Supplemental Draft
-
We mentioned the possibility of now former Florida cornerback Janoris Jenkins entering the 2011 supplemental draft Tuesday afternoon, just after Gators coach Will Muschamp announced on Twitter that Jenkins was done as a football player at the university.
Jenkins is moving quickly on that possibility.
According to SI.com draft analyst Tony Pauline, Jenkins is pursuing an agent to represent him for the supplemental draft, which typically takes place in July.
The Gators listed Jenkins at 5-foot-10 and 183 pounds, average size for a corner. A four-star recruit coming out of high school, Jenkins was an immediate starter at Florida and picked off eight passes in three seasons.
He was a first-team All-SEC selection in 2010.
Muschamp dismissed Jenkins from the team due to multiple marijuana-related arrests.
Many people had him as a first rounder this year. Would anyone be opposed to offering up a second or third(preferred) rounder for this kid. This would be assuming we dont draft a Patrick Peterson, Prince Amukamara in the regular draft. And if we do, there can't be any harm in throwing a 3rd or 4th in the ring if we do. Then we really could move Peterson to safety or whatever.

Jenkins is pretty good...but the pot is a red flag, especially since this was the 2nd time in a short period of time.
If he enters, I might take a flyer on him, but I wouldn't bid more than a 5th round pick.
If I got him that cheaply, it is worth the risk.
-
When will these guys learn? Anyway he is going to be a 4-5th round pick with top 20 talent. He is going to have to actually earn his money now. Id say a 4th would work for me, but im sure someone will snag him in the 3rd, such as Dallas.
-
I wouldn't be opposed dropping a 3rd on him if 1:we don't take a CB in this years draft, and 2: we don't make the rumors trade with the vikings where we give them next years 1st round pick.
Regardless Heckert and Holmgren will have a look at this guy and they will be the judge if he is worth picking up in the sup draft and I trust in their judgement. I think it would do this guy good to be paired across Haden again.
-
I would think I would be more inclined to pick him up if we give up our next years first this year. In reality, since Jenkins is a top 20 talent, if we got him our first next year wouldnt be near as important. On the flip side, if we would trade next years first, and then use, say a 3rd rounder on him. We are only left with 1 pick in the top 3 rounds.
It depends on how you look at it, but I know that Jenkins is a better talent than a 3rd rounder next year would be. I guess it depends on how much Heckert Holmgren and Shurmur like next years draft class.

I loved Bill Parcells term for guys like this. He called them "May Day in Moscow" because they had so many red flags flying around them.

Someone on the other board brought up a great point about this having some effect on the corners in this years draft. They said some teams may go ahead and pass on those boarder line first rounders like Brandon Harris, Aaron Williams, and possibly Jimmy Smith in hopes of getting lucky on getting Janoris Jenkins for cheap.
This makes sense, but still if we got Peterson in the first, many people see him as a safety. We could try and nab Jenkins with a 3rd or 4th and then movie him there. Our secondary would be set for ten years. Haden/Jenkins/Ward/Peterson We could still grab a good DL or WR in the second/third.
-
are we going to have supplemental draft this year? The only reason we have a draft this year is because it had been previously agreed to in the prior CBA, thus it must take place. Is the supplemental draft part of that? I'd assume so but I want to know if anyone has heard any different

I wouldn't touch Jenkins with a 10 foot pole. What would signing him say to your players who have stayed on the straight & narrow, AND what might he do with the "big bucks" in his pocket. Obviously, he has little or no respect for authority & rules.
No thanks on Jenkins. The potential price (Team chemistry) is just too high. Let Cinci or Oakland have him.

Weed guys are issues, but I don't know if they are considered total character problems. It depends what other issues they have going. How easily people forget, Cribbs got popped selling quarter bags out of his room in Kent. Then there is the Ballad of Warren Sapp.....
Regarding the Peterson to safety talk, it is ridiculous. He moves there ala the Woodson's after making an HOF caliber career for about 8 seasons at corner. His strengths are press coverage right now, not read and react or zone schemes. If we draft him, Jauron better have plenty of tight press coverage packages for he and Haden, with Ward in the box and old man Brown moving to FS.
-
Baloney. It's just not right to compare Cribb's ornery indiscretion, with Jenkins' behavior.
Enough with talent, despite the screwed up character. The Browns won't touch him -
he doesn't fit, regardless of how good a cb he was in college.
In the pros, with $$$, he'll screw up his career, and the team that tried.
They had to taser Jenkins, for cryin out loud. Baloney.
