Help With Identifying A Old Browns Photo
-
don't know about the dating and info of the original pic but obviously it was blown up into 2 large prints and just taped together and hung up above some (kitchen??) doors. in order for you to reproduce that you'd have to get a much better picture from your camera and do a lot of photoshop work or find a copy of the original somewhere.
you didn't ask the owner of the bar?

Where's Gipper... Photo trivia edition!
Been on vacation. Someone identified it as a picture with Marion Motley wearing #76.....so it must be very early, because #76 is a Browns retired number....for Lou Groza (and that ain't Groza wearing it). I would thing that it is in fact in the AAFC days.

also it's an impromptu celebration shot which might make it harder to track down. i can't tell if it's outside or inside because some guys are in full dress and others aren't.
the easiest way to find out is call the owner of the bar. i would think he would at least know who gave him the prints and go from there.
after digging through this awesome archive (you history guys will go nuts. not only do they have cleveland archived out the ass they've got pics of sandusky/hometown which i never knew existed. i'm sure people will find things that will bring back memories. like i didn't know that the founder of the cleveland browns was a guy named art mcbride and his claim to fame was he owned cab companies and his brother went on trial in some sort of government scandal....)

i dug through pages and pages of browns stuff and couldn't find that one pic which leads me to believe it might have been taken by another player or a fan.
hell i might call the friggin bar. now i want to know.
here's a cool shot of groza signing an autograph. what's really awesome is that jersey he's wearing. that's something they never wore in a game is it?

Great Thread, I am back! The biggest thing I remember about "Lou the Toe" was making the tackle on kickoffs at the twenty nstead of waving as they run by now at the fifty. I will take another look at the pics but 76 sure looks like Motley and my memory of is great plays says he wore 76, so when they joined the NFL they had to conform to number rules. Otto was 60 in the AAFL and Motley was 76 so they all changed numbers in 1950. My deductions says the pic was in the forties after winning the AAFL again
BTW....................AAFL = All American Football League which lasted four years and one team won the league all four years

Mickey McBride was the original owner of the Browns before selling to Modell. He did run a Taxi company and other real estate ventures. In fact, I think he at one time was the owner of the Old Arcade downtown.
And here was another deal: Because the team could only have so many people on a roster, McBride gave jobs driving taxis to football players who were not quite good enough to make the team, but whom he was interested in keeping available in case one of the roster players got injured or didn't work out. Thus was born "The Taxi Squad", which in essence is still around today with the "practice squad" or whatever it is called. The only difference is now those guys get paid for being on that squad and don't have to drive a cab.

i'm looking at these two pics and see some of the same things in them:
#1. paul brown's garb. #'s 2 and 3: these 2 guys one with a bare chest and one with a white tee on.

1949 championship winners.
only thing that bothers me is i don't know if paul brown wore the same suit every game. the others are no one is wearing identifying #'s that you can see match the first and the second photo.
the first photo (the original from the OP)looks really impromptu. i mean you got the midget in there and people are acting like fools. that's something that would not be staged or posed. the second is more like an official press photo.

people were just as 'nasty' back then as they are now.
yeah, i don't what she's staring at....the football or his schwom.

Very racist post. How do you know that Groza wasn't ever black? Perhaps after he was successful he became white?
It isn't that uncommon. I think Groza was born black, his given name was Lutavius Groza, and he shortened it for teh Entertainment business.
Him and Steve Martin.
