What kind of parent makes a handgun easily accessible to a bunch of unsupervised kids less than 14 years old?

You really think that robber was going to shoot 4 children?
Well, even though stuff like that never ever happens, at least we won't have to find out at least in this 1 situation.

A smart one. Many gun enthusiasts teach their children young, gun safety. They understand the importance, just like anything else. While living in Wisconsin at 12 years old, I had access to a .22 and a shotgun. Our house was frequented by black bears, although I never had to use one, my step father did a couple times and had to shoot to scare the bear away, yes trying to break in. Before even shooting we sat and talked about safety.

I'm just very skeptical about entrusting a child that young with a gun. Then again, maybe I'm biased because I grew up with an idiot that loaded a shotgun then pointed it at us as a joke.

Yea I would be biased too. It is very important for them to learn at a young age.

When we grew up, you knew not to touch dads guns or you would get your ass kicked. Plus he showed all of us how to use them safely. This was before states passed laws that you have to buy a gun safe.

It's important, if you're going to have guns around, to teach a child responsibility. However giving them free access to the firearms unsupervised is another matter.

You really think that robber was going to shoot 4 children?
Well we know for sure 'that' robber won't kill 'those' 4 kids.
-
Good for that kid.
And nobody is suggesting that Americans shouldn't be allowed to own guns and keep them in their homes and use them to protect themselves. Only cranks think that.

I don't blame him with your attitude.

I wouldnt trust you to train an ape to peel bananas, much less train a child to use a firearm.

hardy har har.
Truth is, I have. I've taught several friends' and a neighbor's kids gun safety. They were all at least ten yrs old.
I've gotten great compliments from the parents. Those kids even carried their toy guns differently, like a real one.
I told em that's good practice. Like when we teach them to ride a 4 wheeler.
Safety safety, common sense, safety, proper handling, forget peer pressure to take dangerous chances.
It only takes one mistake to be fatal, or permanent injury and permanent heartache.
A couple are now eighteen, and one was out riding 4 wheelers down southern ohio way.
One of the kids in the group got badly injured by not opting to ride smart. He ended up with a broken shoulder, and
hip, knee and back damage. At least he was only one of two who were wearing helmets. The guy I taught convinced him to wear his helmet,
as he was wearing his..
The kid I taught, refused to take the dangerous jump. I'm proud of him.
