Here is today's trivia question, a two parter:

    A. Which First Round of the draft is the greatest in history, i.e. from which Year's first round were the most Hall of Fame players selected.

    B. Which was the greatest overall draft class, i.e. from which year's draft, all rounds, were the most HOF players selected.

(Hint, the answers are not the same year.)

(On this date in history: A wedding and a funeral: 1614 Pocahontas was married to John Rolfe...NOT John Smith. 1976: Howard Hughes dies)

Excuse me, but I've seen the movie. I don't think Disney would lie to us. Just sayin.

A is correct, but not B.

You do realize do you not that it is probable that no one drafted in 2011 is yet eligible for the Hall of Fame?

Oh, OK, I guess I missed it. Sorry. Perhaps we need a "sarcasm" emoticon.

unless one of these will do.

1983 had 6 players make the Hall of Fame that were taken in the first round that year:

John Elway, Dan Marino, Jim Kelly, Eric Dickerson, Darrel Green, and Bruce Matthews. (but in all the rest of the draft only 1 HOFer so far: Richard Dent, 8th round pick)

                B. Which was the greatest overall draft class, i.e. from which year's draft, all rounds, were the most HOF players selected.

(Hint, the answers are not the same year.)

But, the draft Class with the most Hall of Famers from all rounds was:

1964: Bob Brown, Carl Eller, Charley Taylor, Paul Warfield, Mel Renfro, Paul Krause, Dave Wilcox, Bob Hayes, Leroy Kelley, Roger Staubach

That is awesome that we got Kelly and Warfield out of the same draft.

We got Matthews and Newsome out of the same draft as well.

Note: from the origination of the draft in 1936 until 1990 (post '90 too soon to judge), only these draft classes have had Zero -0- members make the HOF:

1943...from which there do not appear to be any candidates. This was the height of the war and most able bodied men were in the service, so this is perhaps no surprise.

1986 the most likely candidates for future inclusion are Charles Haley, who has been a finalist several times, and Pat Swilling.

The Cowboys and the Vikings did OK too. Dallas got Staubach, Renfro and Hayes. Minnesota got Eller and Krause.
