Report: Browns To Sign Usama Young
-
I haven't seen to much of this kid. He is only 26 though so he is (in theory atleast) in his prime and about 4 years younger then Abe Elam. Atleast he is young and hopefully has something to prove.
Hopefully we can still sign Elam and just let the best man win the job. I highly doubt we pursue Abe though.

Saints S Young arrested after traffic stop
By BRETT MARTEL (AP)
NEW ORLEANS — New Orleans Saints safety Usama Young's failure to appear in court for parking in a handicap spot led to his arrest this week after he was stopped for speeding.
Harahan Police Chief Peter Dale said officers initially pulled Young over in suburban and intended to give him a ticket, but had to arrest him because records turned up an outstanding violation in Jefferson Parish. Sheriff's spokesman Col. John Fortunato confirmed that Young had failed to appear at a court date.
Young and his attorney, Donald "Chick" Foret, said the other citation came last year when the player was parked illegally at a cell phone store.
"I wanted to say I sincerely apologize for doing what I did. There's no excuse for it," Young said in a phone interview. "I ran into the AT&T store for a two- to three-minute stop to get a phone charger, and came back out and an officer was writing me a ticket. Immediately, I knew I was wrong."
Young said he also wanted to apologize specifically "to all people with disabilities or the elderly who need handicapped parking spots. I wasn't acting professionally and you can bet that I won't do anything like that again."
Young said he forgot to pay the parking ticket and forgot about the court date, in part because he had a lot going on between the end of the 2008 NFL season and his return to Kent State University in Ohio to finish work on his degree in education.
Young was on his way home when he was pulled over by Harahan police around 3:14 a.m. on Monday.
Dale said Young was clocked at 55 miles per hour in a 40 mph zone and drove about a mile before pulling over.
"He wasn't belligerent. He didn't give officers any trouble," Dale said.
Still, the officers cited Young with reckless driving and fleeing police, then arrested him. He was transferred to the Jefferson Parish jail in Gretna and released on $1,500 bond soon after, Foret said.
Saints spokesman Greg Bensel said the team was aware of Young's arrest.
"We are working with him, our legal counsel and we are supporting Usama in this matter," Bensel said.
Young, 24, was a standout at Kent State and a third-round draft pick in 2007. He spent his first two seasons as a reserve cornerback and special teams player.
This season, he switched to free safety and has impressed coaches during training camp while competing with veteran Darren Sharper for the starting job. Sharper is expected to start, but coaches have said Young is making a strong case for playing time.

I would love Osi. I know he has been banged up and is getting up there in age ... but depending on the price I would jump at the chance to get him. I would have no problem giving up a fourth rounder for him (maybe even a third) I think we would finally have a D-lineman who can provide a legit pass rush.
I would also pass on Edwards, who I have mixed feelings about, if we were to get Osi. I would also rather sign Kiwinuka (SP) then Edwards onlt because I think Kiwinuka would be half the price (maybe less then half)
The only team I have heard though that has interest in Osi is the Ravens.

Haven't heard a lot about him. Do you think he's an upgrade or has a greater upside over Elam? Obviously the Browns must....
personally, I don't know much about him. All I know is he started on a super bowl winning team so he must be better than 90% of our current team

he didnt start.....he was a backup
most saints fans will tell you he isnt very good in coverage but they usually base it on one play against the colts in the super bowl where he got beat....but he was playing corner then, not safety
i dont think hes much of an upgrade over elam but hes been log jammed behind our pro bowl strong safety roman harper the past few seasons and he was likely never going to get a chance anyway. his biggest contributions are on special teams where he usually was our gunner and was always in on tackles for the kick off team
a great benefit by picking him up is that although he is listed as a safety, he came into the league as a corner so that allows for some versatility in the secondary if ever the browns should need it
hes very athletic and hes a solid tackler but he seems to be too stiff to play in a lot of man coverage very often....otherwise im sad to see him leave new orleans although im glad to see him join another team that i get to see often

I dont think the Giants would let Osi go for a 4th rounder probaly want more like a 2nd and thats to much for me...Mathais has recently resigned with the Giants which is why they are shopping Osi.

I don't think they would be able to get a second for him. Just seems like a lot for a 30+ yr old D lineman.
I wouldn't mind giving up a third rounder ... and maybe even throw in a 6th or 7th or some sort of package of later round picks in the 12 and 13 draft. Out of everything that is left (Edwards included) Osi to me is the best. And is a BEAST. The only thing Edwards has going for hiim over Osi is age ... but I rather a potential pro bowler at 31 or 32 then a potential bust at 26.
If I knew Edwards would play as well here without 2 very very good DT's and Jarad Allen getting all those double teams I would be all for him. Him teeing off on right tackles and rarely if ever seeing a double teams scares me off from him. Not to say he is a bum ... just saying you never know. Atleast with Osi you know he can be the guy.

ESPN EXPERT TAKE: Young has provided New Orleans good depth and the occasional start. He is a good-sized safety with excellent straight-line speed but looks a bit stiff in the hips and legs when trying to break down or change directions for tight coverage. He still needs work on his route recognition skills and will bite on too many fakes. He will show good ball skills but can be inconsistent when tracking the ball deep.
One of the reasons for the move to safety (supposedly) was because he wasn't fluid enough to play NFL corner. He's faster than Elam...but I don't know that he's better.
I think that if we sign Jonathan Joseph and move Sheldon Brown to FS...this is a good signing for depth purposes. But...if he's expected to start...I'm not 100% sold.

I agree...he's an idiot. What does his name mean in the grand scheme of things? A rose by any other name would still smell just as sweet.

ESPN Rumor Central has Browns as front runner for Edwards.
UPDATE: The 4-3 defensive end market is dwindling. A top heavy free agent class has already seen most of its priority players sign with teams.
Charles Johnson re-signed with Carolina. Jason Babin returned to Philadelphia. Mathias Kiwanuka stayed in New York. Ray Edwards will land in Cleveland?
According to Vic Carruci, host of Browns Daily on ESPN Cleveland WKNR and staff writer clevelandbrowns.com, said on-air that he has heard reports the Browns are close to signing the Ohio native which was confirmed by radio personality LeCharles Bentley.
Scout.com's John Holler reiterates the current rumor.
"Word from the bowels of the Rust Belt is that the Cleveland Browns are inquiring and, by some accounts, have either made or are exchanging offers with Edwards and his people."
The Browns have been coy about their movements during free agency. They have remained quiet to the public instead of making a splash.
The reason may be their determination to sign Edwards instead of letting the market play out in the public's eye.
Meanwhile, the potential of Edwards signing in Cleveland leaves a void in Atlanta's defense who was believed to be the top suitor for the DE's services.
"The Falcons are rumored to be more concerned about spreading money around to sign some of their own UFAs, as opposed to raising the bar on re-signing future free agents by throwing eight figures of guaranteed money at 'an outsider' that wasn?t part of their 2010 success," Holler finished.
UPDATE: With the recent (as in a few minutes ago) signing of Charles Johnson to the Carolina Panthers, defensive end Ray Edwards is now in the driver's seat when it comes to naming his team and price.
The team he is discussing the most, at least publicly?
"Ray edwards raving about the Browns. (It) would be a nice fit," Sirius Radio's Adam Schein tweeted.
Atlanta is believed to be the top suitor for Edwards' services, but Cleveland is as desperate at defensive end as the Falcons. Plus, Cleveland has more money to spend being reportedly $30 million dollars under the new salary cap.
Or this could all be a ploy to use what ample leverage Edwards currently possesses.
