Hey guys, first post here since i got frustrated with just ranting to friends. Remember the last time we got to the playoffs? We had previously drafted a serviceable qb (derek anderson), a big target wr (braylon edwards), and a phenomenal athlete with tremendous hands at TE(Winslow). we eventually rode these guys to the playoffs.

So why, are we fine drafting zero playmakers at wr/te. and then drafting a servicable qb(weeden), who is also eligible for social security soon, in the first round with no one to throw to? Cribbs is a great playmaker but he isnt the big target or the blazing deep threat that could really open up the run game. other than cribbs i have zero faith in anyone else to either get open AND catch the ball.

Seems like we're replacing a broke-down oxe(hillis), with a fresh oxe(t-rich) to pull our offensive cart. If this is the case i just hope richardson can stay healthy, for his sake and ours.

You sir,are correct. DA was a 6th round draft choice of Baltimore. Butch Davis got the browns into a wild card birth to the playoffs in 03-04 I believe it was...

Butch David Drafted Winslow. He was then injured in the motorcycle accident. Savage drafted Edwards. Da was a 6th round pick from Baltimore that Savage took off their practice squad. Savage had a hand in drafting DA since he came from the front office of Baltimore. In 2007 it was more a perfect storm and a weak schedule than actual talent on the team.

Holmgren seems to think that Weeden will make the WR's better. Plus Weeden will also have a top notch RT and Trent Richardson (Adrian Peterson 2.0). Something McCoy did not have.

Also take into consideration it takes longer for a QB to develop than a WR. I am willing to bet that next year we will take WR in round 1 and spend significant money in FA. Next year will be year 4 in the Holmgren plan annd that is when he said he expected us to be much much better.

He also said this year will be a big improvement with 2 years learning the WCO.

But, Weeden will be in his first year learning the WCO. And H&H have said they are not going to spend significant money in FA, so I think you can forget that.

Next year may be Year 4 in the Holmgren plan, yet every year seems to be a reset. Reset A...dumping Mangini, Reset B....going with Weeden at QB and Childress at OC. Reset C..? overhauling WR corps? That has been done except perhaps for one slot.

              1. We didn't make the playoffs that season- we were 10-6 and watched Jim Sorgi flush our playoff hopes down the drain that Sunday Night. I bought a Colts shirt and its the first (and last time) I wear another teams logo.

              2. DA and Weeden have very similar physical abilities. Although watch some tape of Weeden- he has better touch. In fact we praise the guy for his cannon, but man he can place that back shoulder comeback and loft a fade in the endzone. What I like better about Weeden is his perspective (playing pro baseball failing at it getting back up and working to become a great QB) and he wins games against other greats like (Luck, Griffin and Tannehill). DA had very little in the intangible department. So between the ears I give the nod to Weeden. Advantage now.

              3. We don't have a Braylon Edwards when he was actually good. We have two guys that together are pretty close (Cribbs and Little). We forget for each big play Edwards made he had one or two key drops. EVEN.

              4. We don't have a Winslow but we have two guys the together are pretty close (Watson, Moore). Winslow was a gamer. Slight advantage then.

              5. Hillis is not Richardson. This is where you completely lost me. Richardson can beat you to edge, make a defender miss and stiff arm or run over a tackler if need be. Hillis didn't spread the field- by the way he is in a perfect spot sharing carries with a guy like Charles WHO CAN spread the field. Richardson is going to open up the defense more so than any other guy in a Browns uniform that i can remember. Now you have OLB that are cautious off the flats and biting on playactions and now we have a guy that can carry and catch the ball 30 times a game. You should be excited. Clear advantage now.

I still think it is a problem when teams in the NFL give less than their full effort...especially when the fate of other teams are on the line that are reliant on another team giving their best effort. Sure, the common response is: "take care of your own business and don't rely on anyone else". Sure, the Browns could have beaten the Bengals and handled their own business, but they didn't. But because they didn't is that any reason for the Colts to lie down like dogs?

Yes, always the argument: Big, tall strong armed QB vs. shorter, more accurate, gutsier QB. It goes back to the days of Phipps and Sipe.

                3. We don't have a Braylon Edwards when he was actually good. We have two guys that together are pretty close (Cribbs and Little). We forget for each big play Edwards made he had one or two key drops. EVEN.

If Winslow hadn't been A. stupid and B. a dickhead he would have been the second best TE this team ever had.

Well, I CAN remember a couple....names of Brown and Kelley. But then you probably have less memory than I. (i.e. fewer years to collect those memories)

Ah yes, the great Braylon-Kellen playoff era.

A tight end with no knees and a wide receiver with no hands.

Oxe? I'm no grammar nazi, but how do you spell a two-letter word wrong? Twice ... in the same sentence?
