My Case For Cyrus Gray

The Browns Board

  • The kid is patient, shifty and fast.

He sets up blocks very well, has very good hands and picks up blitzes.

Should be available in Round 3.

I've been saying he has Roger Craig potential in the WCO.

Biggest issue he'd present as a pick of ours is his number.

Since some are posting a certain RB's vid's left and right, here are a couple from a slightly less well-known RB.

Hey, a twofer- you get to see some of Tannehill besides, who doesn't look all that bad- um someone was posting Colts college vids.

    Just sayin'. 🙂

  • LOL... yeah those shuttle passes were right on the money... 😉

Just figured most on the board don't really know Cyrus, if they've seen him at all. So rather than get obnoxious in dribbles and drabs, I'd get it all out of the way in one swell foop... or at least one thread...

The one is a 'highlight reel' so it's gonna showcase him. But the ratio of good to bad in the scouting vid is telling. The kid is solid.

And those were 2010 games. I think he had an even better 2011... except for passing... where he fell from 1/1 to 0/1... 😎

So what did you think of what you saw... of Cyrus?

  • not bad really he impressed me with his ability to use his blocks and cut the right way most of the time seems kinda quick too id like to see more of if he could catch the ball cause colt likes 3 yard passes. id rather lamichael james cause he seems faster and bore of a backfield catch threat and last time there was a guy with the last name james in this town the team seemed to do pretty good!

  • i watched him at every home game this season, he plays hard with emotion, powerful runner. I'd love to pick him up 3rd round or later

  • This would be a badass acquisition. I think he has a ton of potential and his little brother is going to be even better.

Cyrus had 103 career catches at A&M. He has very good hands.

Howdy... My daughter spent 5 years, and a lot of my money, in College Station. 😁

I miss Freebirds burritos... and Lanes Chicken fingers...

  • An Aggie decides to raise chickens. So, he goes to the feed store and buys some chicks. He takes the chicks home, and plants them with their heads sticking up. He waters them, but they die. He goes back to the feed store and tells the proprietor that he bought defective chicks, and gets another set. This time he plants them with their heads sticking down. He waters them, but they die. He then sends a letter to his Alma Mater, describing the problem. They send a letter back asking for a soil sample.

    😛

So what was wrong with the soil?

  • Haha, I'm a Texas State student and actually almost was a sip until I decided to go to TSU for grad school instead of UT but everybody in Texas loves a good Aggie joke! In all honesty, some of my best friends are Aggies; I've even been a groomsman at an Aggie wedding and played a gig for the Corps of Cadets Ball. So, much love to the Ags. That said, here's another gem. . .

Did you hear about the skeleton they just found in an old building at College Station? It was the 1938 hide and seek champion.

I didn't know there was a school named Texas State. Where is it? It clearly has a low sports profile compared to other Texas Schools.

Haha good thing I'm not a student athlete but yeah TSU sucks in comparison to UT, A&M, and Baylor, we're in San Marcos outside of Austin. We did move into DI this year though. Oh and suck my dick.

My school is not without its merits though. . .a spring fed river runs through campus and all the girls suntan in their bathing suits out on the front lawn. People regularly skateboard or bike to get where they're going here. About a month ago, in February, we were getting 85 degree weather. We're nestled in the Texas Hill Country and we're within driving distance of about 15-20 different wineries; its a really cool area. Texas State was formally Southwest Texas State until the school name became synonymous with partying and the board decided to change the official name of the campus. The town is almost all independently owned businesses and there is a cool brewery scene in town. Very small-town college-y atmosphere. I came to TSU as a grad student because of the opportunities that I was offered and the GA position and scholarship, I like it here. I was talking with a fellow grad student of mine (who used to play QB at NDSU and PG at Marquette a while back) and he was telling me that he cant believe the difference in the quality of life (he's from Wisconsin) and women. I think we have something good going for us here in this part of Texas. That and there is top-notch BBQ in Lockhart, Texas, down the street. L.B.J, Bill Paxton, George Strait, Powers Boothe, and Tomas Rivera are all alumni.

The only thing from Texas is Steers and Queers, and i don't see any horns on you.

If he were to play in Cleveland Stadium he could be nicknamed Cyrus Erie.

(for those of you old enough, you will know that Cyrus Erie was the name of a legendary local rock band that was a pre-Raspberries Eric Carmen/Wally Bryson band):

I understod that it was officially called University of Texas-San Marcos. I was aware of LBJ attending there....as I am somewhat of a Presidential trivialist. I think it was called Southwest Texas Teachers College when he attended.

And FYI, Texas State sucks compared to Trinity University in San Antonio (Tigers?).....which happens to be where my daughter will be enrolling in the fall. My sister in law lives in Spring Branch.

  • Haha, I'd put money on a game between Trinity and Texas State and give TXSt odds. I think Coach Fran would pull out ghe win, although Trinity has been dominant in their division for years. My cousin is a student there, great school, I did my undergrad in San Antonio.

Trinity is only a Division III school I believe, and behind Rice it is supposed to be the next best school in Texas, academically. So if San Marcos State is D-1 it should be favored in any sporting contest. I understand that it has about 35,000 student. Trinity only has 2500.

And in 1968 the Browns first round draft choice was from Trinity: DL Marvin Upshaw (brother of Gene).

I see that Texas State must not be a hotbed of football talent. They have had only 1 player drafted by the NFL in the last decade. Defensive Tackle Fred Evans taken in 2006, in the 7th round. Though he must be OK, as, for a 7th rounder, he is still playing for the Vikings going into his 7th season.

Trinity has had a couple of alum make the Pro Bowl at least. Henry Schmidt and Pete Cole, Though Upshaw had the longest career, he never made a Pro Bowl.

I do see that our old friend Spergon Wynn, famous for being the QB taken in the draft just ahead of Tom Brady went to Texas St.
