The Browns Board

  • I woke up with a chub, great way to start the weekend!

The Rams are gonna surround Bradford with alot of high draft pick's via Washington. There gonna be tough in a few years. The Redskins lived up to their name...they got burnt....tan line looks good though.

I'm gonna break the trade down for some of you guys and maybe dispel a few misconceptions.

First off the Skins did not give up 3 1st rd picks. Whoever says that is a fucktard and can't count. Swapping picks means the Skins have 1,3,4,4,5,6,7 in this draft. A 2,3,4,5,5,6,7 in 2013 and 2,3,4,5,6,7 in 2014. By that time We will know whether RG3 is legit or not. If he is he will only be 24 and we are back to .normal amount of picks. These picks also do not take into account compensatory picks if we somehow lose Laron Landry and L.Fletcher. Also our 2nd rd DE from 2011 draft was hurt after a promising pre-season and missed the season so the way I see it our draft this year is complete in actual players. Add in the foresight to get way below the cap in FA year that is unprecedented in terms of quality and quantity and you see a smart plan coming together.

Second, it's a passing league now. You don't win championships or division titles without a franchise qb, consistently. You Brown fans should know that better than anyone. The Skins have been relatively bad for the last 20yrs. We have tried building a team from the trenches out then plug in a late 1st rd qb to manage the game. That chit rarely works and not for long. We tried the old vet.FA type, same chit. Look at Pittsburgh before Big Ben. Good team/great supporting cast but mired in mediocrity. Same for the Ravens while shuffling through the K. Boller types. I could go on about 0-16 to playoffs in 3yrs. after hitting on a qb...ahemmm Detroit. All this brings me to my last

point. Who besides Luck or RG3 in this years draft or FA is going to pull a desperate team out of the basement and that can provide long term success and consistency? All those who say if RG3 busts it puts the Skins behind 5 yrs is full of chit. What if Colt doesnt pan out this year and you have to draft one next year? Guess what genuis, by the time the rook gets a couple to see if he busts you will have spent the better part of 4yrs your own self with qbs who do not have the POTENTIAL that RG3 brings.

One more thing, drafting 1st rounders is not an exact science. For all I know our next 2 1st rd we would have drafted could be busts...like say Carlos Rogers,Lavar Arrington,Landry to a certain extent....anyways Im sure the Browns arent exactly batting a thousand with there picks either. Forget the old SKins you once knew. Our last 2 drafts by Allen and Shannahan has produced promising young players not drafted in the 1st.

  • Its heartwarming to see these Skins fans saying the things we've been saying after every draft.

Things like "We're no longer the same old Skins!" or "Playoffs, here we come!".

It makes RG3 busting all the more sweeter. I'm glad you guys prevented us from making a huge mistake.

Not too much. Got a couple friends who are Browns fans so I'm just trying to keep my thumb on the pulse. It's weird posting on both boards at the same time, need to keep my thoughts straight. 😁

Nice post RGIII in DC. You a poster on ES too?

Yeah around free agency and draft time every year, I start checking out other team's boards. I don't normally post but people are mocking the trade all over the internets, and it's been killing me. I was dying to say something to someone, somewhere. It just happened to be here that a post motivated me to actually register and finally defend the Skins.

Plus, as residents of the DC area, I kinda feel like it's our duty to bring civilization to the masses. There's no reason Cleveland should be stuck in the '80's. It's just not fair.

Good luck dropping $40 mil on Matt Flynn. He really showed a lot in his two career starts.

  • Jesus Christ this isn't a Redskins board. We get it you made the trade. Good for you. Now please fuck off. DC bringing civilization to anybody is comedy of the highest order. I'd expect that smug sense of self importance from a Texan, a New Yorker, or even a Californian but from DC? Please.

NO, actually, it's the BROWNS who better win some Titles. The Redskins are a more successful franchise than the Browns. They have given a lot for top picks before, AND it has broguth them success.

This is another thing people need to realize - it's not about having a shitload of high picks, otherwise your team would have won something this decade, and the 49ers would have won the 3rd of their 3 Super Bowls this year, instead of taking 5 years to break .500 in the shittiest division in football. It's about getting impact players, however you find them. Would people be talking shit about our big FA signings if they had worked out? Nope, don't think so. It's about picking the players correctly - which we did when we would trade first round picks for seemingly washed up guys like Marshall and Lachey, not about having 14 picks, which we did in 2008 drafting such stars as Devin Thomas and Justin Tryon.

I'm not sure what that's supposed to mean:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Washington_Metropolitan_Area

The Washington Metropolitan Area is the most educated and by some measures, the most affluent metropolitan area in the United States.[3]

And before you go off on some anti-wikipedia rant, they're called footnotes.

But yeah, I'm just trying to help.

With Lebron leaving, I'm impressed that anarchy and cannibalism have been avoided. That shows that there is potential, but I think it's going to take a lot of hardwork to make sure it still doesn't get to that point; especially when it becomes apparent to all that you missed out on a franchise QB. Then it's going to be next to impossible to then get things going in a positive direction, but we can dream. One step at a time baby. One step at a time.

It's funny how the mood changes when you can't get him.

The big difference is now we have an elite QB. You still have McCoy (or Flynn).

All you get to do is HOPE RG3 busts, because otherwise you'll be eating a lot of crow.

Elite QB? You don't have shit yet. He isn't an elite QB until he proves that he is at the NFL level. All you guys did is ship a buttload of picks for the CHANCE that he will be a franchise QB.

That's cute. It really is. So tell me how is it "civilized" to come to another city's football board and take pot shots at said city? How is it "civilized" to live in a city that is constantly in the middle of some type of bribery or corruption case? Dude you live in DC. Your city is littered with scumbags (aka politicians, lobbyist) who make a living attempting to trick and deceive not only each other but every honest American. Your city is on the map purely for importing scumbags from every state in the union in an attempt to "run" our country. DC is known for corruption, dysfunction, and monuments to great people who aren't even from DC. Besides the monuments, if that's the brand of civilization you're trying to export then I'll gladly pass.

Yes. Walterfootball is the be all end all of any discussion. 🙄 RG3 has a better chance of being a franchise qb than Colt, and that chance is a hell of a lot bigger. That being said, he is still unproven. You guys are walking away as the victors here, today, but none of this matters until August.

  • Wow. Obviously you've never been to the DC area (of if you have, you never left the Mall) and you know absolutely nothing about the city. You should come check it out sometime. Who knows, you might even decide to stay.

Secondly, clearly you don't have a sense of humor, nor do you understand sarcasm.

And lastly, I explained why I'm posting here at the top of the page.

If you can find a single NFL site or journalist who says we gave up too much in the trade, I'd love to see it. That's the point. Walter Football, a very respected site, is just the clearest, most straight-forward example I found.

I never said you gave up too much (I don't think you did). The fact is, RG3 is still unproven in the NFL. You have no evidence to tell me otherwise.

I have seen plenty of writers out there who have said the Browns were smart in not making the trade, I have seen plenty of writers say that the Redskins would have just kept adding picks until the trade was made, and I have also seen plenty writers report that the Browns did offer 3 1st and a 2nd and were actually turned down because of your two teams buddy buddy shit. I am actually very happy we didn't make the trade, now we can get 4 great players with those picks like we have in the past two seasons and if McCoy doesn't show improvement we can pick from one of the 3 great QB's that are set to come out next season.

I've lived in DC as a child and spent a summer living up there with family a few years back. Its undoubtedly a beautiful city with a lot of history. Unfortunately that doesn't trump the political nonsense that occurs on a daily basis making it difficult to be in a position, as a citizen, to look down on citizens of other cities. Basically it boils down to this: DC has more negatives then positives. Perhaps it requires an outsiders perspective to realize this by I assumed (maybe wrongly) that most residents of DC would be able to see this, since, you know, the Washington Metropolitan area is the most educated.

I find no humor in ragging on Cleveland because quite frankly, its played out. We get it, its not the luckiest town in America. As far as you posting here, you and your other Redskins buddies spent nearly half a page talking about what your handles are on the Redskins forum. Considering you want to talk about the Redskins doesn't it make a little more sense to do it on the Redskins forum?

My take on this debate; a Franchise type QB, with RG3's potential, is worth a lot. The Skins are taking a big risk, but they have the face for their franchise and I'm sure the fanbase is excited. Deservedly so.

Cleveland moved too slow. RG3 was theirs for the taking and it would have been a HUGE shot in the arm for them (just like it is for the Redskins). I think they were too confident that time was on their side and misjudged the trade process in many aspects.

At the same time, this isn't a killer for Cleveland. The defense is good. They keep some premium picks. I'm not sure how the QB position shakes out for the Browns, and 2012 is potentially another sketchy season, but pick up some pieces via the draft (last years draft was great) and find that QB somehow somewhere. Maybe Colt emerges? He's still a young guy and it takes time at this position.

I like Cleveland and rooting for them.
