Afcn Position Rankings

The Browns Board

  • I have perused a couple of websites to obtain the proposed 2012 depth charts of each team in the AFCN. I will list the starters at each position on a team. Tell us who you think is the top player at each position in the AFCN or give some kind of order. There is some variation because the Browns and Bengals run the 4-3 while the Ravens and Steelers run the 3-4. The order I will go in will be Steelers/Browns/Ravens/Bengals:

    QBs: Roethlisberger, Weeden, Flacco, Dalton

FBs: David Johnson, Owen Marecic, Vonta Leach, Chris Pressly

RBs: Isaac Redman, Trent Richardson, Ray Rice, Ben Jarvis Green-Ellis

WR1s: Mike Wallace, Greg Little, Anquan Boldin, AJ Green

WR2s: Antonio Brown, Mohammed Massaquoi, Torrey Smith, Armon Binns

LTs: Mike Adams, Joe Thomas, Bryant McKinnie, Andrew Whitworth

LGs: Willie Colon, Jason Pinkston, Jah Reid, Travelle Wharton

Cs: Maurkice Pouncey, Alex Mack, Matt Birk, Kyle Cook

RGs: David DeCastro, Shawn Lauvao, Marshall Yanda, Kevin Zeitler

RTs: Marcus Gilbert, Mitchell Schwartz, Michael Oher, Andre Smith

TEs: Heath Miller, Ben Watson, E. Dickson, Jermaine Gresham

    Defense:

LDE Ziggy Hood, Jabaal Sheard, Pernell McPhee, Robert Geathers

NT/DTs Casey Hampton, S. Paxson, Terrence Cody, Domato Peko, Ahtyba Rubin, Geno Atkins,

RDE: Brent Keisel, Frostee Rucker, Haloti Ngata, Michael Johnson

LOLB: Lamar Woodley, Scott Fujita, Courtney Upshaw, Manny Lawson

MLBs: Larry Foote, Lawrence Timmons, DQwell Jackson, Ray Lewis, Jameel McClain, Rey Maualaga

ROLBs: James Harrison, Chris Gocong, Paul Kruger, Thomas Howard

LCB: K. Lewis, Joe Haden, Lardarius Wells, Nate Clements

SS: Troy Polamalu, TJ Ward, Bernard Pollard, Taylor Mays

FS: Ryan Clark, Usama Young, Ed Reed, Reggie Nelson

RCB: Ike Taylor, Sheldon Brown, Jimmy Smith, Leon Hall

Give whatever opinion you may have concerning the rankings of these, best to worst or whatever.

  • I'll make the most realistic roster possible, taking both experience and potential into consideration. I'll do a 34 defense since I think more talent is available for that scheme, but I'll plug 43 guys in where I see fit. Here it goes.

    QB: Ben, Dalton, Flacco

RB: Rice, Redman (short yardage - probably take a healthy Mendenhal over him), Richardson (can't put him higher ONLY becasue he's yet to see a snap)

FB. Leach, Johnson (also would be back-up TE)

    #1 WR: Wallace

    #2 WR: Green

    #3 Slot: Brown

    Back-up WR: Boldin, Little

LT: Thomas, Whitworth (will start at RT- I make the rules because it's my roster so I'm allowed to do this)

LG: Colon (can also back-up RT), Zeitler (probably would end up being moved to starter)

    😄 Pouncey, Mack

    RG: Yanda, DeCastro

    RT: Whitworth, Oher, Colon

TE: Miller, Gresham, Dickson, David Johnson

    Again, this a 34 defense:

    LDE: Ngata, Hood

    NT: Cody, Atkins

    RDE: Keisel, Peko

    LOLB: Woodley, Upshaw

    ILB: Lewis, Timmons, McClain, Jackson

ROLB: Harrison, Kruger (I swear he moved to DE?)

    LCB: Haden

    RCB: Taylor

Nickel: Wells, Sheldon Brown, Jimmy Smith

    SS: Troy, Ward

    FS: Reed, Clark

Who said anything about creating a roster? I simply asked that you rank the starting players on each team. It is not clear to me that you have done that.

    QB: Ben, Dalton, Flacco

I will give my own rankings. Admittedly, some of this may just be perception as I may not be fully aware of the everyone on this list, so any selection is arguable. Red is top player, blue is bottom.

    QBs: Roethlisberger, Weeden, Flacco, Dalton

Can't rank a QB who hasn't taken a snap over anyone else.

FBs: David Johnson, Owen Marecic, Vonta Leach, Chris Pressly

Marecic may be replaced by Smelley.

RBs: Isaac Redman, Trent Richardson, Ray Rice, Ben Jarvis Green-Ellis

WR1s: Mike Wallace, Greg Little, Anquan Boldin, AJ Green

WR2s: Antonio Brown, Mohammed Massaquoi, Torrey Smith, Armon Binns

LTs: Mike Adams, Joe Thomas, Bryant McKinnie, Andrew Whitworth

LGs: Willie Colon, Jason Pinkston, Jah Reid, Travelle Wharton Pass, don't know enough

Cs: Maurkice Pouncey, Alex Mack, Matt Birk, Kyle Cook

RGs: David DeCastro, Shawn Lauvao, Marshall Yanda, Kevin Zeitler

RTs: Marcus Gilbert, Mitchell Schwartz, Michael Oher, Andre Smith

TEs: Heath Miller, Ben Watson, E. Dickson, Jermaine Gresham

    Defense:

LDE Ziggy Hood, Jabaal Sheard, Pernell McPhee, Robert Geathers

NT/DTs Casey Hampton, S. Paxson, Terrence Cody, Domato Peko, Ahtyba Rubin, Geno Atkins,

Actually Ngata should be on this list at #1. The Steelers are looking to replace Hampton. I have doubts that Paxson will actually start the season.

RDE: Brent Keisel, Frostee Rucker, Haloti Ngata, Michael Johnson

If Ngata stays here, he gets the nod.

LOLB: Lamar Woodley, Scott Fujita, Courtney Upshaw, Manny Lawson

Browns should be looking to replace Fujita

MLBs: Larry Foote, Lawrence Timmons, DQwell Jackson, Ray Lewis, Jameel McClain, Rey Maualaga

ROLBs: James Harrison, Chris Gocong, Paul Kruger, Thomas Howard

LCB: K. Lewis, Joe Haden, Lardarius Wells, Nate Clements

SS: Troy Polamalu, TJ Ward, Bernard Pollard, Taylor Mays

TP for now. Not sure if he will sustain however.

FS: Ryan Clark, Usama Young, Ed Reed, Reggie Nelson

Same here with Reed. There is some talk he may retire.

RCB: Ike Taylor, Sheldon Brown, Jimmy Smith, Leon Hall

Isn't Smith supposed to be the new shining star?

If I didn't pick a best or a worse it is because I didn't feel capable of telling who may have been the candidate.

Give whatever opinion you may have concerning the rankings of these, best to worst or whatever.

  • "Who said anything about creating a roster? I simply asked that you rank the starting players on each team. It is not clear to me that you have done that."

You didn't set up the strictest of rules and I figured making an actual roster seemed more creative than just picking the best of 4 possible players. This thread wasn't exactly taking off so I figured try to get something started.

    OK, whatever works for you.
