Qb's Forgotten/unknown!

  • I was always impressed with Danny White... Arguably the last 4 down offensive player in league history. The guy's won/loss record is astounding.

Later... I find it interesting that people seem to forget how good Jim Everett was for stretches of his 12 year career. I think his propensity to hover around a 1 to 1 TD to Int ratio belies the fact that he piloted an explosive offense, and he could sling it around.

Yeah, thank you because I was trying to think of his name (Danny White)...then David Woodley(Dolphins) came to mind as well...another guy I wanted on my list was Seahawks QB Dave Krieg..when he was hot...He could win games all by himself.

  • I was always a Danny White fan as well when I was a kid. PRobably my favorite player who didn't play for the Browns.

  • Dawson got his recognition by being put in the HOF, so I don't know that he should be included in your list.

And I do remember that the Cardinals...who shared a division with the Browns for some time...always seemed to have a gunslinger at QB. You mentioned Hart and Lomax, but don't forget Charley Johnson as well.

Some of this is due to them being coached by Don Coryell.

Other "forgotten" slingers include The Mad Bomber, Daryl Lamonica.

Dave Kreig has massive career numbers.

John Brodie was the forerunner of the Stanford QBs to come (Plunkette, Elway, Luck)

Dandy Don Meredith was a good QB before he became a TV personality. (He was the other QB in the Ice Bowl)

Craig Morton was the Kurt Warner of his day...the only other QB to lead 2 different teams to the SB.

  • At the point where we put put Dave Kreig and Danny White on the list why would we not put Kosar on there? he had similar careers to those guys. The only reason he isn't forgotten to us is because he is Brown. He is forgotten to most non Browns fans though ... atleast as much as those guys.

Also I would like to add Ken O'Brien to the list

And Don Majikowski as honorable mention

Kosar's name came up on ESPN today. I believe it was Polian talking about when he was scouting Manning back in 98. Evidently Manning reminded him of Kosar or something like that. Getting back to the point, I wouldn't say Kosar is a forgotten QB. I had heard his name before I became a Browns fan and I'm only 24 so I didn't get the opportunity to see him play.

Well...you missed watching...Atleast for Me,One of the most obscure and exciting QB's that came out of college. He was anything but "routine" or Prototypical" for a QB. Physically he was a living nightmare in stature. And by that I mean he was insanely gangly and awkward looking. He had pizza feet and everytime he dropped back to pass, He looked like he was gonna fall on his ass. He had a throwing motion that would look anything but pretty with a 3/4 side arm delivery. Much like Billy Kilmer or Sonny Jurgenson. But he was ungodly football intelligent and used the blitz to his advantage. Kosar wanted to play here and he was workman like. much like the City of Cleveland. You couldnt help but root for the kid who had so much stacked against him,Much like myself. But somehow found a way to get it done.

Bill Polian said while scouting Peyton Manning, "He's such a safe pic, if he misses, he'll be Bernie Kosar."

People that forget these guys are either 12 years old or don't know football. The Majik man was some of the best comeback football I've ever seen.

  • I think both guys lose some mojo because, while their careers were relatively long, they had only a few flashes of really good football sprinkled in to otherwise undistinguished careers.

  • A few other "forgotten QBs" that come to mind:

Ken Anderson. One of the most accurate ever.

    Babe Parilli

Jim Zorn. He always kicked the Browns ass whenever they played.

Marc Wilson. He was kind of forgotten in the line of Raider QBs following Blanda, Lamonica, Plunkett, Stabler....but he held his own with that tradition.

Jack Kemp. People recall that he led the Buffalo Bills to 2 AFL titles, but forget that he also QBd the Chargers in an AFL Title game in 1961. Oh, yea, they also remember him running for Vice President...and President.

Also, FYI, on Frank Ryan: He has the third highest TD pass percentage in history, succeeded only by Sid Luckman and Frankie Albert.

I liked watch Everett ready to sling fists after being repeatedly called Chris Everett while being interviewed by Jim Rome.

  • I cant forget Ken Stabler who was a Nickel and Dime ya passer down the field, much like Kosar.
