2012 Draft Not A Banner Buckeye Year
-
The 2012 draft is not likely to be a banner year for Ohio State players being drafted.
According to CBSSports.com these are the only Buckeyes in the top 500 prospects in the land...and remember, they only draft about 250 players. The first # is the overall player prospect number, the second is where they stand at their position:
#52 Mike Adams #5 OT
#105 Michael Brewster #3 C
#117 Dan Herron #11 RB
#123 Devier Posey #11 WR
#340 Andrew Sweat #30 OLB
#419 Nathan Williams #35 OLB
#443 J.B. Shugarts #35 OT
#468 Ty Moeller #19 SS
-
Compare that to these schools that have the following number of draft prospects, just in the Top 100:
Alabama 7
Miami, Fla. 5
Stanford 4
South Carolina 4
Wisconsin 4
Georgia 4
LSU 3
OK. St. 3
UNC 3
Nebraska 3
Clemson 3
Boise St. 3

I know many buckeye WR have been major busts, but I have faith in Posey. He is a playmaker. He was the bucks main deep threat, and I'll never forget that play against Arkansas in the sugar bowl where he ran from 20-25 yards away to dive into the pile and recover a fumble before it went out of bounds. Seriously, 5 razorbacks by the ball and posey flies in to take it away from them.
I think he is worth a look in the later rounds.

Actually, I would say that many OSU receivers have been major plusses, many more than "busts":
Brian Baschnagel played 9 years with the Bears etc. as a quality possession receiver
David Boston was excellent for a while until personal issues hindered him
Chris Carter....soon to be a Hall of Famer
Joey Galloway...16 years in the NFL
Chris Gamble....8 years and counting with the Panthers
Ted Ginn....not up to draft slot, but still a very dangerous threat as WR and KR
Terry Glenn...very productive career
Anthony Gonzales....not up to draft slot, but has been hurt a lot
Brian Hartline...go to possession receiver for the Dolphins
Santonio Holmes...Super Bowl MVP, usually productive on field. Diva
Michael Jenkins...average career, but still going after 8 years with Falcons
Brian Robiskie....here's your one bust...and of course it would have to be a Brown
Chris Sander...7 productive years with Oilers etc.
Paul Warfield...Hall of Famer
Dane Sanzenbacher...despite not being drafted is a clutch possession receiver for Bears
Pretty good record in my view. Name any college that has produced a better crop of WRs in the last 50 years!
