Marvin Lewis Says Cam Newton Has "it" Factor

  • if by "it" he means a huge ego and B-U-S-T written on his forehead, then yes.....i agree.

oh, and if the bungles aren't the experts at talent evaluation and scouting then i don't know who is.

  • In all seriousness though, none of these QBs impress me at all. I would take a chance at some of the late 1st round- early 2nd round QBs, but not Gabbert or Newton with the top 5.

Kiper and McShay have Gabbert and Newton gone by 5. What a joke. Oh well, that just means more choices for us!

Yeah im loving i hope someone takes Jake locker in the top 5 as well just more choices for us

Totally disagree on Newton. Far too many get up in arms about the wonderlic. He has all the tools to be elite. I just don't like his chances in the AFC north.

so did jamarcus russel. but if your head isn't screwed on straight and you're already talking about how you're an "icon" and an "entertainer" before you even get drafted, intstead of worrying about mastering your craft, then you'll never be an elite QB.

    Gabbert gone by 5? yes.

Newton? no, but he will go in the top 15. even though he shouldn't get touched till rnd 3 at least.

I don't think you know what a mock draft is then.

It's not who SHOULD be drafted at that spot, it's who will. As overrated as I think Cam Newton is, I (as well as many pundits) believe he'll be gone by 5 because some teams are just that stupid.

Trust me, I hope he's gone by 5. It just means we have a 1 in 2 chance we'll land Peterson or Green.

  • All the mock drafts i have seen so far have Newton and Gabbert both in the top 5 which means good things for the Browns, Peterson will more than likely fall to us...As may Green...

Which means we still may be able to trade back with SF and acquire more picks while still getting Green , what a great draft that would be

Dude Jarmacus Russel had a bunch of question marks coming out of the draft but Al Davis was dumb enough to draft them. He had the strange release, questionable work ethic, weight problems etc. He had a couple of games that drove his stock WAY up and once again Davis was dumb enough to draft him. Now I'm not claiming that Newton is the second coming Donovan McNabb before injuries ultimately got the best of him but he's going to be good. He's also 10 times the athlete of Russel and his "character concerns" in my opinion are pretty damn minimal. Every time I've seen him interviewed I've come away impressed because he's a impressive individual. How many players in the NFL aren't cocky?

Wonderlic for a QB is actually plays a larger factor than you think, and it plays an even bigger role in the WCO which the Bengals will be running next season.

I disagree. As much as I dislike Jamarcus Russell, he was almost the perfect prospect coming out of college. He could throw off his left foot, he would throw lasers 80 yards, and he had good accuracy. His 3 step was decent and he had the body of a defensive end. The issue with him was never his ability but rather his will. He didn't have the encyclopedic knowledge of the game the same way Manning did, despite all of his physical tools. And of course, he didn't feel like working out during the off-seasons rendering a very, fat man.

That very same question is what hinders Newton. Does he put football above all else? As a fellow black male (half black, but whatever), I'd love for him to succeed and be the only successful superstar QB playing today --aside from dog killer-- but he does have some question marks. He's athletic, but he's not Michael Vick athletic. He's got a fairly strong arm, but he doesn't exactly throw darts like Stafford and Cutler. The main thing with him is how quickly he can make reads and how fast he can process a playbook. Those questions are still up in the air.

  • I gotta admit he has scary potential at the next level if he does actually become a good QB, but nobody ever knows how good a QB will be at the next level it is such a crap shoot..You can ask the best QB eveulators in the world and they will tell you they still cant figure out who will be great or who will bust...

If Cincy does take him nothing aganst the dude but i hope he dosent become something special, i wouldnt wanna see him twice a year

ok this has been said many times but, Dan marino i think scored a 16 on the wonderlic. not saying cams the next marino. just saying to not put so much stock in the test.

if cam goes to the Bengals well than we can hope hes not an elite quarterback. pretty much will mean unless soemthing rediculas happens peterson and/or green will fall to us.

As far as the Wunderlich goes- yeah- there's exceptions to the rule like Marino- but teams like to see at least a 20 on the test for a QB. Anything lower is a red flag.

Don't want to see Newton fail- but if the Bengals take him, well hope for Akilli Smith part two- another one year wonder from Oregon. And if the Bengals don't grab a qb, chalk it up to another monumentally dumb move by Mike Brown. I sincerely believe Carson Palmer isn't kidding about retiring.

    It's pretty obvious what he's doing, it's business-201.

Carson's camp hopes that the Bengals draft a QB (or trade for one once the CBA is is finalized) so that the Bengals have two high-paid QBs on staff and are strenuously forced to trade the one who doesn't want to be there in the first place.

Will he retire? Sure. But i'm calling bluff and given how cheap Mike Brown is, it's a damn good bluff.

  • I Guess Marvin Lewis think Cam Newton has that "IT' factor go figure with the Bengals and there dysfuntical team..

Well id be very pleased if they did indeed draft him, that'd leave the Browns with alot more options to have at #6

Lewis say Newton Has 'IT' factor

Let's just say I got some additional inside info today- although I can't name my source- and it confirmed what I've been saying for months- Palmer is NOT bluffing.

The guy is set for life, lives humbly, already has one torn ACL, and doesn't need or want any more of Mike Brown's BS.

Fair enough. But that doesn't necessarily mean everything I predicted won't happen either.

I'm sure he doesn't want to retire. We'll just have to wait and see.

  • Im not sure what to think about Palmer, i really thinks he still wants to play it just isnt for the Bengals anymore...

Im also thinking he may just walk away if they refuse to trade him and he may very well be set for life...

I understand when i hear Bengal fans get upset about Mike Brown and his pride can over weigh his decisions on certain things...

Instead of trying to make your team better and try an acquire picks for a Player who dosent wanna play for you anymore you'd rather let your pride get in the way and have nothing to show for him...Dosent make sense to me at all

Well, also perhaps Mike Brown may see it as this: If he refuses to trade Palmer and Palmer puts himself on the shelf, then MB makes out because he doesn't have to pay him, and he makes out because he would also deny Palmer's services to any other opponent in the NFL, and what does he lose?: Probably a mid round draft pick which he figures his staff would just kcuf up anyway, and, the rights to Palmer's services. But he figures that he finished in last place with Palmer, why not finish in last place without him and save that money.

MB of course would CERTAINLY be a PRIME supporter of the rookie wage scale.
