Cleveland Browns Are Talking With Teams About Trading Draft Positions

CLEVELAND -- The Browns have always been receptive to trading down from the No. 6 pick and recently have amped up efforts to do so.
"We are talking to people about trading. I am not going into any more detail than that," Browns President Mike Holmgren told The Plain Dealer.
Houston reportedly is trying to move up from No. 11 to take Texas A&M linebacker Von Miller or LSU cornerback Patrick Peterson. Miller might be unreachable for the Texans, but Peterson could still be on the board at No. 5 (Arizona).
The Browns' chances of trading down would be enhanced if Peterson or Missouri quarterback Blaine Gabbert were still available when their turn came up.
Holmgren said he has not set a limit as to how far he would be willing to move down.
"But the deal has to be right," he said. "It has to make absolute sense to us, otherwise we take the player. I know we need other things, but we just take the player."
A year ago, Holmgren inquired to St. Louis about "pulling a Mike Ditka" and trading most of his draft to move up to No. 1 for quarterback Sam Bradford. There is nobody in this draft that enticing to the Browns.
"We're not going to go that way," Holmgren said of moving up.
He also said it's "unlikely" the Browns would offer their 2012 No. 1 pick to acquire an additional first-round pick this year.
Unless something in the labor dispute changes over the next 24 hours, the Browns are operating under the assumption that only draft choices can be traded in this year's draft.

good ol' pre-draft talk. gms and presidents say the darndest things. all speculation and all hypothetical talk. they're just moving pieces on the chess board to set themseleves up for draft day.

I would really like a trade down if Peterson and Green are both gone. If both are gone, that likely means that Gabbert(most likely) or Newton fell to us, because I think Dareus and Miller are top-5 locks. I think spot ten would be the best, because there is a better chance of us getting who we want, but pick 12 will likely yield a second rounder without us having to give up a 5th rounder or something to even out the points.
I can't remember when I was this excited for the draft. Maybe when we got Joe Thomas, even though I was a Peterson pimp, I am glad we skipped Peterson for Thomas.

This draft is different than any I can remember because there is no clear but favorite at any spot in the 1st round. All other years there was at least a #1 guy who u knew was going to be picked. I LOVE IT!

i can't wait for tommorrow! i have no idea what the browns are going to do. i think heckert and co. have done a great job of not showing their hand/creating a smoke screen to throw everyone off and keep everyone guessing. it's going to make tommorrow night a very anticipated event for us browns fans!!

We'll see what happens between now & Saturday. I feel like a little kid on Christmas Eve!

I read that Dallas is also trying to trade up to draft Von Miller.
-
With a trade down, to still get Prince, who is more NFL cb starter ready, immediately - than Peterson,
that would be huge.
I have no freakin idea what's going to happen in the first round. Amazing. LOL
I'm bettin they do at least one trade down, maybe two.Randall Cob in round two.

i wonder if the browns will be one of the teams to hit big in this years draft??

NFL Network has been reporting that a deal (depending on available players) is pretty much in place for the Browns to trade all the way down to 27 with the Falcons.
I don't know how much to believe but they are making it sound like the top five is looking like this:
1. Newton - for sure unless someone blows them away with a last minute trade.
2. Miller
3. Dareus
4. Green though Cincy would like to trade
5. Peterson though Zona would like to trade

If that is true we literally get there whole draft, or all of the important picks. We would also get their 1,2,4 ish for next year, but if there is no draft next year we could be screwed.

Great trade!!!! Great Compensation, we are not a player or two away so this helps alot. Now we can go and get our DE and WR, and OT in the first two rounds!

What did you guys get in compensation? I just got home and saw that you traded down to 27. Trade down in my opinion is perfect for the Browns. I just can't find a break down for draft picks/players. ESPN doesn't have anything listed. Crazy that Locker went to the Titans that high.

swap 1st's (6th and 27th) w the Falcons plus their 2nd and 3rd or 4th this year and their 1st and 4th next year.
I like it!
but, if there is no Nfl next 2 seasons and that shit doesn't carry over I'm gonna be violent..

1. Why would there be no NFL for the next two seasons? Do you really think the NFL would allow this to happen? Someone would certainly fold at that point. Things will be back to normal with a new deal in place this year.
2. One hell of a deal for the Browns. Ridiculous really. Great move.
