Studying The Top Teams In The Nfl, I Know What Our Problem Is...
-
It's ALL about our O-LINE and QB. Nothing else, nothing more. Let me just start with that. And it's BOTH their faults.
When I watch the Browns game over and over, I see a common theme. That is the O-line collapses, and when it does, COLT doesn't make the HOT READ. That's a duel fault--one on the o-line for not giving the protection, and the other on Colt for not realizing it, and getting that ball off to a check-down (his favorite) receiver.
When I watched the Pittspuke/Patriot game, I noticed something a little different than how we play our games.
First, their o-lines, MORE TIMES THAN NOT, provides that security blanket of time that allows Ben and Brady (and with Brady, it's just unfair, he is just spoiled by how much time he is given, and if he was ever on the Browns he would be totally exposed due to lack of protection--it's not even fair OR comparable) to step in the pocket WITH CONFIDENCEand deliver a strike down the field. BUT. This wasn't the case ALL the time. WHEN the O-line coverage did break down, Ben and Brady GOT THE THROW OFF IN AN INSTANT. In-An-Instant. As in, UNlike Colt does, which he needs at least 4 seconds to figure out what he's going to do with the ball...
When I watch Colt, he seems timid and gun-shy. He doesn't get the ball off in an instant. He *NEEDS* time to survey the field and make a strike. Good QB's don't need that. They have it all timed off and ready and rearing to go in a second's notice. The best QB's gets the ball going within 1 or 2 seconds faster than Colt--They simply makes quicker reads--This and of itself is COLT'S FAULT.Now then. . .Colt isn't ALL to blame.
The o-line doesn't get a free pass here (although Ghoolie would soon dismiss this notion since they are a "dime and dozen..")
Pittspuke's (and the other game I watched--Carolina's) O-line DID give their QB amble, upon ogles of time to throw the ball. MY EYES DID NOT DECEIVE ME! THEIR O-LINE SIMPLY GAVE MORE PROTECTION THAN OURS--anyone want to argue that, let's go toe-to-toe and break down the tape...That's on the O-line.
You see, it's a joint effort. The o-line and the QB MAKE the TEAM. The WR just go out and make a juke move and sprint past the defender (provided they have the time to)to be IN THE POSITION to MAKE THE PLAY. That can't HAPPEN UNTIL the QB has the time, OR takes it upon himself to make the hot-read and dump that ball off in a millisecond--like Ben did in the game I just saw and UNlike Colt does--for ever since he's been here--but if maybe the o-line gave him as much time as Pittspuke, he could make the same throws--that's what I'm talking about here!
That's what's the problem is with the Browns offense.
What else is there to be said?
Our WR's are terrible slow and can't get open. It's not that he's timid or gunshy, Watch replays of the routes our WR's are running, their covered like a rug. Everytime he does throw the ball its almost a force or the D breaks down on their zone coverages. Its really sad, but Colt has zero weapons on offense with a third string running back. Get off his back
If our guys could get open then he would be able to throw the hot route and get the ball out of his hands before he gets killed. Yes the Oline is not great and it needs major help, but we need guys to get open out there.

carlos, is that you?
guys are getting open....he just never sees them. much of it is his duress in the pocket, but please stop with this nonsense that its just the WR's.
as u suggested, ive watched the replays. and they tell a different story that what you are claiming. its not the receivers calling 3 yard routes that put them square in the LB zones now is it?

You are HALF right. There is NOTHING WRONG with the Browns OL. It is better than 75% of the lines in the NFL.

Our QB, WRs, and RBs ALL BLOW BIG TIME.
Ben gets sacked because he gets greedy and sits back in the pocket for over 5 seconds. The Line protection is there most of the time (80-90%)....but every line is not made of steel; when it breaks down and he gets sacked it's ok, once in a awhile, it's normal, and it would be for our team. But I want to see 5 or more seconds for Colt like Ben (and longer than that for Brady) gets.
Please re-watch the Steelers/Pats game and tell me you don't see a difference in the amount of time given to their QB's and ours--hell I've noticed it with Cam Newton and his line. That o-line gives him a crap load of time to throw, that's why he is making throws downfield, he and the WR's have the time to get open and throw. When the line breaks down and he gets the same amount of time Colt gets on nearly every down, he gets sacked or has to run out of the pocket--busted play.
You still say Colt has as much time as them and I'll just re-confirm you have no idea what it takes to win football games. You think it's all glitz and glamor with high-style running backs and high-flying WR's. How did they get there? WHo does the dirty work? WHy do RBs always thank the offensive linemen? OPEN YOUR EYES GHOOLIE! Or do you even watch other teams play or not?
From the PD:
McCoy has been sacked 16 times, 14 in the last four games. Teams are blitzing more. Coach Pat Shurmur said the 49ers did nothing special, that the Browns had people there to block -- but not all the blocks were made.

Im watching Chargers vs Chiefs and both of these qbs are getting time to stand in there and survey the field. With about 3 minutes before halftime rivers gets sacked, but replayed it and he got sacked at 7 seconds in the pocket. Our line rarely gets #12 five seconds upright in the pocket, nor leaves him room to step up in the pocket and make a throw. This leads to 12 leaving the pocket early at times and the happy feet.
The Browns opponents are bringing extra pressure almost every play, by that I mean more than four rushers. This continues because we have been unable to make the D pay for it by completing many meaningful passes downfield. It doesn't help that we don't have any receivers that demand a double team every play, the DB's are unafraid to press cover our slow wideouts and the the extra defenders in the box are also hurting the running game.
I'm not convinced at this point that McCoy is the going to be the answer but we will never know without some better schemes and line play. For starters why not use more shotgun formations since that was what McCoy operated in College? The extra second to survey the field might really help the young QB. Shurmer needs to be flexible enough to get the most of of what he has rather than simply installing an offense without considering the talent we have available.
Last thought, with us so thin at RB right now, why not use Cribbs for a few plays back here? 16 is probably the most dynamic playmaker we have on the team.

ok..the stupid is flowing so here we go...
top 6 teams in QB hits this year
1. rams 63
2. hawks
3. fins
4. skins
5. falcons
6. browns 44
best record of all those is 4-3, with the 1-3 being pretty bad teams and inept offenses.
top 6 teams in sacks given up
1. hawks 28
2. rams
3. fins
4. stools
5. cards
6. broncos 22
14 brownies 17
the stools have a unique QB, the others are not fairing to well this year tho.
then theres this..
Interesting stuff on Colt McCoy- “ProFootballFocus tracks a stat which they call “pocket presence.” It represents the percentage of sacks, hits or hurries for which the quarterback is personally responsible. For example, if a quarterback stands in the pocket for six seconds, pump fakes twice and then takes a sack, that’s on him. Even the best offensive line will struggle to keep the defense at bay for that length of time.
This was an area in which Colt McCoy, as should be expected of a rookie, struggled in 2010. McCoy caused 11.7 percent of his own sacks/hits/hurries as a rookie, a higher percentage than anyone aside from Joe Flacco (13.3 percent). This year, despite a shaky offensive line due to numerous injury, McCoy has remarkably improved by leaps and bounds.”
so i generally dont like to use stats to prove a point, but this one is fairly cut and dry. mccoy is taking a beating, and it appears its not his fault. so then if the resident trolls contend its not the OL, that leaves the TEs/RBs. seems funny considering those guys are out in routes a good bit....
yup....keep beating the drum that our OL is fine. even when evidence stares you right in the face, youre to vain to consider the truth...thus choosing to plug your ears and become a broken record that is most often than not....wrong.
reminds me of someone actually...

That's kinda dumb.
rothlicksboogerapist has wr's that nearly always get open fast.
They are that quick.
The squeelers draft wr's that have toughness, quickness, and very fast.
big stupid assaulter ben can simply throw to open receivers any time he needs to.
Or, the squeelers get that pass int penalty on cue....
Whatever. The Browns are close to an outstanding NFL defense.
The offense needs some significant additions.
Wailing and knashing? of teeth doesn't help diddley. The Browns didn't have twenty-seven
picks in the first two rounds of the draft last year, so build a freakin bridge already.

1) Rapisberger is the most damn atypical qb in the NFL. He's essentially a linebacker that happens to have a quarterback's arm. He takes a shitload of sacks- because he's confident the other teams linebackers aren't going to be able to break him in half. More than once, I've seen Peyton Manning just freaking fall down instead of take a hit similar to what Ben routinely absorbs.
2) BS. Or maybe you missed Pashos whiffing on a LB blitz that got McCoy killed, with the ensuing fumble that essentially won the game for the 49ers? Or our two guards that can't open any significant holes for our running backs? Shurmur called running plays ALL DAY between the guard-tackle cap, and they netted us a gigantic 42 yards rushing, and on passing plays had McCoy running for his life on a regular basis- in fact Colt was damn near our leading ground gainer.

So are you admitting OL guys are a dime a dozen especially since we have a very high paid OL and spent more on the OL than any other team since 99 and stank almost always

yeah and he played QB in college. why not mix it up and be creative at play calling.
Cribbs is done love the guy, like I said more than a year ago, trade him while value is extremely high, he will be out ot the NFL in two years, love him and his playing and heart, the NFL stands for NOT FOR LONG
