  • Asking for extended punishment, when your punishment was nothing to begin with, isn't noble. Especially when you eventually had to resign to help the university save face anyway, making the earlier punishment null and void.

Besides, I was talking about the punishment the university put on itself. Their original punishment was nothing, then the NCAA added to it and at least got it up to adequate. Compared to what USC got, they sure feel awfully lucky

Who are you to judge what the punishment should be? To determine that it was sufficient? You're just a snot nosed kid.

I think the punishment that OSU put on itself was just fine....and the NCAA didn't really add anything at all to it except the one year of Bowl ineligibility....which really was a makeup for the NCAA's failure to do anything when they already knew the facts.

All the NCAA wanted to do was to defer the financial loss some bowl would sustain from not having OSU in there. The NCAA allowed OSU to play in two Bowl games after they knew ALL the facts about this case.

EVERYTHING done here was all about saving face.

And Tressel was NEVER required to resign...and I doubt seriously if OSU would have ever actually fired him.

And for all we know....it may have been the best thing for Tressel as it is a very good possibility that he will be named HC of the Indianapolis Colts and have Andrew Luck to coach in the next few years.

  • Not every program cheats as hard as OSU did... this isn't the SEC

Right, I assure you that anything that OSU did or what any Big Ten school does pales in comparison to what SEC schools do.

200K from Mississippi St. for a starting QB? Fair market value.....and that is for MSU. Alabama and LSU probably pay a half million.

  • Well this thread took a turn for the boring. Both teams got caught, move on. Just consider yourselves lucky the punishments received/imposed are mere slaps on the wrist.

OK, lets bring back on point. Tressel is still in the running, but other names that have cropped up are: Chuck Pagano, Ravens DC. Brad Seely, Niners special teams coach. Even Marc Trestman who is coaching in Canada:

Every single major college football and basketball program twists and manipulates the rules and tries to get around them with out getting caught. Every single one of them.

    He got caught.

You hit the nail on the head Z, A majority of the powerhouse programs break or skirt the rules for a competitive advantage. There's just too much money involved in college football and the coaches are pressured to do whatever they can to get the job done.. they ALL do it, and it was just our turn to get pinched.

Pagano it is. I was actually enjoying how off topic this thread turned into but bickering about who's wronger in past transgressions between Ohio State and Michigan is pretty boring. Concerning the SEC, Les Miles is a major NCAA infraction just waiting to happen. I can't wait to see that scumbag crash and burn.

How many illegal hours of practice did Michigan hold this week?

Those actions are worse than what Tressel did, and are an indictment of the university and not just RichRod. It wasn't just "stretching and warm ups" - it was 20+ hours each week. Your penalties weren't "adequate and fair" - get over it, you're wrong.

The entire university of Michigan is nothing but a bunch of lying cheaters, far worse than Ohio State.

Do I really have to go correct this? I am considering it, but I think my effort would just be wasted on you guys.

The NCAA also added more scholarships lost.

I was basing my judgement on what is fair on what a lot of "experts" were saying but also mostly on what happened to USC.

Tressel wasn't required to resign like Carr wasn't required to resign...

Everyone knows the SEC is where rules and ethics go to die

    Oversigning

    Paying players

    Abusing medical hardships....

He was our secondary coach when we gave up a 24-7 lead in a playoff game to Tommy Maddox.

So, he has that going for him...

I don't think we can blame him for that necessarily. It was Butch Davis who decided to go into the prevent defense in the middle of the third quarter over the objection of DC Foge Fazio.

But, if he flops as Colts coach, it is no sweat off my back.
