  • Here are the ones that have been answered correctly thus far:

#1 Bob 806 got the Cowboys. This is a partially correct answer

#2 Atlanta Hawks is right. Both Bob and sloburn got right.

#3 Bob got Vancouver Canucks right.

#4 sloburn got Memphis, Bob got Nashville. Both right, but still a partial answer

#5 Bob got SF/Oak in 89. There is another

#6 sloburn got the Yankees, Celtics, and Browns correct. The others were not

#7 Bob got it right with 11

#9 Between Bob and sloburn they got all the answers Colt, Raiders, Rams

#10 Browns got a partially correct answer with Oklahoma

Thus here is what we have left to answer:

#1 There is one other team tied with the Cowboys for most postseason appearances. Who?

#4 There is One other city among the final 15 besides Memph. and Nashville that has never had a title. Who?

#5 There is one other city besides NY and SF/Oak that had 3 or more teams make the finals in a single calendar year. Who?

#6 There is one other team that had a Four-peat besides the Canadiennes/Celtics/Yankees/Browns. Who?

#8 Has not been answered correctly

#10 More states have never had title team besides Oklahoma. Which ones?

  • Sharks have never won, so how can that not be right?

    @burgels said:

Sharks have never won, so how can that not be right?

That wasn't the question. The question is which one has now gone the longest in its existance without winning. The San Jose Sharks franchise has only been in existance since 1991. Bob806 got it right with the Vancouver Canucks who have existed since 1971 without a title.

Ergo the Canucks have gone much longer than the Sharks. 40 years vs.20

  • New York Islanders,

Excuse me. I missed this in Bob's answer. This is correct. The last Fourpeat team in Q #6.

The Edmonton Oilers did not Fourpeat, though they won 5 titles in the Gretsky era they most they won in a row was 2. The Flames and the Canadiennes broke up their string.

  • Thus here is what we have left to answer:

#1 There is one other team tied with the Cowboys for most postseason appearances. Who?

    Vikings and Cowboys

  • Here is some trivia about miscellaneous championship sports trivia. Give it a try:

    1. What NFL team or teams in their history have made the postseason the most number of times?

    2. Of the 8 NBA teams currently left in the playoffs, which one has gone the longest in its existance without a championship? (The 8 teams are: Lakers/Mavericks/Grizzlies/Thunder/Heat/Celtics/Hawks/Bulls)

    3. Of the 8 NHL teams currently left in the playoffs which one has gone the longest in its existance without a championship? (the 8 teams are: Redwings/Sharks/Canucks/Predators/Flyers/Bruins/Capitals/Lightning)

    4. Of the 15 cities represented by the 16 teams mentioned in the previous two questions, which of those cities have never won a title in any of the 4 major sports?

    5. On 13 occasions the same Metro region had 3 teams appear in the Finals of the playoffs in the 4 major sports in a single year. Eleven of those occasions that city was New York. What were the other 2 cities to have 3 teams appear in the Finals in a single year? (Note: for football count the year of the season, not the year that the SB may have been played)

    6. You have heard of the "threepeat", but in major sports history (NFL/AAFC/AFL/NBA/ABA/NHL/WHL/MLB), on 7 occasions there has occurred a Four-or-more-peat. In other words, a single team won the title in 4 or more consecutive years. I will give you two: the Montreal Canadiennes have done it twice in their history 1956-1060 and 1976-1979.

Name the other 5 teams who have performed the "Four-or-more-peat".

    7. How many times have the Lakers and Celtics met in the NBA Finals?

    8. Which 2 cities have met the most times in the Pro Football championship game (AAFC/AFL/NFL/SB)?

    9. Which NFL franchises have appeared in the Super Bowl representing 2 or more different cities?

    10. Which of the following states have never had a Professional Championship team in the 4 major sports come from that state? (NFL/AAFC/AFL/NBA/ABA/MLB/NHL/WHL)

    Rhode Island

    Utah

    Connecticut

    Kentucky

    Virginia

    Oregon

    Tennessee

    Oklahoma

Here is some trivia about miscellaneous championship sports trivia. Give it a try:

    Here are the final answers

    1. What NFL team or teams in their history have made the postseason the most number of times?

The New York Giants and the Dallas Cowboys have made the most postseason appearances in their history with 30 times each. Next is the Browns with 28, the Rams with 27, then the Steelers, Vikings and Packers with 26 each.

    2. Of the 8 NBA teams currently left in the playoffs, which one has gone the longest in its existance without a championship? (The 8 teams are: Lakers/Mavericks/Grizzlies/Thunder/Heat/Celtics/Hawks/Bulls)

The Hawks have gone since 1958 when they won the title in St. Louis. The next longest on this list is the Mavericks who were formed in 1980 and have yet to win a tile.

    3. Of the 8 NHL teams currently left in the playoffs which one has gone the longest in its existance without a championship? (the 8 teams are: Redwings/Sharks/Canucks/Predators/Flyers/Bruins/Capitals/Lightning)

The Vancouver Canucks have gone since their inception in 1970 with no title. Next are the Bruins who last won an NHL title in 1972, then the Capitals who were formed in 1974 and have nnever won a title.

    4. Of the 15 cities represented by the 16 teams mentioned in the previous two questions, which of those cities have never won a title in any of the 4 major sports?

    Memphis, Nashville, and Oklahoma City

In 1989 the SF/Oak/SJ area had three teams in the finals with the Giants and A'z meeting in the "Earthquake World Series" that year, and later the 49ers in the Super Bowl.

In 1980 Philadelphia had all 4 of its pro sports teams make the Finals, Phillies, 76ers, Eagles, and Flyers, but only the Phillies won. That is the ONLY time a city ever had all four teams in all 4 sports make a finals. Even NYC hasn't had that happen.

    The other Four-peaters are the 1936, 37,38,39 (4 years)Yankees. The 49,50,51,53,53 (5 years)Yankees. The Browns with 46-50 (5 years), The Celtics from 1959-1966 (8 years), and the 80-83 Islanders (4 years)

    7. How many times have the Lakers and Celtics met in the NBA Finals?

They have met 11 times, but it won't happen this year.

    8. Which 2 cities have met the most times in the Pro Football championship game (AAFC/AFL/NFL/SB)?

It depends on whether or not you count the unofficial title game that was played in Chicago in 1932 as a championship game. The NFL doesn't count it as offical. Counting it, New York and Chicago have met six times in title games. If you don't count it, then New York vs. Chicago is tied for the most with New York vs. Green Bay with 5 each (Neither NY vs. Chic. or NY vs. GB has occurred in the "Super Bowl Era")

    9. Which NFL franchises have appeared in the Super Bowl representing 2 or more different cities?

The LA/St. Louis Rams, the LA/Oakland Raiders, the Baltimore/Indianapolis Colts

    10. Which of the following states have never had a Professional Championship team in the 4 major sports come from that state? (NFL/AAFC/AFL/NBA/ABA/MLB/NHL/WHL)

Rhode Island The Providence Steamroller won the 1928 NFL title

Utah The Utah Stars won the 1971 ABA title

Connecticut The Hartford Whalers won a WHL titles (I believe 1975)

Kentucky The Kentucky Colonels won an ABA title

Virginia None, though the ABA Virginia Squires existed, they never won a title.

Oregon The Portland Trailblazers won the 1977 NBA title

Tennessee Despite the Titans, Predators, and Grizzlies no Tennessee team has won a title

Oklahoma No titles, the Thunder has only existed a few years.

Thus the answer is: Virgina, Tennessee, Oklahoma

  • If you're going to post trivia - it would help if you actually had the correct answers to your trivia questions.

For instance - your question on the most number of post-season games - the answers you post are incorrect. At least if you are going by what is actually considered by the NFL to qualify as post-season games.

Take the Browns for example - they have qualified for the NFL post-season 24 times.

    1950, 1951, 1952, 1953, 1954, 1955, 1957, 1958, 1964, 1965, 1967, 1968, 1969, 1971, 1972, 1980, 1982, 1985, 1986, 1987, 1988, 1989, 1994, 2002

The 1958 & 1967 seasons, the Browns finished in a tie for the regular season "Conference Championship" and lost in both those occasions.

The 1968 & 1969 seasons, the Browns lost in the 1st round of the expanded playoffs - where the NFL Champion was crowned after an actual playoff - instead of what was in most cases a single post-season game played on a rotating home field.

The Browns also were in 3 Playoff Bowls - which were a consolation game for 3rd place but officially considered an exhibition.

However, I know where you are reaching to attain the 28 post season appearances - once again it's the Gipper believing that the AAFC was the equivalent of the NFL. You can claim all you like that they are legitimate post-seasons, but the NFL does not acknowledge them as such. You can claim all you want the Browns "would have won the NFL Championship" at least 3 times from 1946-1949 - but your biased opinion does not make it so.

Officially, Paul Brown is one of two coaches to reach the post-season in his first 6 seasons as coach - that is a documentable fact. Bill Cowher was noted for matching that in the 1990s. The fact is the NFL does not recognize the AAFC, any of its records, any of its championships - nothing. The Cleveland Media tried to petition the NFL to acknowledge the Browns undefeated season in 1948 - but they did not.

For good reason to - The AAFC had one quality team in it (the Browns). 6 of the 8 franchises folded. The Baltimore Colts team that merged with the NFL is not the same one that existed in the late 1950s. Only the 49ers and Browns survived - the others could not survive financially nor could they field a quality team.

Now, we know why you asked the question the way you did - which was to manipulate it so the Browns looked stronger. But - why don't you focus more on what the Browns accomplished in their 24 playoff appearances?

Their overall record is 9-15. They have managed to win more than one postseason game in a single postseason only 1 time in their entire history. That includes only 4 post-season wins in the modern era, only Kansas City and Detroit have been worse by teams that existed prior to the merger. At least KC has 2 Super Bowl appearances to their credit with 1 win. Other than that, you are like the Lions.

That is real trivia for you.

For instance - your question on the most number of post-season games - the answers you post are incorrect. At least if you are going by what is actually considered by the NFL to qualify as post-season games.

My question wasn't on the number of post-season games played....it was on the number of years they made the post season. Yes, there were a number of years they played more than one postseason games

The Browns qualified for the postseason in the AAFC as well. My question was how many times did a team qualify for postseason play, not just NFL postseason play. In the research I did I included AAFC and AFL as well. This was a Browns specific question, not an NFL specific question.

I did not include any appearances in the "Playoff Bowl" because as you said, those are considered by everyone to be just exhibitions.

I wasn't reaching for a Goddamn thing. I was going by the facts. And I don't give a shit what the NFL recognizes because I and the rules I go by, and sports history are not dictated by NFL rules. The xxxxing facts are the xxxxing facts and if you don't like the xxxxing facts you can stick them up your xxxxing ass. Every legitimate sports statistics compilation service includes the AAFC years in the Browns record, including the Pro Football Hall of Fame, pro-football-reference, The Sporting News, Sports Illustrated etc. etc. etc.

Those years happened, they were not some Bobby Ewing dream sequence.

If you are going to give an answer to one of my trivia questions, you are going to have to give the actual factual answer. Not some answer that fits whatever delusion you are on.

Aside from that, the answer to that question was the Giants and the Cowboys who each made the playoffs 30 times. Though, perhaps, according to your delusion, we should not count the Giants appearances that occurred prior to 1950? Certainly those NFL appearances would be no more legitimate in your mind than the Browns pre-1950 postseason appearances.

If you have paid any attention to what I have put on here over the years, you will know of course that Paul Brown took his team to 10 consecutive title games, and you would also know why the NFL (and ONLY the NFL) wouldn't recognize the AAFC stats....because of the bitterness and jealousy of one Bert Bell, who was at the same time Commissioner of the NFL and owner of the defending NFL champion Eagles whom the Browns obliterated in that first meeting. It is a long story that I won't go into here, but it all has to do with the fact that Bell was embarassed by the outcome of that game, thus he came down with a rule that because not all of the ORIGINAL game stat sheets of AAFC games were available that they wouldn't recognize the AAFC stats. Of course, copies of those sheets WERE available, and of course if the same requirement were imposed on the NFL to produce ALL of the original game stat sheets they couldn't do it. The PFHOF has all the stats from the AAFC games. It has purely to do with bitterness over the shellacking of the Eagles by the Browns.

Tell us something we haven't already know for 50 years. Yes, only 3 teams came over from the AAFC. The original Colts folded, then were ressurected for the 1953 season.

So what? Now, we know why you asked the question the way you did - which was to manipulate it so the Browns looked stronger. But - why don't you focus more on what the Browns accomplished in their 24 playoff appearances?

Since the answer to the question was the Cowboys and Giants, just how the xxxx do you figure that I manipulated it to make the Browns look stronger? Just what is it about "truth" that you dislike so much?

Their overall record is 9-15. They have managed to win more than one postseason game in a single postseason only 1 time in their entire history. That includes only 4 post-season wins in the modern era, only Kansas City and Detroit have been worse by teams that existed prior to the merger. At least KC has 2 Super Bowl appearances to their credit with 1 win. Other than that, you are like the Lions.

Again, what is your point? Do you think you are entitle to a dick ring because you got one thing right? No one knows the Browns history better than Browns fans. Clearly you only know about half of it.

WTF are you talking about? Lets start with the fact that from 1946-1966 the playoffs were setup generally so that there was only 1 single postseason game played in the entire league, with the exception of ties. One year, 1950 they did play and win both games, the same happened in 1949. How can you win more than one game when only 1 game is played?

That is real trivia for you.

Well, here you go Bub. You are welcome to start a thread of your own trivia questions.

I notice you didn't bother to even try any of the other 10 questions of this thread, none of which dealt with the Browns. I suspect that is because, like Bert Bell, you would show yourself to be an embarrassed, bitter old fool if you tried.

  • Here is the link to the pro-football-reference log of Browns postseason play.
