  • The updates on the Peyton Manning Watch are coming in fast and furious.

According to various reports, the Denver Broncos are meeting with Manning on Friday at Duke University and will watch him throw. And, the Denver Post reported, the team is offering him a five-year, $60 million contract.

The biggest surprise is that San Francisco 49ers have entered the chase. ESPN reported that the Niners watched him work out and gave him a physical this week.

Meanwhile, Manning has said no to the Dolphins, according to Jeff Darlington of NFL.com. Manning reportedly called the Dolphins on Thursday night and told them he would not be signing with them. The Arizona Cardinals also appear to be out of the running.

The Broncos, Tennessee Titans and now the 49ers appear to be the three finalists, though the Broncos and Titans remain the favorites. NFL Network reported that Manning is also expected to work out for the Titans, though a date has not been set.

Salary cap issues would make it extremely difficult for the Cardinals to keep Kolb and pay Manning as well. So if Kolb stays, it’s a signal that the Cardinals are out of the Manning sweepstakes.

Meanwhile, the courtship of Manning continues. Broncos executive vice president John Elway, coach John Fox and other Denver staffers arrived at Duke this afternoon for another meeting with Manning, according to reports.

Duke head coach David Cutcliffe told The Tennessean that Manning is throwing the football very well, and the Broncos want to see for themselves. Cutcliffe was Manning’s offensive coordinator at the University of Tennessee.

Manning’s decision to nix the Dolphins is not a surprise, considering how his free agent tour unfolded. While Manning traveled to Denver, Arizona and Tennessee to meet with front office officials and coaches, he never visited the Dolphins, who came to visit Manning in Indianapolis. Manning simply met with several Dolphins coaches, but neither owner Stephen Ross nor general manager Jeff Ireland were at that meeting.

With Manning off their radar, the Dolphins may pursue free agent quarterback Matt Flynn. Flynn worked with new Dolphins coach Joe Philbin in Green Bay, where Philbin was offensive coordinator before taking the Miami job.

  • Im surprised Dallas and JJ arent after him.

  • SF is only a surprise if you weren't thinking. From the get-go I named them and TN.

I wonder how much of DNV's supposed offer (which strikes me as a tad low) is guaranteed money?
