Surprises At Combine
-
What do you think the biggest surprises are so far. We already have a topic about Floyds 4.4 40 time so lets just skip on that. I think the biggest surprise yesterday was Mike Adams only putting up 19 in the bench press. I won't get too worried until his pro day, but that is about average for a DB and terrible for an O-linemen. For retrospect, Pinkston only put up 19 last year and he was a 5th round pick and expected to only lift that much, where as Adams is about 5 inches taller and was expected to lift around 30.
So far today the biggest surprise is the amount of good 40 times being turned in by WR's. Cunningham from Mich St was only expected to run a mid 4.55 but timed in at 4.47. He has all the physical tools, route running, hands to be good and a solid 2nd round pick. Posey suring in a great 4.37 making him a lock for the late 2nd early 3rd. The most surprising and interesting WR is Hill from Georgia Tech. The guy is 6'4 and ran a 4.3. The only knock on the guy is that he played in a run first offense and only knows a simple route tree. Other than that he is great at jump balls, speed routes, YAC, and hands. He is expected to be a 4th round pick but after timing in he should jump to the third or second. In my opinion either Posey or Hill will be the next Mike Wallace.

Kalil being so impressive...the more i see what he can do...basically a faster quicker stronger Joe Thomas...he is worth the 2...don't think Rams actually want to give him up now.
on the WR my top 6 are
Streeter
McNutt (rookie of the year)
Floyd
Jones
Quick (runner up)
Jefferey(he get the WTF award...if he would have clocked in at 4.52 or better would have put him in top 3 because he can catch but what the F&@* is he doing...probably slept in late or something crazy nut job...might have had a bad case of the nerves and got diarrhea or something too
Blackmon and K.W. probably 9/10
Luck is a lot more athletic then i thought he was very impressive (wow on his broad jump, RG3 almost fell backwards too)
Sanu detroyed his chances... maybe a late 3rd rounder now
Also, very impressed with Cousins...would love to get him in the 2nd round (though he has a terrible spiral, he seems sharp as a tack)
David Wilson is a beast
Top 3 RB
Wilson

Streeter is another one just like Hill, the only difference is that Miami passes alot more so Streeter got a lot more chances, while Hill played in the triople option and only caught 29 passes all year while still producing as much as Streeter. I also was not impressed with Quick. Slow and played against low caliber teams. Jones did good and I was really surprised by McNutt's 40 time. I thought he was going to run over a 4.5 for sure and he is a very solid WR.
Jeffery I don't think is running the 40 until his pro day and I think that was planned. Since it's his weakest area I think his idea is to get more practice in on his starts and make sure people can on get the unofficial times his coaches at SC give him instead of the more accurate 40 times you get at the combine.

GT despite their offensive philosophy produce great WRs. Demarius(sp) Thomas from the broncos attended GT and played in Paul Johnson's triple option offense. I actually see GT's offense as a positive as far as WR prospects go. While WRs from this system might not be constantly running routes, they spend a lot of time blocking for the run game and when they do pass it is for a big play. Most WRs coming into the NFL aren't complete prospects and are going to lack in one or more of the necessary skills needed to become a complete WR. I see those skills as being 1) a playmaker 2)blocking for the run game 3) route running. A #1 WR from GT is going to be proficient at blocking and being a big time playmaker. Route running is important but it's a very teachable skill. If we can get Hill in the 3rd or 4th round I would be extremely happy regardless of what we do in the earlier rounds.

Luck's athleticism surprised me...
The OL depth... looks to be upward of a dozen 1st rounders. Kalil, yes, but DeCastro has the look of a beast... Gerhart (C-AzSt) has the look of a sleeper.
Doug Martin (RB-Boise) posting 28 rep's in the bench press... Keeping an eye on him.

Hill has they most range out of any WR coming into the draft. 6'4 with a 34 in arms and a 39 in vertical gives him almost 12 1/2 feet worth of range. He won't last till the third. Today has thrown him all the way up into the 2nd round, maybe first for a team desperate for WR.
Now that official times came out I'd like to retract my statement on Cunningham and talk about Chris Owusu. He is the #1 WR from Stanford. He has the speed of Hill and a 40 inch vert. He has great route running and hands to boot. The only problem with him is that he missed a lot of his Senior season due to multiple concussions which has driven his stock down considerably. He would be a good pick up in the 5th or 6th round.

Wow I thought Martin was a lot faster than that.

I want Chris Rainey.

Kendall Wright running a 4.6 40. That's insane. I thought he was supposed to be a burner.

There had to be something wrong. I'm waiting on his pro day to see what was up.

Dude, you post the dumbest shit imaginable.
I feel like this deserves a "takes one to know one" type of comment.

I just wish Ghoolie didn't have to hit enter twice after every sentence. Paragraphs are pretty sweet if you ask me.

Haha ya but his favorite thing to do is post a 2 word response and then hit the return key 10 times to make his post extra long and full of nothing. At least he doesn't copy Rich and post one or two words in between ellipses that take up entire lines..

I have been hearing that the Indy track is a "fast track", so maybe it should be no wonder that so many WRs are putting up such good times. That said, if Kendell Wright ran as slow as you all report, then that is, indeed, a head scratcher.

Yea Michael Floyd measured in 5 inches taller and over 20 lbs heavier that Kendall Wright and ran a 4.47 compared to Wright's 4.61... Thats definitely surprising. I think Floyd has cemented his status as the draft's second best receiver with that. His athleticism and size remind me a lot of Greg Little who ran a 4.51 and is similar height/weight to Floyd, they may play different, I havent watched a ton of film on Floyd..

Second best is an understatement I would be shocked if a 4.6 guy who is 5'10 190 went in round 1 even round 2.

...Oh well, RGmock3 is a burner at QB wouldn't make a bad WR if he could catch... 🥷
