted.

    Hardesty....I agree...a risk pick being a 2nd rounder.

Suggs?? I don't remember the exact round in which he was selected, but it was far enough back I think the risk/reward starts to balance out.

No doubt about it, the only way to turn things around, then keep them turned around is you need your first two picks to pan out to be at least solid players. You hope for better but as long as they become solid pro players who could start for the better majority of teams in the league, you'll be OK.

If you miss out on many of those, as we have, you have to rely on pure luck some of your 4th rounders turn in to really good players for the position drafted...and that doesn't happen very often....as the Browns and it's fans can attest.

  • Speak for yourself, Peen. I've never touched the stuff.

But I agree, those are minor issues. Not everybody is going to be perfect. I'd rather have the talented guy who drank underage in college than the less talented guy who's an upstanding citizen in public but beats his wife behind closed doors.

  • Holmgren had one of the all time great defensive ends at Green Bay and it looks like he might see the same thing in Bowers. If they are right it will be a great pick. The Browns have said that they need starters in the draft so they might need to take some risks in order for that to happen

  • If i remember correctly there was a issue regarding Hardesty's full disclosue of the significance of his knee history and the pick came back to bite

the Browns in the azz, at least short term. hopefully, he is well enough this year to make a contribution. i too would shy away from Bowers because of his

knee, but if he passes the the physical then he can't be overlooked. re smith, H & H have stated that character issues won't necessarily prevent them

from pulling the trigger on any choice so his backgound may not be that meaningful in the big scheme of things.

Bpeen, I've got to admit i dabbled in the sticky bud, but like Slick Willy i never inhaled. 😳

  • fwiw, the Jets brass deferred to the medical staff and allowed their docs to make the call on another D-linman out of Clemson in back in 1988, which is how we snapped up Michael Dean Perry...

  • I would be more cautious with somebody with a history of drinking related incidents than I would be of a pot smoker. But in a society we live in there's more ramifications for a failed drug test than there is for raping a underage girl in a bathroom.

The best judge of character and life direction is to watch the way he judge's someone else.

I didn't speak for anybody. I simply asked the question, who here hasn't?

I figured maybe some haven't, but also figured the number would be pretty small.

At any rate, we agree it isn't a major problem unless the guy is a big time drunk or still blowing smoke.

  • I think you guys are worrying too much. Eric Wright had off the field issues, and he was good until last year. They said he'd be a first rounder talent wise, same situation as Jimmy Smith. Same situation with Bowers as TJ Ward. We got a great safety even though there were injury issues. I would be super excited with Smith, but neither of these picks will happen if Peterson is there at our pick. And I doubt we take Bowers if Green is there, or maybe Dareus or Fairly.

The chances of us taking Bowers I feel are very slim. Either A ) He wont fall to us or B ) Someone we like more will

No matter who we take, we are taking a risk. These guys have never played an NFL down. Our best option is to try to trade for more picks(I am not pimping this idea, just saying it would give us more opportunity to find a player that works). Saying if we have three picks and 33%(1/3) will work out, then if we have 6 from trades and 33%(2/6) work, we're gaining a player.

I still want PDub or Green, not a trade.

I personally think that the safest DE picks are Watt and Jordan. Both guys have not had HUGE seasons like Fairley and Bowers, but they have had several season with good production. I would be all for falling back a few picks if one of the QB's fall to us and picking up either Watt or Jordan.

i agree. i just don't know to what extent his off field problems extend. i was just saying we don't want to draft the next pacman jones. yeah great player but couldn't help but go out at night and 'make it rain' considering you've got a nightclub in your basement, that's just dumb. dumb all over. and a little ugly on the side. (zappa ref.)

the impact DE is crucial we just gotta make sure the dude is gonna last his rookie season and far beyond. but like stated above, i think heckertt knows what he's doing.
