  • I was worried that he wouldn't reup with us because he would want to go to a team that is a contender now versus us being a contender in a year or two though I think we may be a tough team this year.

This is the best news of the season so far, right up there with McCoy excelling in the WCO. The team is coming together. Now if we can just resign Mack and build our other OL we will be golden. McCoy will have time to throw and Hillis/Jackson/Hardesty will have holes to run through.

  • Can't beat this news.

Let's not get too ahead of ourselves. McCoy has done well in the postseason in the WCO. Let's not start throwing around terms like "excelled" until he wins a few games that count.

  • Also meant to add that this is an example of a true class act. Joe Thomas didn't hold out and be a little punk like Chris Johnson of Tennessee. I didn't even know that Thomas wanted an extension, if that is the case, Thomas and the FO got the job done without any distractions.

  • Also noted of getting ahead of ourselves is hardesty playing a game for us.

Is it me or does anyone not named hillis have trouble running behind our line?

  • wow some of you are really homo.

  • I should have clarified or perhaps worded differently what I meant by McCoy excelling in the WCO. I meant it as a comparison to where most people thought he would be after not having an offseason. I didn't think he would be performing as well as he has.

As for Hardesty, unless he injuries himself again he is going to play more this year than he did last year.

  • Haha ok... 🙂

  • This woke me up from the off-season ... let's roll

  • LOL WB Stan....This is awesome news,Im ecstatio...Thomas showed some nice class by virtue of getting it done quietly. Cheers to the whole organization.

  • This is great news to all Brown fans we really need him to be a future of this team, great person and a great leader..Anybody know the terms to Mack's contract??

  • mack is signed thru 2013, UFA in 2014. he's making less than 800k this year....so he'll be due for a big payday soon.

    2009: 816,000

    2010: 700,000

    2011: 774,000

    2012: 1,303,000

    2013: 1,932,000

  • They should go ahead and try and get the extension for Mack done with, might save some money as opposed to doing it a couple of years from now.

  • Yeah now we don't have to worry about signing anyone else.

Those who think we couldn't have signed him and other players are dumb.

You probably think robiske makes the team

We're paying guys who have earned it- unlike the washed up vets or second rate bums you were calling for. You probably wanted us to make the trade for Taylor Mays too.

  • Ooh, wow, the best thing about this is that we will continue to be able to see Joe now for many years on his fishing show with D'Arcy Egan on STO! 😁

  • The message here is "Play like an Allpro... Act like an Allpro...Get paid like an Allpro" ...

The days of throwing money at over weight ,underachieving defensive linemen or "Hey look at me!!!" loudmouth wide recievers...is over

    I like it !!!

  • I'm surprised you guys are so excited about locking up Joe Thomas for $84M. That's not a bargain in my book. I understand you wanting to lock up a star player (and who is arguably the best at his position) but to me the cost is so high. He's being paid what a top QB currently makes. I have very mixed feelings about recent signings of my team, the Steelers, have made as well. Sure Pittsurgh locked up two outstanding linebackers (Woodley/Timmons) but they did so at such a premium at roughly $10M and $8M/yr.

I suppose my biggest concern with these type of contracts is that they are all back-loaded. They get the numbers down now but in 3-4 years your cap ballons. Then invariably you have to cut some star players to keep the core of your team intact. In terms of Mr. Thomas, to me it just makes no sense to pay him that kind of money unless you have a top QB for him to protect or the best overall offensive line in football.

  • Browns agreed to terms with LT Joe Thomas on a seven-year, $84 million extension with $44 million guaranteed.

The mammoth extension pays Thomas Larry Fitzgerald/Julius Peppers kind of money, busting the old high-water mark for offensive line guarantees. And he's worth every penny. Thomas has played four years in the NFL. He's made the Pro Bowl in each season, twice been a first-team All-Pro, never missed a start, and (our favorite Thomas fact): Never missed a practice. The Browns don't have many playmakers on offense, but they have the best left tackle in football protecting their QB-of-the-future hopeful, Colt McCoy. • I don't know how you can expect to pay the top LT in the game less than top LT money, he deserves to be the highest paid player at his position.

  • Hoorta,

Have u even read a single post I have done??? First I was totally against taylor mays, look it up. U can read I assume.

2nd show me where I wanted us to sign a washed up vet?? I love how the brain washed people in here use to the same standard response.
