Robert Quinn Vs Daquan Bowers
-
Quinn. He's got that crazy athleticism and burst from the snap that Bowers doesn't have.
Btw, don't use age as a barometer for talent. There are many players that peak much earlier than others. A good way to estimate one's potential is their body of work at every level + work ethic + what skill sets they can add to their repetoire (mixed in with athleticism, but that may not always be the case).
At any rate, I'd take Quinn over Bowers, but I would prefer to have neither. If Robert Quinn were to rely on his speed and quickness in the NFL, he wouldn't dominate the same way (like he did -- in may I add, a weak conference -- in the ACC) Jason Pierre Paul would. He's not on that level.

You have to think this. Both of these guys came from a fairly cup cake conference. They didn't play against the best teams all the time. Both have serious flaws in their film as well (Quinn is overly predictable and Bowers get's alot of his sacks against TE's and blown blocking assignments).
Compare each players best season.
You can see a fairly big difference in sacks when you look at their multi sack games. Quinn only has 3 multi sack games, two of which are 3 sack games, but the toughest team was Virgina, the other two being Duke and East Carolina. Bowers has 5 multi sack games (expected since he had 4.5 more sacks than Quinn) but his competition was only slightly better (had a 3 sack game against Maryland, but had two sack games against teams like North Texas and North Carolina State).
Quinn get's points for only being 20, but I feel like he is a bigger injury threat with his past tumor (which could be career ending if it came back) as compared to Bowers knee which is minor and projected to not be a reoccurring injury.
I know that the object is to get smaller faster ends, but Quinn was about useless in run support in college, and I see him only being able to rush the passer in the NFL (why get that when we already have Benard who is close to the same size and speed anyway). Bowers has th ability to rush the passer as a true 4-3 end and also not get blasted off the line when being run blocked. I feel like Bowers is the safer pick than Quinn... and I really don't want either. I feel like it would be safer to take Fairley or trade back and get Watt or Jordan.

I don't call 3 tackles and 1 sack domination and it was also two seasons ago when no one had ever heard of Castonzo... heck one heard about him until this years combine.

i beg to differ.
not sure if youre a college football head and its cool if youre not, but costanzo was a big name since December 2009. he was projected to be a top 15 pick at one point.

I'd also like to interject in regards to Bowers' knee.
1. no agent in his right mind would say that his player's knee is anything but fine
2. as someone who's been playing soccer at a advanced level (junior CDN 16-soccer team, under-19 canadian national team, and now U-21 CDN national team), i've had teammates from around the world come through doors with mixed physicals. Everyone team/club has different standards as to what a pass/fail is.
Not saying his knee isn't fine, but just a penny for your thoughts.

Yes and agent will say anything, but if this agent was saying something that wasn't true then why wouldn't a GM, or even the league doctor that looked him over say otherwise. He has been checked time and time again and has had physical's done the the highest medical professionals in the NFL and they have all said the same thing. His knee is fine. His knee is zero issue. Also ya Bowers had a lot of sacks against TE's, but it is ridiculous to assume that is where all of his sacks came from.
As it is I don't want either of these guys at this point, but if I would have to choose it would be Bowers. I know Bowers doesn't have a ticking time bomb in his head, has a solid weight and speed, can hold himself against the run, and doesn't rely on one move all the time. You can't just use athleticism to play DE and that's all Quinn has.

You expunged the mixed reports that are coming out. Otherwise, his knee issues would never have been a problem. Like I said, I've seen first-hand many team doctors and different older players (now pro in the MLS or in Europe) get different standards as to what a clearance is. Never 100%, but it doesn't mean there's a huge problem either.
100% would mean that he's never had a knee-injury or quirk. But that's just semantics, so I digress.
And in regards to Quinn, it's stupid to say his head is a ticking time-bomb. Using one's tumor as a barometer for altering balance in the Brown's decision is the same thing as a player getting into a freak accident off the field or on it. That point is moot so i'm not sure why you keep reiterating it.
All in all, I don't mind either, but I wouldn't be ecstatic the same way if the Browns drafted Green, Peterson, or Von Miller.

I'm with Hillis, Bowers is bigger and stronger and won't be a liability in the run game. There's questions about his knee but there's alot more ?'s about Quinn. He hasn't played football in 2 years, there's no way anybody's gonna draft him in the top ten. I wouldn't touch him until the 2nd round, Zombo might touch him tonight...LOL Quinn fag

That's fair.
But right now, yes, there are teams considering him in the top 10. I can almost guarantee he'll go top 15. He was awesome in his pro day. The whole knee issue and simply dismissing it isn't smart, but saying Quinn has more question marks is a fair assessment.

He will go top 15, but I hope the Browns are not stupid enough to jump on him even if they trade back. And I'm not completely dismissing Bowers knee either, I'm just quirked with how even though it has been shown his knee has healed very well and that it's really not that serious of an injury, that his stock continues to fall and he is passed by people who have injury concerns of their own. Darius and Jones have are always injured. Yea Darius only missed a two game last season and Jones didn't miss any, but both are known for being injury prone, nothing really big but always having something. Hell Jone's gets a screw in his foot and his agent says he will be fine and people take him for his word, while Bowers agent shares documented medical facts that have already been shared and people still talk about how Bowers is going to need another surgery.

I completely understand, but knees are much much worse than foot injuries.
And I'm an Alabama fan, so don't get me started on how I think Dareus and Jones are overrated right now lol.

Teams throw out speculation about character, injuries and such to gets guys to drop to them. Since Bowers appears to have all the focus on him right now in that regard along with Fairley, my two cents would say there highly regarded. You never really know, but that could be a factor.

Ya but at the same time Jone's foot injury required a screw making it fairly serious and it's also his 2nd or 3rd different injury.

I dont really have a thing for ethier of them and really hope we land ethier Green or Peterson, but i just have feeling they'll both be gone which i really hope im wrong...Which lead me to this question and right now Quinn is up 70% to Bowers 30%..
I think they both have alot of likes and dislikes about them, but i see Quinn as a better fit for what were trying to do...We need quick fast DEs that get upfield fast think Indy how they have Freeney and Mathis, thats what were trying to look for here...Now im sure that Bowers is alot faster than his 4.89 but even fully healthy id say he runs a 4.68 or something as oppossed to Quinn's 4.59...I guess if i had to perfer id like the faster quicker guy

For those knocking Quinn for his tumor it's well known that its benign and he goes and make sure there's no fluid building up every 6 months.. the tumor and the argument to not draft him becuz of it is pretty much moot.. he had big games against cupcakes as a SOPHOMORE.. the kid had plenty to build on his jr yr but since the ncaa is Retarded he's a risky pick now but i def think he's worth it at 6 if we cant get green or peterson.. he's bpa and he fills a need

A tumor (regardless if it is benign) is a huge issue. Doctors can not predict everything when it comes to tumors. The reason he goes every 6 months, because it cost too much to go every month. Alot can happen in 6 months. Plus a benign tumor CAN turn cancerous, or can just grow and stop randomly. My grandmother had a benign tumor that spread to an inoperable area that took her vision away. Anything can happen with these things so I wouldn't call it a moot point.
