What Happened Between Jim Brown And The Browns?

The Browns Board

  • Wow, that's a shame. Time to move on then...

Is our front office doing a good job in your opinion?

  • Since we reformed in 1999 our front office has been doing jack shit. It wasn't until Holmgren and Heckert came in, in my opinion at least, in late 2009 and early 2010 that the Browns started to show signs of life. We haven't had success on the field yet, but all of the players we have now that show any signs of being great players and having long, successful careers were brought in via draft or free agency through Heckert and Holmgren. So, as of now, I'd say our front office is doing alright, but it's certainly going to have to translate into some wins on the football field.

  • The Browns quit paying him.

  • Jim Brown is a bitter racist hatin ass old douche, and the browns got tired of paying him for nothing. He is a legend but the things he says have been doing his image no favors for a while.

I don't know if you're trying to say he hates racism or he hates ass.

  • Both as long as its white people

  • The not so cool thing about your profile pic is that it looks like a NAMBLA poster.

But nobody can detract from his place in our hearts as Browns fans. Even Barry Sander's Father called JB the Greatest.

Barry Sanders Dad also placed himself as the second or third best running back of all time. Not to take away from JB but that might not be the greatest example.

  • so...the third best RB ever called JB the greatest....and thats not a good example? what would be then...some scrub that couldn't make a team thats in sports broadcasting now?

No Barry Sanders father called HIMSELF the 2nd or 3rd rb of all time.

  • ah...my bad. mis-read it....twice. 😆

Jim is a lot of things, but racist he isn't. He's been all over people of his race that they need to get with the program.

My bad. Maybe its just because he seems racist when he brings up race a lot as in his letter to holmgren.

Ok, so he's a bitter old hater and douche.

  • Doing research, I see that Jim Brown was a phenomenom!!! Being new to the game, I just need some clarity on what went down.

Also, what's the story with the front office and owner? Are we under a mis-managed franchise?

Holmgren decided he was a dstraction, now they a pissing contest, the proven legend against almighty Holmgren, that simple

  • Nah, he's a doucher. I don't think you get a pass because you were good at football.

With all due respect, I can honestly say I have more insight on you regarding Brown since during his career, my Dad and I met and spoke with him on countless occasions. We saw and spoke to him regularly after practice at Hiram and, often times after home games, three times after away games at Detroit, Pittsburg and St Louis.

The cool thing about my profile picture is that it was taken in the summer of 1962 but signed by Jim some 20_ years later during Jim Brown day at the HOF. My Dad, always a JB fan, then in his 70s and a bit hobbled by Arthritis, took the 8 x 10 photo taken years back, to have Jim sign it. My Dad approached Jim very humbly and said, " Jim, I know you're busy and I know you don't remember me...." The Great JB stopped my Dad dead in his tracks and said.... "I remember you Charley, how's your son Tommy"

Now, admitedely, my Dad, laid off form the Steel Mills in 62 - 63 took me to see the Browns practice a hell of a lot, so, in those days, with things being simpler, it was easier to see a player face-to-face than it was today.

Still, it meant the world to my dad that his hero knew and remembered both of us by name.

JB is not a racist. He surely wouldn't have hugged me and gone out of his way like he did. I was also forunate enough to meet, on multiple occasions that great Steeler announcer Myron Cope. Cope loed JB and consulted him and edited Jims book, "Off my chest".

JB didn't hate whites. He hated the world he grew up in, in which blacks had different washrooms, fountains, and all the other bullshit that remains shameful in America. It's better now, for sure. But Brown hated that there was so little black representation in the NFL teams FO and owners table.

I think at time JB resented being black.

Some of his positions explaining poor black behavior as the fault of whites, was off putting and bizarre. His support of thugs at times is also weird. Oddly, he earmaked OJ Simpson as violent and as a time bomb way back in the middle of Simpson's career.

Whatever it was, Brown had a killer's rage bottled up inside him on Game Day. Sometimes I guess he didn't get it all out of his system.

His real life image, with violence against women, hatefdul comments and goofy behavior is for sure tarnished.

But nobody can detract from his place in our hearts as Browns fans. Even Barry Sander's Father called JB the Greatest.

For sure it is sad to see what he has become. JB, that is.

Great post and the only thing sad in the limelight of the greatest runner to ever play football is the total search everyday to discredit him especially being an intelligent man speaking his piece, but not singing cum by yah to the America is brainwashed to sing

You obviously have no clue about spelling or punctuation. Forgive me if I don't heed your criticisms.

again as rich4eagle has said....great post.

i wish i had a father who was into sports and had taught me the tradition that was only an hour east of us in cleveland.

i just spent a day looking at hundreds of photos of browns' lore. besides the otto grahams and the grozas were a couple of african americans during an embarrassing part of american history let alone history itself.

and most of those photos were of the great football player jim brown.

it's shameful that people of our age in those days felt any type of hate towards fellow americans who gave their lives for this country, yet we still wouldn't let them drink from the same water fountain or piss in the same bathrooms.

to call a guy who grew up and lived through all that shit a racist is wrong. pissed off? yes.

i don't agree with everything this guy did off the field...there's no way any right minded person would. but this guy inspired change. he went into the ghettos and recruited leaders to help the down-troddened (sp?).

hell, being so disconnected with the history of the browns i was surprised to hear his name mentioned in a famous richard pryor standup movie. pryor mentioned how he was so fucked up on crack for weeks upon months upon years that jim brown showed up at his door and literally took the pipe out of his mouth. sadly some people don't listen. but he had made an impression on him so much that he tried to change his life.

he did a lot to help 'his' people when nobody else would. sure he could be a brazen asshole but when he was THE ultimate brown then, let's not lynch him now.

  • i love all the old-timer stories guys....

    mad respect!
