These 5 Picks Have Set Us Back Years.......
-
Robiskie, MoMass, Veikune, Marecic, and Cameron Jordan. Imagine the players drafted shortly after these guys. I know Iknow hindsight is 20/20, but it not like these guys were busts, most on here knew they were reaches when they were drafted. It amazes me that 5 misses in the draft hurts us more than anything. Marecic and Jordan are worthless. Heckert has found us talent in the 1st and second 2nds but i could freaking do that. Wheres the diamonds in the rough that the Steelers Ravens and Pats find every year. We all can bitch about what we have, but ultimately our drafting is the only thing holding us back, there is value in every round of the draft.
Some blame Shurmur but in all honestly Bill Walsh couldnt make a winner out of this team, so why would Shurmur.

I don't know how you put two 4th round picks from this years draft on the list. First off it's not the 4th round picks that you don't hit on that set you back, it's the 1st and 2nd round picks, which we have hit on since Heckert came here. I agree that Robo and Veikune were huge misses that set us back because they were expected to the #1 guys at their positions and they just can't play ball. The MoMass pick only doesn't work out because he was brought in to be the #2 guy next to Robo when we eventually were to get rid of Edwards, but since Robo didn't work out it makes it pointless to draft a #2 WR in round 2 with no #1 guy.
I'm not going to judge our 4th rounders this year either, espessially Jordan Cameron who was not supposed to play this year (if you payed attention at all during the draft you would know that he is learning the position and has a very high ceiling, but still has to grow as a player). I also think Marecic is doing a lot better now than what he was doing at the beginning of the season and most people just label him a bust because his name isn't Vickers. Guess what our running game doesn't work cause we we don't have great running backs, our good gaurd that everyone hates for no reason slipped a disc in his back, and every defense we play stacks the box. Vickers didn't do shit the last 5 games last season because of two of the three given reasons why our run O isn't doing anything this year and Marecic already has more catches than Vickers has had since he was drafted.

This just a little bit tongue in cheek.
Despite his 'Pro Bowl' status, I believe the drafting of Alex Mack also hurt this team given the fact they passed on a 'home grown' talent who is well on his way to Canton, OH unless something significantly out of the ordinary occurs.
Is Alex Mack a 'game changer'?
Is Clay Matthews a game changer?
PS Both are what is oftentimes referred to as rhetorical questions.

No hatred towards the Green Bay Packers, but that is just flat out WRONG that Clay Matthews ISN'T wearing a Browns jersey like his dad!

Robo is with the Jags doing nothing on their roster as well. As fas as Jordan being a bad pick its a bit to early to tell with him. He barely played in college after swithing from basketball to football his senior year. He was drafted on sheer talent alone and was known to be a project. With the success of Jimmy Graham in New Orleans and having the same background it was worth a shot for a 4th rounder.
I agree with you on Marecic, the guy has been an awful FB. He doesn't blow anyone up like Vickers did and he looks so small for an NFL FB. Even his own coach in college passed on him in the draft and then did something genius and signed a rookie LB who never played FB in his life and converted him to FB, Miller has been great in San Fran! He's looked great blocking and has caught some passes out of the backfield. As far as Manigini's draft it was atrocious/devastating other than Mack who was a no brainer at the bottom of the 1st, it will go down as one of our worst drafts and Savage had some bad ones.
Just think we could of had Mike Wallace, Ray Maluaga. Leasean McCoy, Shonn Greene, Ladarius Webb. All of whom were drafted after, Brian Robiskie, David Veikune and Mohamad Masaqau,
How would this team look with Ray M playing LB, McCoy playing RB and Wallace going deep at WR.

I fooking said it all draft day, the Browns are assholes for passing on Ray Maluaga.

Everybody passed on Rey Rey
Also, I'd add Hardesty to that list, too.

Not so fast Bud, we have a zillion more stupid and more stupid picks that last 11 years,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,starting with Joe Thomas

This team is not good enough to fuqin draft projects, hell we dont have a good starting 22. How the fuque can team with this many holes draft freaking projects. Most Projects end up living in the Projects. Draft me the best player available on every freaking pick. With as many holes as we have, they best player available would fit right in. WE HAVE A LT,C,DE,2DT,CB AND S. ALL ELSE CAN BE UP GRADED.

My analysis of your "draft picks that will set us back 5 years"
Robiskie- Great potential out of college and was one of Ohio States staple players in their successful program from 2004-2008. Never translated in the NFL because he could not generate much separation between defensive backs and lacked enough stamina to keep up with NFL game speed. Grade: D-
MoMass- Underrated coming out of college, but still put up great numbers due to Matthew Stafford throwing to him for his entire college career. Hasn't lived up to his 2nd round potential, however, he has the chance to be an excellent slot receiver if a #1 target is established in Cleveland. Nonetheless, he has proven to be a moderately reliable receiver, especially in game changing moments. Grade: B-
Veikune- Overrated coming out of a overly hyped Hawaii program, was drafted to provide depth at the linebacker. Ended up being a mediocre player in special teams and was released after the front office finally realized that he was a waste of space on the active roster. Grade: F
Marecic- Was regarded as a player with one of the best work ethics and character traits coming out of Stanford. Very intelligent player, but lacks the strength to block at the same level we were used to with recently departed Lawerence Vickers. Still, his full abilities have yet to be seen from such a small material to be judged upon. Grade: Incomplete
Jordan Cameron (Not Cameron Jordan)- Was drafted as a "experimental project" at the Tight End position out of USC. Only played two years of college football and was a four year basketball letterman. In recent NFL history, basketball players have proven to translate into successful Tight Ends, especially those such as Jimmy Graham, Tony Gonzales, and Antonio Gates. If he is groomed properly, he can be a viable asset a few years into development, but just like Owen Marecic, his full potential has remained to be seen. Grade: Incomplete
So I slightly disagree with your picks and why they have set us back, but some of your points are valid.

It didn't help that Couch sucked, Courtny Brown sucked, Gerrard Warren sucked, William Green sucked...............and on and on and on.
The 1st round picks this team has made since 1999 have all been busts except Thomas, Mack, and Hayden
-
I'll give you Robo, but that might be it. MoMass has been decent on a terrible team. We could have had better, yes... but hindsight is 20/20 obviously and no one has a perfect draft.
The other two are rookies, I don't think you can write them off as setting us back for years, as we would still likely be just as terrible with someone other than them.
Players we could have had:
Round 4
Roy Helu
Delone Brown
Kendall Hunter
Casey Matthews
Round 5
Denarius Moore
Round 6
Brian Rolle
Roy Helu would have been nice, as would have Casey (even if he hasnt played great). Denarius Moore would have been a nice addition as well. Brian Rolle was the only other player really doing things this year.

Cameron Jordan plays for the saints
Jordan Cameron plays for the brownies
