How To Change The Losing Culture?

The Browns Board

Just wanted to throw this out there and get some honest, intelligent feedback. No matter who we have at the helm over the last 13 years or so, we lose with. The easy answer is Lerner, but bullshit. It's the overall culture. You can blame a coach (although agreeably bad) going 5-11, but what Browns coach hasn't (you catch my drift). No matter how many top 10 draft picks we have, it doesn't help. I'll die a Browns fan no matter what. I just wish we could turn the culture around.

Respectful Steeler fan feedback is acceptable.

Why would you think the Steeler fans would be useful? They are as clueless as to why the Steelers are successful as Browns fans are clueless as to why the Browns are unsuccessful.

Although their players bunch of prison thugs, their front office knows how to win. You have to admit they draft pretty darn well. Draft players that win.

OK then, solicit the opinions of their front office personell, not their stupid fans.

I have long maintained the the first problem IS, we don't have ANY CULTURE at all.

Lerner is not a bad guy and he isn't purposely trying to put out a shit product. However, while people here want to believe it doesn't start at the top, it does, and this will remain our problem.

If people work for a boss who is kind of clueless and without passion for his business, they are not likely to be driven in their jobs.

Holmgren, Heckert and Shurmur were not embraced into any sort of pre-existing standard, so they pretty much are a ship without a course. TO say they are charged with " winning" isn't enough. These fkucktards aren't even on the same page with each other.

Holmgren claims it all starts with the QB, yet we don't have one and it seems have no plans to get one.

    Idtiots!

Well, Holmgren is wrong....it all starts with HIM. The guy that is running the whole operation. And really, that is the way it should be. The owner should just be the ATM.

There are many owners that did just that. They just said "tell me what you need and you'll have it". Eddie DeBartolo did that. Bob Kraft essentially does that. Pat Bowlen does that. Steven Biscotti does that. Hell, the Green Bay Packers have 112,120 of them essentially (I looked it up). By the way, I hear now that one of them is Mr. Mike Ditka. Mr. Chicago Bear himself bought Packers stock.

But, I digress. It is the team president who is the face of the organization who it all starts with.

  • On the field leadership. You need guys on both sides of the ball that players gravitate to and believe in. A player that holds everyone accountable. He needs to be talented and consistent. Haven't seen anyone in a Browns uniform with those qualities since Jamir Miller.

  • It all begins and ends with the draft and a franchise QB. If you think about, up until a few years ago we've had shitty drafts and absolutely nothing that comes close to a franchise QB. I remember seeing a post by I'm sure Gipper that showed how an unbelievably low amount of our draft picks are even still in the NFL yet alone on the browns roster. As much as we need more talent at least most can admit we have guys that actually resemble pro football players on the roster in Ward, Haden, Thomas, Rubin, Sheard and Taylor. It's all about hitting on the first round draft picks and then finding the steals in the draft. Now it's time to get the QB. **Spoiler alert! Canton will probably come in and say we have to give Colt another year! Even though Anderson and Quinn had less talent then we do now and amazingly when we let them go they died on depth charts. I guess they weren't given enough time either**

Anyway, that's where it has to be, that's clearly the blueprint for a winning team and something the browns have failed to do since 1999

Fancy new uniforms ought to do the trick.

    Zombo

That's the most ridiculous, idiotic, inane thing I've ever heard.

    What we need is cheerleaders.

    Here i am

Derek Anderson was awful but made the pro bowl in 07 and almost helped the browns to the playoffs

Quinn didn't get enough starts and is only playing behind Tebow in Denver because of the fans...just like here in Cleveland

Continuity and commitment is something the browns don't have as an entire organization

Give a head coach and a QB more than a season or 2 and you can start to see improvements

Draft players that win? Why isn't Colt the Savior by now? It's easier said than done.

  • Losing breeds a losing culture, so to change that we need to win. It's that simple.

Now, to go with your thought, I think it is more about identity. Our teams don't have identity.

With some teams you know they are going to wing it all over the place. Others are going to grind you. Others have defensive identity. They are hard hitting, or blitz, etc.,etc.

We are, and have been a pretty vanilla team. We just seem to go by the book and haven't decided "this is what we are going to do"

Until we find what it is we are going to do, the culture as you put it is going to remain the same.

Identity comes from the coach. Mangini was the only coach in this erea who looked like he was trying to build a team identity. Palmer never had a chance, Butch didn't, Romeo didn't, and now we have Casper Milquetoast as coach.

That's the point. With the last pick in the draft the Steelers take a Pro Bowl Center.

Right, McCoy had won more games as a college QB than anyone in history....until last night when Kellen Moore passed him. So, a guys winning numbers in college or even his stats mean nothing. If it did Tommy Chang would be a borderline HOF QB.
