This is the dumbest argument I have heard yet. I don't want to get into economics because 1) you would look like an EVEN MORE of an ass when I am done with you and 2) I just don't have the time.

Not to be insulting Kos but I've yet to read anything of yours that might lead me to think you had much knowledge of economics.

The "poor" here are a hell of a lot better off than the poor in actually poor countries.

No I don't have a great deal of pity for someone with cable TV a car and subsidised food medicine and shelter.

Your comparing the US with other non-industrialized nations? LOL.

The US has the highest poverty rate for children then ANY other industrialized nation. Look it up numb nuts.

  • I think you're equating US poverty levels with the third world.

Hence you draw a ridiculous conclusion.

But if you seriously think its better in Haiti (or cuba or...) well, you know.

    WSS

  • So when you think of poverty what do you envision? Perhaps the pictures that you see on the sally struthers commercials? Children bloated bellies starving in the streets covered with flies?

Because if you do then you might have a point about poverty rates in the United states compared to the rest of the world.

But, as you know, that's not the case.

  • I'd be amused by any support of these clowns .

    Too bad Heck's not here.

How's your health, man? Doing better?

No, as I said in my last post, INDUSTRIALIZED NATIONS, dude are you ok?

  • Welfare is a safety net for those of us who have it the worse (ie, not anyone on this forum). There is no such thing for the 14 million people in the middle class who got xxxxed. Are they freeloaders too?

Doing well, Heck, thanks. Lost some weight and eliminated most simple carbohydrates.

Unfortunately I've pissed off my cat Rusty who regularly shared my frequent bag of late night cheeseburgers...

Hey you want an army roads FBI Medicare edudcation subsidies federal prisons and parks and all the bureaucrats among the other "free shit" the government provides.

Somebody has to pay for all that.

Define "poverty" any way you like.

In what way will the occupy wall street loons make a difference in that?

    WSS

    ps I'm doing well.

I guess you could make that argument about Vietnam protesters. To be honest everyone here, I am too exhausted debating mute points. Everyone seems to be stuck in their ways. If you have noticed my views are based on the current events and do change, which is the beauty of being American. Things change and keeping an open mind about society and my fellow Americans seems to be working well for me.

On that point this will be my last post in the Political Forum for a while. I am just to busy to keep up with the close minded nonsense. It's weird though don't you think, the people who are supposed to be free loading liberals here on the board are generally too busy working to check in to Drudge. I guess I now see their point. Later all.

  • FWIW the point of the Vietnam war protest was to bring home the troops and ending the war.

    Not all that puzzling.

    But; glad you're working again.

    Grumpy???

Hey I'm not the guy getting apoplectic over this goofy protest.

C'mon bud, you agent seriousy riding that bandwagon are ya?

  • Well, I see the collective intransigence in here has driven away yet another person who seems to have a clue what's going on. Congrats, fellas!

As for the protests - and you're not luring me back in here, no way - I think it's the left wing version of the Tea Party. It's an expression of legitimate angst without a real sense of what to do about it. It also includes lunatics. But I'd say these people are far more connected to reality than the Tea Party ever was. They mostly screeched about phantoms, like tax hikes that didn't exist, birth certificates, nonsense about the health care plan that wasn't true.

You'll see your share of misinformation floating around the OWS protests too, but at least they're based in something real - a sense that the current system isn't working very well for very many people, and extremely well for a few; the problems of growing inequality and a declining middle class. Now, the answer isn't as simple as "Wall Street did it." But that's a lot closer to the truth than "Obama did it." Of course, you probably still think we're in this mess because of the Community Reinvestment Act and unions, but I can't help you there.

Just like I said at least a year or two ago, it's going to be a long time before we get out of this. If Romney ends up being president - and God, I hope they nominate him - he's going to end up doing a lot of the things Republicans are now pretending to be against, but will instantly flip to supporting once their hide is on the line - payroll tax cuts, infrastructure projects, aid to the states, etc. And those won't exactly fix things either. We're going to be stuck in the mud for years no matter who is in charge.

I'm far too stubborn to just go away. Working this much can be a pain in the ass (I've gotta prep lesson plans for 9 hours of teaching tomorrow, and I just got home).

Anyways, yes. There are clearly a bunch of people here who don't know what the hell is going on; the tea party wasn't any different, so stop being like the lefties you so hated (myself included) who nitpicked the dipshits. Stop the libs vs. conservatives bullshit. There's a problem here and we're all on the wrong end of it.

Heck, you are floating mis information about the OWS crowd, you need to get your facts straight before claiming that OWS crowd has grass roots.

This whole occupy mob has paid protesters who will stay as long as the funds are still available. This movement is the White Houses answer to the Tea Party and the goal is to get the hard left out in force to push the progressive agenda.

As for Romney he is nothing more than another liberal wrapped in a republican uniform. He will lean more towards the middle and he does not appear to be anywhere on the the right of center.

My question is to all of those who support the OWS crowd; is why will you support them and not the Tea Party? Do you believe everything that you are told by the media?

  • Who remembers Van Jones?

Campaign for America's Future in the eyes of a progressive liberal

  • You have to be smoking something illegal to think the Tea Party is the same

as a bunch of soros/seiu funded losers who are getting free food, and have no principles

about what they believe in - they just hate ...and want handouts to everybody, from the rich.

they are even SAYING violent overthrow towards a socialist country.

Heck is a peabrain, and it's odd that nobody was "driven off" for the eight years

that Bush was pres. But now that they supported a phoney, lousey lieing loser ....

    they can't handle the truth.

Still think Obamao gets re-elected Heck? Rof,l !

  • Yeah, I do, actually.

  • Like this, Steve:

"the unions and government regulations and taxes started killing US manufacturing."

No. This is horseshit. First of all, the United States is still the largest manufacturer in the world. Others are catching up, but this is still true. So nothing has been killed for the reasons you imagine. The jobs you're talking about that have been lost have been lost to global competition and they ain't coming back. They weren't lost because unions existed. (Unions have been decimated for years and are absent from entire industries - how come those jobs left too?) They weren't lost because of regulations. They weren't lost because of Wall Street. They're lost because there are people in India and China and Mexico and Indonesia who will do them at a lower cost to their employer.

Take away all the unions and regulations you like. You're not going to beat 90 cents an hour.

So you flog the union and regulation horse because that's what your side does as a reflex. And the left blames Wall Street as their reflex. It's the same angst, same hopelessness, reacting to the same events, but neither side is right. The reality is that there's simply no use for many of these American workers anymore, because unless you've got a skill that's needed in the 21st century economy you're a dinosaur.

But I could show you this ten different ways, you'd still blame the unions and regulations when the sun comes up. And that's why people leave the board.
