Survey Monday Thanksgiving Week
-
Here is this week's survey (I know I haven't done this in a few weeks). Give your opinion:
1. Do you think the MSL (Major League Soccer) should be given the status as the "Fifth Major League" along with the NFL, MLB, NBA, and NHL?
2. The tradition of the annual Thanksgiving Day professional league game actually goes back to the 1890s. In fact, one of the first games on Turkey day was held between the Cleveland Athletic Club and the Allegheny Athletic Club. Would you like to see Cleveland and Pittsburgh play a traditional Thanksgiving day game? (perhaps rotating home and home or something?)
3. With the discussion last week with Jacksonville being 10 times the size of Cleveland because the entire county down there has been consolidated into one city; and with the issues of local governments here and elsewhere, including probably where you are, being strapped for cash and tax revenue would you like to see a consolidation of city and county government into a single entity? (whether that be Cleveland/Cuyahoga Co. or your local area)
4. Are you having a tradition Thanksgiving with the turkey, etc. or are you doing something different for the Holiday? If so, what?
5. OK, I think this may actually be the first time this topic has been raised because really, it was premature: Who do you think will play in and win The Super Bowl?
-
1. Whats MLS? Is that like a new kind of disease? j/k no if you are about to add a fifth then it would likely be NASCAR or Golf
2. No, I like the current format, most of my Thanksgiving is spent with family, and football is more of a background to the after the feast nap. If the Brown played I would watch more closely.
3. If the gov't actually worked, and meet the expectations that it needs to meet.
4. Turkey
5. While Green Bay seems likely, I am going to say they make it the superbowl, but are beaten by.... The Ravens

-
No on the soccer
No on Browns on Thanksgiving. I like to enjoy that day.
No on the gov't thing. The cites around here can't get along now. If you put them all together, they will kill each other.
Traditional turkey, stuffing, taters, cranberry, pies, and all the good stuff.
Green Bay vs New England

My opinions:

Not immediately, but in 5-10 years it could be. Right now that league is I think 19 teams. If it expanded to 24 I think it would be about the right size. And if it is profitable. Plus, it only began play in 1996 after other soccer leagues folded. I know they have and are building more "soccer only" stadia. That helps them. Give it another decade and maybe.

In fact, one of the first games on Turkey day was held between the Cleveland Athletic Club and the Allegheny Athletic Club. OK, no, probably not. There are already 3 NFL games on Thanksgiving now, plus college games. That is probably sufficient.
As someone who has benefitted from the decentralization of government, I actually see where there could be benefits to consolidation. Right now every or most smaller towns and suburbs have their own fire, police, EMT, dispatch, zoning, building inspection, finance office, economic development office, utility department, jail, mayors, council, boards, commissions etc. etc. and all the bureucracy that comes with them. Cuyahoga Co. has 59 political subdivions. Summit Co. has at least 31. All these duplicate these services in some way or another. Why not reduce all that bureaucracy down to a few?
4. Are you having a tradition Thanksgiving with the turkey, etc. or are you doing something different for the Holiday? If so, what?
Pretty traditional: stay at home with the turkey, cranberries, yams and pumpkin pie. My office partner however is off on a Carribean cruise this week. I guess they will probably serve turkey on the boat.

The Green Bay Packers obviously are the choice for the NFC. In the AFC it is quite a mix. I would have said the DumbAssTexans had a shot before Schaub went down for the count. Now it looks like the Ravens or Patriots. I will say the Rats get it done.

Yes, its actually better than the NHL. I cant stand to watch hockey on TV. I would probably rank it above the NBA as well.
2. The tradition of the annual Thanksgiving Day professional league game actually goes back to the 1890s. I would love it. Cum in my pants.

It would be nice, but the logistics would have to be perfect and the leadership would have to be flawless, or else it could do much more damage than good.
4. Are you having a tradition Thanksgiving with the turkey, etc. or are you doing something different for the Holiday? If so, what?
The usual tradition. Turkey, football, and lots of beer.
5. OK, I think this may actually be the first time this topic has been raised because really, it was premature: Who do you think will play in and win The Super Bowl?
Green Bay vs. Baltimore, Green Bay repeats.
