If All You Want Is A Top Tier Qb, Then...
-
BTW, Leinart was supposed to be an elite qb. Sanchez was. Alex Smith struggled for years.
McNabb never excelled into an elite qb. Flacco is the only weak link on the ratbirds offense...
it's a huge decision. If they run with RGIII, I'll be a huge RGIII fan.
I want the Browns other picks and FA to fix some major weaknesses.
-
The only one that I disagree with is McNabb...he took the Eagles to the playoffs like 50 seasons in a row, made a super bowl and was in the NFC Championship game several times. I'd call that an elite QB and no matter who the QB of the Browns is, if they can put that kind of career together, I'll be his biggest fan.
-
Why, with Bradford being picked #1 in 2010... did the Rams end up picking two places before the Browns?
All a top qb has to do is show up, eh? Right now, RGIII would have ended up being injured running away from the right tackle
whiffs, throwing to no receivers open because Little was double covered, and there was no time to get open...
with no running game without Hillis.
If the Browns would pick second overall next year...would you regret the Browns picking RGIII, instead of
two other first round picks they could have had, because they traded both picks to move up ... to the Rams' spot ?
-
Because the players you could have had, without that trade up, would be TWO weak parts of the Browns fixed.
Now, I won't say Colt was a weak link... any qb under pressure, without an open receiver, and no running game....
gets hammered.
Flacco, Sanchez, Eli Manning, were all written about as being possible busts. And they had weapons.
Brian Sipe and Bernie Kosar... Bill Nelson? were terrific qbs because they were smart, and were field generals.
I DO really like RGIII. But he will need the RT fixed, and the WR crew fixed... and that's harder to do with a trade up.
I don't see a trade up, unless the Browns decide that RGIII is the real deal they can't pass up.
Whatever they decide, I'm a big fan of their football smarts decision.
I still say, that Colt will still start next season until he falters on his own weaknesses/mistakes, and RGIII takes the helm,
and hopefully, would grow into a superstar.
Just what I think.

Cal, the Browns aren't going to trade up unless they're convinced RGIII is the real deal- a franchise level guy they can plug into the qb position for the next 10 years.
Regarding Bradford- maybe he's not as good as the Rams thought he was. #1 overall qb picks do underachieve you know, see: Couch, Tim.
If it's a worst case scenario and the Browns are forced to give up both first rounders- or maybe a little more- would you trade both first round picks for a Warren Moon? I would.
WR can be addressed in the second round and RT in the third. Don't forget we have two fourth round picks, and it would be easy enough to package one of them with the third rounder to move back up into the low second round.
BTW, if we draft Griffin, he's the starter from day one. Bradford & Newton played all 16 games as rookies.

Based on this thread, why draft any player in 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th round??
We should just politely pass on all of our picks in the first four rounds in fear of them being a bust. At least the picks from the 5th round on come with negligible expectations, so we can't be too disappointed if they fail.
You all continue to post nonsense. You all are bullishly tying to play devil's advocate to drafting RGIII -- for what reason?
Hmmm... I think I know why.

yeah because we all hate you and are making it a personal vendetta to pressure the FO (with all our weight and contacts) to make sure we don't draft him just to piss you off in hopes that you don't show your ashy black elbows around here no mo. chigga.
get lost pleez.

I think I'm going to make a thread in your honor...lol.

this thread is beyond stupid. Bradford was dealing with a serious injury the whole season that they treated absolutely Retarded and caused him to miss way more games than he should have. I'm not saying they're playoff bound if he's healthy the whole year but i guarantee they're picking after us in the draft. Self admittedly by the rams and bradford even many of the games he played he shouldn't have. The lions sucked without stafford then wow oh wow when he's healthy they're going to the playoffs. Look I can accept the building around talent argument with valid points, but this is just plain stupid. To assume a QB is going to get hurt is ridiculous and misinformed.

Whoa whoa whoa. Sanchez and Leinart were NEVER projected to be elite quartebacks.

Whoa! Whoa! Whoa! Whoa! And wait just a minute! DawginiT, you say that “Sanchez and Leinart were NEVER projected to be elite quartebacks.” NEVER? NEVER? NEVER? Just thought I would drop in some little goodies to prove you wrong.
Comments re: Leinert -- “One of the most NFL-ready prospects to ever enter the draft.” “Solid NFL arm strength and terrific accuracy. Very refined throwing mechanics. Perfect size for an NFL quarterback.” “The kind of guy teams want as ‘the face of the franchise’." “All things considered, Matt Leinart is an elite-level quarterback prospect.” [Emphasis mine]
Comments about Sanchez. While the case for Sanche is not as cut and dried as the case for Leinert, it is obvious that the Jets considered him pretty elite,
“The Jets were smitten [with Mark Sanchez]. The trouble was, other teams were [also] smitten with Sanchez In exchange for the fifth pick [from Cleveland], the Jets gave up the 17th pick, their second-round selection and three players: defensive end Kenyon Coleman, safety Abram Elam and quarterback Brett Ratliff. ,,,, “With Mark, I think he’s a special guy,” Ryan said.
“Sanchez was considered by some to be an even greater talent than Georgia's Matthew Stafford,”
“Physically, he has everything NFL teams covet in a QB prospect.”
“Some say he might be the best quarterback prospect in this draft, though it may not mean he’d be selected before Stafford.
“BEST PICK: Southern Cal QB Mark Sanchez seems to have all the tools.”

Despite what people say, defense still wins championships. The Giants defense is what gave them the foray to the Super Bowl.
Yes, you need complemenary offensive firepower, but defense in primordial.
If the Browns picked 2 studs on defense in the first round, it would not break my heart...despite, yes, knowing that we need help on offense.
I guess the answer to me is to follow the Steeler model: emphasize defense, then get your QB.
Does anyone think that there will not be a Ben Roethlisberger in next year's draft. I believe there will be.
