Is It Possible...

Is it possible that the Browns took the Atlanta deal because they were looking to pick up another first next year to position themselves to make a run at Luck in the event McCoy falls on his face? If they really were thinking about Bradford last year, then Luck seems way more possible with our picks next year. I assume if McCoy fails we will be in the top 10 again and I would like to bet Carolina has a good chance of being No. 1 again. They would be willing to trade out almost certainly. Considering Shurmur and Holmgren sport wood for QBs it wouldn't surprise me.

barring injury or HUGE dropoff in preformance luck is slated to go 1st overall next year.
so unless you guys are willing to sell the farm (or tank the season) to get him i don't think it's realistic.
plenty of quality FAs, but honestly i don't know why you'd think anything but mccoy is going to be a quality starter if not a star. (at least if he ever gets some WR help)

you don't make a trade like this thinking about what you can do with the picks the next year (other than hey, now we will have two picks next year, awesome!)
I can't 100% say they weren't think about Luck, as I am not them nor can I read their minds. However, I am 99.9% sure that they were not thinking about McCoy failing and getting Luck next year when making the trade.
Walking into choices with a "what if we fail" attitude is not going to help you make the right picks.

Maybe not luck, but to defiantly get us two play makers. With the 2 first rounder, if McCoy falls on his face which I think won't happen, we could trade those for the Luck pick. If not there are alot of good CB coming out and good WR's.

The trade was used to get more playmakers, we are still rebuilding and an extra 1st and 2nd helps

Greg Little could turn out as a playmaker. He has a high ceiling

What playmaker did we get?
I would argue that Sheard and Little are both potential playmakers on their respective sides of the ball.

The other problem is the first overall pick has such a high point value- you're going to have to give away the ranch to get it. Here's what it would cost- if next year was this year. The Browns have their own pick #6, and Atlanta's #24. To move up to first overall, it will cost both those picks, plus our second and fourth round picks. Still interested?
Plus if a qb needy team is sitting @ #1, (almost a certainty) they're not going to trade away the rights to Luck for even that.

Sheard was not a result of the trade.
Little is likely a project, the jury will be out on him for a "little" (hehe) while.
Good grief
