Set A:
Mark Rypien
Matt Hasselbeck
Rich Gannon
Brad Johnson
Chris Chandler
Neil O'Donnell
Jeff Hostetler
Doug Williams
Tony Eason
David Woodley
Rex Grossman
Set B:
Jamarcus Russell
Vince Young
David Carr
Joey Harrington
Tim Couch
Akili Smith
Ryan Leaf
Heath Shuler
Rick Mirer
Jeff George
Art Schlicter
Jack Thompson
Mike Phipps
Which set do you choose: Set A who are QBs that took their teams to the Super Bowl despite not being considered HOF caliber QBs.
Or Set B: the sure fire can't miss, taken with the first 5 picks of the first round since 1970 QBs.
You do not get to select from Set B:
Eli Manning
Donovan McNabb
Kerry Collins
Peyton Manning
Steve McNair
Drew Bledsoe
Troy Aikman
John Elway
Jim McMahon
Jim Plunkett
Terry Bradshaw
These are Top 5 QBs who were taken in the Top 5 who did take their team to a SB.
Sure, if you can guarantee inclusion in the latter group, you might be willing to pay a king's ransom.
But, if you pay the ransom....you may still end up with a dead King.

A subscriber to the 'throw enough shit at the wall and some of it will stick' theory eh? Is rg3 drunk enough to say yes to Cleveland? Only time will tell.
What do you suggest?
What do you suggest?
I suggest they do whatever tom heckert wants. You make it sound like the fans have a say. We don't.

What's your point? I just said that there are no guarantees. But I'd rather take a chance, after doing thorough research on someone I think will take me to the promised land. Most Super Bowl winners are first round QB's. Drafting 3rd round QB's is not the way to build a consistent winner. It's the exception not the rule.

These fans you speak of are in denial about their fear/ignorance. They will continue to make excuses for mediocrity.

I think some of us would be pleased by a little mediocrity at this point.

So, dudes with less posts than I have are railing against "Browns fans" now? Priceless.
"Emotionally damaged?" Damn, folks, I got one, look up psychological projection.
Psychological projection or projection bias is a psychological defense mechanism where a person subconsciously denies his or her own attributes, thoughts, and emotions, which are then ascribed to the outside world, usually to other people. Thus, projection involves imagining or projecting the belief that others originate those feelings.Sorry to go all Freud on ya, yet you are so worked up that a thread must be created to describe it, but its others who are the problem? Hmmm, now tell me about your mother....
Amateur Psychology Weekly just doesn't cut it does it? So let's stick to FOOTBALL Browns Fans! No more creepy descriptions of hitting on every chick in a place, some of us have sisters and nieces.
And, seriously, the emotional damage was done in the 90s. The restoration occurred in 99. Believe it or not, this messed up situation is gravy compared to 1997. I remember!

My point is simple: Over 50% of Top 5 drafted QBs turn bust.
And I could probably extrapolate that and say that over 50% of all first and second round NFL draft picks at all positions turn bust.
The Browns have 3 picks in the first two rounds.
What I want them to do is to play the odds.
If the Browns use there #4 and #22 and/or #37 to go up and get RG...we have about a 55% chance that we will have used all three draft picks on one single bust of a player.
If they keep all three to pick three players, their chances of getting at least 1 or two real quality players goes up exponentially.
Take RG at 4, sure, but also get X at 22 and Y at 37. If RG busts, we at least have X and Y to help this team. Trade 22 and 37 and 4 to get RG, and if he is one of the 55% of Top 5 busts, then we have no RG, no X and no Y.
-
Even if we sell the farm to draft RG3 - Who is going to protect him? Who is he going to throw to? How is our defense with no upgrades cos we traded the farm away going to prevent the other teams offense from scoring? How is Shurmur's playbook going to affect RG3? What if RG3 flops?
There is nothing wrong with taking risks When you are in a position to do so. The Browns are not in a position to do so. Unless RG3 can throw the ball then run to the other side and catch the ball too I think we are not going to win 8 matches with RG3 being in the same team esp with a tougher schedule.
-
This has been beat to death, I can't wait for the draft to be over.
If they sell the farm on RG3 & he is a bust, they're out of a job. If it works out, and we become contenders, wonderful. If they stand pat & become contenders with a solid draft, wonderful. If they stand pat & draft like crap, they're out of a job.
Whatever scenario, I'm a Browns fan for life.

you know what it is bob? these guys who love their college team guys, look to find out on the mock drafts where they might end up, jump on that team's forum and just talk and talk and start new threads everyday reaping the athleticism and attributes of their guy even though they have no idea of what the browns have been through in the past couple of decades, don't know squadoosh about who's on the team but if the browns pick their guy, all our problems will be over and we'll owe it all to them.
i say they should all go F themselves.

Years of losing have caused some Browns fans to stop using logical reasoning and become emotional wusses. Some fans are so scared to take any chances because of failures in the past. Tim Couch is retired. Quinn is no longer on the team. These past failures have nothing to do with the 2012 NFL draft. Only emotionally damaged Cleveland fans would rather make 100 excuses to "play it safe" and not take a chance. People who don't take chances are losers. Real champions don't let past failures affect them for long.
Imagine you asked out a hot girl on a date and got rejected. Yes, the failure hurts. So what do you do, go home and play video games because there's a chance all the girls except the fat ones might reject you? No. That's what a loser would do. Losers would make excuses to go home by saying that women are overrated and playing video games is more fun. Losers would say that they don't need a woman while they sit at home alone on a Friday night surfing the internet with one hand on the mouse and the other hand somewhere else.
A real stud would forget about the stupid slut who rejected him and move on to the next hot chick. Eventually, he would find a chick who would say yes. Real champions never give up and never stop trying because they know that one day they will succeed. A stud would rather fail with every chick in the bar than willingly throw in the towel and go home. At least he tried.
Browns fans need to stop making excuses and take a chance on a playmaker. It makes me sad to hear fans talk about trading for more picks to fill holes instead of drafting a potential game-changer. Its unbelievable that some people want to draft a RT in the 1st round, or save our picks and get an equally unproven 7th rounder Matt Flynn. The saddest are the fans who hope Colt will one day be good, though deep down they know he won't. Ironically, these are the same fans who will whine about sucking next year.
I want the Browns to at least try to make a bold move to get a guy they really want. Hopefully it will work out. Past failures have nothing to do with the present. The dumb slut who turned you down for prom I'm sure didn't stop anyone from asking out girls in college. Likewise, former draft busts have no bearing on the 2012 draft. There are no guarantees in life. That's why you have to be bold and take chances.

There's a difference between being BOLD and being RECKLESS.
Snyder may make a STUPID offer value wise to get RGIII, should we top his stupidity? As my hero Mr. Spock would say, "logic would dictate not." I'm all for taking a reasonable shot to get RGIII- but not at any price. IMHO, the two firsts, and next years second is as high as I'm willing to go without mortgaging the Browns future in the event RGIII busts- and it COULD happen.

Agree...I'm not sure about the last sentence, but I respect your view.
The best part about the draft being over, is we should get the schedule for 2012 soon after. ROAD TRIP....Dallas (if it's affordable), maybe Indy.

First, I would never have pegged you as a "trekkie"... so at least I got that outta this thread.
Second, still too high a price for me. I'm still in the trade down camp. If RG is still there at 4, that 4 will be worth plenty.

What? Everyone knows that a hoorta is straight out of Star Trek....at least any Trekkie would know that.

I agree. I will give up a 3rd rounder to move up 2 spots, but not more than that. I mean, why should the Browns bid against themselves. I doubt that anyone has actually made an offer to obtain that pick from the Rams. I mean, the Rams can ask for the stars, the moon, and the deep blue sea but if the Browns offer to give them just their #4 and a third rounder...who is to say that won't be the best offer.
Its like buying a house. I say that it is appraised at 150K. Why, just because the present owner wants 400K for it, should I think for a moment that I should meet that demand. Sell it for 150K or not. He says not, we say, 160K and that is it. I am not going to give 400K for a 150-160K house. If someone else is foolish enough to pay that price, let them...and when it is found out to be termite infested, too bad for them.

Maybe the originator of this thread thinks that this should be the official theme song of Browns fans?:
