Here is a set of trivia about mainstream sports that are generally popular outside the Olympics but about performances in those sports in the Olympics:

    1. Who won the Gold Medal in Men's Soccer in the 2008 games?

    Women's soccer:

    2. When is the last time the USA Men's soccer team won a medal (of any kind) in the Olympics?

    3. In all the years that Basketball has been played in the Olympics, the USA Men have medaled every year but one. In what year did the USA Men's hoops not win an Olympic Medal?

    4. The USA Women's Basketball team has won the Gold Medal for 3 Olympics running by beating the same team in the Gold Medal game all three years. Who is that opponent?

    5. "American Football" was a demonstration sport in the Olympics in one year only: The 1932 Games in LA. Only 1 game was played consisting of All star teams from 3 western colleges playing an all star team from 3 eastern colleges. Name these 6 colleges.

    6. Golf is returning as an official Olympic sport in 2016 for the first time since the early 20th century. Only 3 countries have ever won medals in Olympic Golf. Name the three countries.

    7. Baseball (men's) was played as an official Olympic Sport from 1992 to 2008 (5 times).

Name the 3 nations that won the Gold Medal in Baseball in those years.

    8. Baseball (and softball) however were removed from the Games beginning in 2012. Why?

(no real wrong or right answer....just theories).

    9. In Men's Ice Hockey, Canada has won 8 Gold Medals over the years, the Soviet Union/Unified team also won 8, and the USA won 2 gold medals. Only two other nations have won the Gold in history. Which two?

    10. In Men's and Women's Ice Hockey there are currently two significant "rivalries". The first is the USA vs. Canada. Since 2002 these two nations have squared off 4 times in the Gold Medal game (combined men and women). What is the next best rivalry? Hint: it does not involve either the US or Canada.

    11. How many Men's Boxing medals did the USA win in the 2008 games?

    12. Tennis was revived as an Olympic Sport in 1988 (It had been an Olympic sport from 1896-1924, then terminated). Since 1988 what player, male or female, has won the most Gold Medals?

Bonus: Current Hot Topic: When the London Games start in a couple of weeks the Olympic Tennis tournament will be played at the All England Club where the Wimbledon tournament is currently being contested. What color will the uniforms of the tennis players in the Olympics be?.

I don't care about the unis- what color will the grass be? Really, after 2 weeks of Wimbledon- you're playing on dirt, not grass. Call out the Olympic re-sodding team.

The grass will be completely regrown in time for the Olympics. They tested it after the tournament last year and found out that they could have it done in less than 2 weeks from the end of Wimbledon.

    Women's soccer: USA

    2. When is the last time the USA Men's soccer team won a medal (of any kind) in the Olympics?

In 1904 the US won I believe a silver medal.....but only 3 countries competed so big deal

    3. In all the years that Basketball has been played in the Olympics, the USA Men have medaled every year but one. In what year did the USA Men's hoops not win an Olympic Medal?

1980, the Boycott year. You can't medal if you don't compete.

    4. The USA Women's Basketball team has won the Gold Medal for 3 Olympics running by beating the same team in the Gold Medal game all three years. Who is that opponent?

    The Australians

    Cuba, USA, South Korea

    8. Baseball (and softball) however were removed from the Games beginning in 2012. Why?

See following post...but Z was pretty much on the mark.

    9. In Men's Ice Hockey, Canada has won 8 Gold Medals over the years, the Soviet Union/Unified team also won 8, and the USA won 2 gold medals. Only two other nations have won the Gold in history. Which two?

Sweden has won two and the Czech Republic One.

It is Sweden vs. Finland. These teams have met a few times in medal round games, including for the Men's Gold one year.

FYI, since the demise of the USSR which was after 1988, the medal count (G,S&😎 in hockey for both men and women is: Canada 8, USA 6, Finland 6, Sweden 4, Czech 3, Russia 2

    11. How many Men's Boxing medals did the USA win in the 2008 games?

They did manage to win a single Bronze medal by heavyweight Deontay Wilder.

Bonus: Current Hot Topic: When the London Games start in a couple of weeks the Olympic Tennis tournament will be played at the All England Club where the Wimbledon tournament is currently being contested. What color will the uniforms of the tennis players in the Olympics be?.

Essentially the players will be able to wear whatever color they want, which may include national uniform colors.

Compare this to the Wimbledon Tournament just concluded where all participants MUST wear predominantly white...even at practice. One player came out in a yellow T-shirt for her warmups and was told to change into white.

On the baseball, the Olympics removed baseball allegedly because MLB refused to put their season on hiatus for the Olympics to allow the best players in the world to play. Since they decided to fuck baseball, they also voted softball for the women out as well....even though the women would have agreed to put whatever season on hold for the Olympics.

However, to my view, it goes beyond that. The "MLB won't go on hold for us" is just an excuse.

Zombo is right: too many fags. Not necessarily soccer fags, but Eurofags. The other bone of contention besides the players was the fact that the IOC granted Europe as many "automatic bid" slots to the Olympic tournament as they did The Americas and Asia. They gave Europe 2 guaranteed slots, the Americas 2 and Asia two, even though the Eurofags don't play much baseball. Outstanding teams from Latin America and Asia were being left out of the tournament in favor of scrub Euro teams. Plus, the fact was, even given this bone, no Eurofag team was coming close to winning any kind of medal. The Cubans, Americans, Koreans, Japanese, Dominican, Venezuelan, Taiwan, Puerto Rican, Canadians etc. were taking home all the brass, and Eurofag didn't like it, so they eliminated it in favor of Golf and Rugby. Nothing wrong with Golf and Rugby....its just that, yes, these sports are big in Europe, so the Eurofags now think they can compete in these sports.

But just FYI....you know what the top countries in Rugby 7s are?: Fiji, New Zealand, Australia, (and the UK).
