Romney's Veep List
-
I think there's a decent chance that Romney wins, despite being an thoroughly unlikeable candidate - The Supreme Court knocks down the ACA and the economy starts sliding backwards again and he's got a real shot. So, I'm hoping for the best pick for the country, someone who I wouldn't mind taking over should something happened to Romney. And he's never had a smoke or a drop of booze or even caffeine, so he'll probably live forever, and then for eternity on his own Mormon planet.
For me that's probably Christie. I think Jindal would be a good pick too.
You think knocking down the manate from the ACA send the economy into a tailspin?
If it's jindal I hope he brushes up on his public speaking, if you remember the opposition response.

No, no. I'm saying if Obamacare is knocked down and the economy starts sliding backwards again these will be two significant blows to the Obama campaign. The race is going to be tight and these things can make the difference, especially the economy.

Ah, my mistake.

I'm not sure what Pawlenty brings to the ticket either. It's always seemed like Romney's promised him something, though. I suspect we're talking more like a cabinet post.

So the revelation is that Rubio is in fact being vetted and seriously in consideration.
How did that report get f***** up?

I'd vote for Natalie Portman
Yea I'd also eat her Y

So we don't know which report is correct, but I'd guess the first one and that the Romney camp, not wanting to embarrass Rubio or upset his supporters, made the statement that he is being vetted.
There's no way to tell, but when reporters like Jonathan Karl are talking to the people in the campaign and they're being told he's not on the list, and they run with that story, and then the Romney camp says, "No, he is on the list!" I'm guessing the reporter probably had it right. But who knows?
-
Here's the original report:
"But knowledgeable Republican sources tell me that Rubio is not being vetted by Mitt Romney’s vice presidential search team. He has not been asked to complete any questionnaires or been asked to turn over any financial documents typically required of potential vice presidential candidates.
Although it is possible that Rubio may yet be asked to go through the vetting process, it has been nearly two months since Romney named his long-time aide Beth Myers to run his vice presidential search. The fact that Rubio has not been asked to turn over any documents by now is a strong indication that he is not on Romney’s short list of potential running mates."
...If you read between the lines, that sounds like Karl probably talked to people close to Rubio, and they confirmed that he hasn't had to do any preliminary reviews or to pool his financial documents. Those are the first steps in any vetting process. For Romney to then say, "Yes, we are vetting him" doesn't tell you much, because that can mean anything from nothing to thinking about him and discussing him to you're actually vetting him. If someone else reported that Rubio had to turn over his documents to be vetted by Romney's lawyers, then you might have something.
So, my guess is that Romney doesn't want to embarrass Rubio. The other thing you might read into this is that Rubio's people are upset about him being out front campaigning for Romney, and yet the vetting process hasn't begun.

Well, I do respect Rubio a ton - but I'd rather him stay in the Senate for now.
I can see Portman - but I'd rather him be more like Paul Ryan.
I can really see Paul Ryan.
But my choice is a guy who has the experience and the nads to help Romney get our budget balanced,
and get America working again, and stop the racial hostility and the hostility vs the Constitution from day 1. He's
Daniel Whitney. We'll see - but he is excellent, flies under the radar, and could really be the "guy".
-
Yes, if there's one thing the Republicans on this board won't stand for anymore it's racial hostility.

You don't like Daniel Whitney, Heck?
Why is that ?

-
I don't know who that is, old man.
-
Well, he isn't well known to be any kind of VP possibility.
But I've heard good things from certain folks that he could be the one.
That's just what I think - who knows?
-
-
As far as rubio gos I don't think it makes much sense that he'd be excluded from the short list.
But let's say that it's true that the vetting process just hasn't gotten rolling yet.
In that case I kind of wonder what the point of the story is besides just an attempt to make the romney campaign look bad.
By the way M S N B C is all over the christie/mafia link!

ROF,LMAO !!!!

"It's a beautiful morning.....ah...ah... I think I'll go outside...for a while....and smiiiiiiiiile...."
-
Tupa, take your pick here, too. I know you were a Daniels guy, but he's out.
I've got a friend who thinks it's going to be an outside the box choice from the business community, like former FedEx CEO Fred Smith. I don't know if I see that, but I wouldn't discount it. some others think Lynne Cheney is a dark horse. I wouldn't think he'd want to go there either.
I still think it's Christie.
-
I dont think Rubio or Ryan were ever under serious consideration - they are just there to appease certain groups. Somehow the fact that Ron Paul has set himself up to have a heavy hand in the VEEPstakes at the convention has gotten glossed over. Maybe because he doesnt plan to do anything but solicit some promises from the process, but I think it's an interesting angle nonetheless. I would personally not choose Christie - he's a big fat moderate republican Biden, and none of those factors help at all. I do think Portman is in the lead, but I wouldn't take him against the field at this point. I'd be interested if he found someone with a strong foreign policy POV (Condi?), but doubt that issue is important enough to be a deciding factor. I'd be happy with find with Portman or Jindal. I'd be endlessly entertained by Rand Paul.
-
Completely pulled out of my ass, if I had to wager I'd say it's:
- Christie
- Portman
- Jindal
In that order. Here's the case for Christie: he's the attack dog that can get people excited about the ticket. He can bring Palin's snark that got them so fired up at the convention without the rest of the Palin baggage/idiocy. He's taken on the unions. He's not afraid to speak his mind. He's the opposite of everything people hate about Romney.
I'd do it.
Portman and Jindal are serious people and I'd be happy to see them on the ticket for the country's sake. But they don't bring any personality whatsoever. Portman doesn't even seem to help in Ohio, according to the polling. Though it could be so tight that he could bring you a 1% shift and that's enough to win you the state.
I'm sure Mitt has it all laid out in a spreadsheet.
