Trent Richardson
-
sadly, i think these idiots in charge will pick this guy....
Well, if the Browns lose Hillis....or let him go, they WILL need a RB. They sure as hell cannot be relying on Hardesty and Obanaya.
If they let Hillis go, it may even be a sign that TR (Trent Richardson, not Teddy Roosevelt) is high on their list...
...if they do resign Hillis, then it is doubtful that TR will be on their radar.
-
its useless trying to explain what a waste of a pick this would be....i dont care how good he is. our offense does not utilize a RB 30 times a game...15 is more like it.
keep your faith in the FO that has done little but fuck up repeatedly.

If Hillis is gone - I don't see us passing this guy up... unless we trade down to 6 so the Rams can get Blackmon...
In which case, we STILL might have a chance to grab him!
At 5'11 and only 220 pounds, he has a power clean of over 365 pounds, a 600 pound squat, and a bench press of 475 pounds all to go along with lightning quick speed of a 4.4 40 yard dash. His coach has said that he picked up the 365 lbs. like it was a toothpick.

So what I'm getting from this post is that he is strong and can lift weights. That's good for linemen but really doesn't do much for me regarding a RB. Now if he was running a 4.4 40 with 600lbs on his back running through a brick wall then I would be intrigued. I've heard more about his weight room numbers then I have about his on the field numbers (the only numbers that count.)

Jaded much?
no...
just lamenting the sad state of affairs this franchise is in going into offseason #3 for the walrus. not matching an offer is one thing....playing games and coming to the table too late because of a measly 2nd round pick is downright pathetic. they have once again, mismanaged the most important position on the field....
being upset at their incompetence is not being jaded....its admitting the facts.

RG3nOut is going to be a bust and the Redskins will have overpaid yet again in their quest for respect...
Richardson will light the Browns on fire charging through holes Hillis was too big to hit, burn the defense from the outside and power through unwitting tacklers on pursuit to multiple TDs a game. That's more than you could ever hope for out of a runningback and I endorse the selection of Trent Richardson.
T-1000 will rack up 1000 yards by midseason, bank on it.

tell me you don't get chills imagining him in the orange and browns doing this to the Steelers and Ravens TWICE a year and shoving a stiff arm down the Bengals throat. With Trent Richardson, Colt continuing to grow and the Development of our WR corp and the shoring up the right side of the OL(Pashos is already gone- Thank God), the Browns have a real shot at sweeping the division!

You don't pick a running back this high. It is a waste of a pick. He's not even as good as AP. Short shelf life, why not pick someone who will be just as productive in the third round. Seriously, look at where the top 30 RB's in the league were picked.
Apete top 10
CJ 24th pick
M. Lynch 12th pick
C. Benson 4th pick
R. Bush 2nd pick
R. Rice 2nd rd 55 pick
R. Mathews 12th pick
J. Stewart 13th pick
D. Williams 27th pick
M. Forte 2nd 44 pick
A. Foster udfa
J. Charles 3rd 73 pick
D. McFadden 4th pick
F. Gore 3rd rd 65 pick
MJD 2nd rd 60 pick
W. McGahee 23rd pick
M. Ingram 28th pick
F. Jackson udfa
11 first round picks, RB's like every other position CAN be found in the later rounds. But I think the gap between trich and the other RB's is alot wider than the gap between Blackmon and the other wr in this draft, some might argue that Floyd is right there with JB.

Look where many of the RBs in the HOF are picked, most high in the first round. In fact, here is the draft selection order of all the RBs in the HOF:
#1 Earl Campbell
#1 OJ Simpson
#1 Charley Trippi
#1 Paul Hornung
#1 Bill Dudley
#2 George McAfee
#2 Eric Dickerson
#2 Marshall Faulk
#2 Tony Dorsett
#3 Barry Sanders
#3 Doak Walker
#3 Ollie Matson
#4 Walter Payton
#4 Gale Sayers
#5 Steve Van Buren
#6 Jim Brown
#6 John Riggins
#6 Floyd Little
#8 Larry Csonka
#9 Lenny Moore
#9 Hugh McElhenny
#10 Marcus Allen
#11 Frank Gifford
#13 Franco Harris
#15 Jim Taylor
#17 Emmitt Smith
#18 John Henry Johnson
#18 Tuffy Leemans
#40 Thurman Thomas
#74 Curtis Martin
#77 Tony Canadeo
#84 Bobby Mitchell
#110 Leroy Kelly
FA: Marion Motley
FA: Joe Perry
Perry and Motley were those WWII era, black players that the NFL shyed away from, but which the AAFC did not. That is why they are undrafted FAs.
So, based on this I would say that if you want a Hall of Fame caliber RB, best to draft them very high in the first round.

Today's game and even the game as recently as Emmitt Smith played are two different animals.

Compare the HOF RBs draft selection positions to those of the QBs:
#1 Bradshaw
#1 Elway
#1 Aikman
#1 Namath, in AFL draft, taken #12 in NFL draft
#1 Steve Young in Supplemental Draft
#2 Sid Luckman
#3 Bobby Layne
#4 Bob Griese
#4 Otto Graham (by Lions in NFL, signed as FA with AAFC)
#5 Len Dawson
#6 Y.A. Tittle
#6 Sammy Baugh
#13 Ace Parker
#14 Jim Kelly
#27 Marino
#29 Tarkenton
#37 Van Brocklin
#42 Bob Waterfield
#43 Sonny Jurgenson
#82 Joe Montana
#84 Dan Fouts
#102 John Unitas
#119 George Blanda
#129 Roger Staubach (4 year Navy commitment depressed his draft position)
#200 Bart Starr
FA Warren Moon
It appears to me that a team is more likely to find a HOF caliber lower in the draft than they are a HOF caliber RB.

I've been on record on being in love with Trent. I honestly think the guy has more ability and talent than AP not to mention he played in the toughest division against high caliber talent consistently. I also think after RGIII, Luck and Kalil he's the best best prospect in this draft. I'm on the side of saying taking a RB that high is dangerous, but don't doubt this guy's ability. He could be an immediate game changer player for the browns should we decide to take him.

A damned good runner is a damned good runner, I don't care when they played.
Sure, even back in "olden days" a damn good runner didn't guarantee anything in the way of victory. OJ never won a title, Campbell never did. Dickerson, Sanders, Sayers, Johnson, many didn't win titles.
But even those who did were all part of a good overall team.
So, no, there is no guarantee that a fabulous runner will win you a title.
But it sure helps.
